Ha ha K-Win. A great analogy.

Personally, i feel like we're part of the furniture in div 4 now. But I always feel like we're not really accepted as an equal. We might be here, but we always have a financial advantage over most teams, so we're not really seen as struggling like some of the other clubs. Maybe we need to suffer a bit more to really get adopted? I actually love it here. I suppose arrogantly in the back of my mind I assume we'll be higher up long-term, so it doesn't seem terminal. No guarantee of that of course. If it wasn't for the fact that the scummers can laud it over us, i'd stay in the lower leagues forever. Terracing, 3pm kick off's, reasonable ticket pricing, and players that can actually point to the team they play for on a map.

Still think there's a chance we can put a run together, but absolutely no evidence to back that claim up.

Realistically we'll make the play-off's if our season's form continues. I wouldn't back us to win those - far too much negativity from the crowd for the players to relax and play their game.

As weeks go by, the pressure mounts, and Cook's leaving seems more a case of when, not if. I hope he stays, even into next season if we don't go up. He's built the foundations, let him finish the job. A new boss, with new players and we're back to square one again.

One thing's for sure. If we do go up, and a club comes knocking for Cook, he'll have zero loyalty for us anymore given the flak he's received.

I'm sure a return ticket to the Conference could be arranged, it may help with your feelings of not belonging and your struggle not being accepted.

I saw enough from our new signings on Saturday to say I think we will make top 7.

Losing Wyke is a massive blow but Jamie Proctor seems to be a very good replacement. Whether he'll get as many goals I don't know but he's made a decent start (barring the unfair sending off) and his all round game looks better than Wyke's.

Gary Liddle is also starting to show his class. I wasn't keen on him coming in at centre back but I'm starting to eat those words and with Mike Jones back from injury into the midfield we can probably afford to keep Liddle back.

I still think top 3 will prove to be a bit too much for us and I expect with our upcoming fixtures we'll be out of it within the next few weeks, but top 7 is definitely realistic. 2 weeks ago I wouldn't have said that.

You really think so? I mean that's a hell of a prediction but if you think we can, I might just go put money on it. I've been following your form guides keenly over the last couple of weeks and based on what you've said I expect the bookies will have us at 5000/1 outsiders. I mean, wow... Carlisle United qualifying for the playoffs from their current position, it's Roy of the Rovers stuff and certainly good news for anyone disappointed that Leicester aren't going to win the Premiership again this year that there will still be a miracle in the Football League come May.

I think we'll finish top three, Mike Jones returning from injury will be massive. It sounds like the new signings have settled quickly too, so hopefully they can have a positive impact in these upcoming games.

I'm looking forward to the February/March fixtures, home to Doncaster, Portsmouth, Cambridge and Luton, and away to Wycombe, Plymouth and Mansfield.

Well based on our form over the last 2 months we probably were outsiders. We've been horrendous, there's no dressing it up. We were being outplayed in just about every match, shipping goals or at very least conceding glorious chances left right and centre, scraping points against teams with 10 men.

It was looking very likely that we were going to drop like a stone if something wasn't done about it, the fact we'd gone from top to about 12 points adrift of Doncaster in such a short space of time illustrated what direction we were heading in. Thankfully Keith seems to have made some good signings (apart from a fucking left back) which in my opinion will be enough to secure us at least a playoff place.

If we're still third after these then yeah I reckon we'll finish top 3.

But that is a very big if.

From what other fans are saying on this forum it sounds like left backs just aren't out there... Plymouth fans felt they were weak in that position since Purrington left.

We've been playing a defensive midfielder at left back most of the season so I wouldn't worry too much about not having one

Well we miss Grainger's leadership and attacking more than his left-backing abilities though Gillesphey really is struggling in that position, I don't know how good your defensive midfielder is there but our centre back doesn't fit the mold at all.

I think it is safe now to categorically rule out Newport Notts County and Orient from this thread.

OK... they join Hartlepool who were ruled out in August.

Poor Hartlepool. :(

Ah come on Shoddy you're being a bit harsh on em there like. Their poor fans have had to put up with so much.

Bite? Bite at what? :dk:
I've said all along I don't think we'll make play offs and I'm happy with mid table.

You are a very strange guy. :err:

That's a very tough schedule mostly against teams in the mix. Do well and you will be in the top 3, play like you have and I suspect you'll be in a fight to stay in the top seven.

I've probably seen more of Carlisle over the last couple of months than most people and that ^^ is why I was worried we wouldn't even finish top 7. We've been playing like a team battling relegation not promotion and if that continues we'll finish about 10th. However against Orient(I know) on saturday, I saw some promising things from the new signings which makes me think we'll get stronger and gives me confidence that we'll finish in the playoffs

As I say I still think we'll drop out of top 3 simply because we're playing teams in good form in the coming weeks. The last months fixtures were our chance to nail that top 3 place but we've failed. But if by some miracle we're still third after this tough run of fixtures then I'd say there's a very good chance we will finish top 3.

We are when you consider that our best left back is playing right back (and his best position is in midfield) and if Sawyer gets crocked in a game we'd move our playmaker Carey there!

I think if Sawyer was injured then Sokolik or whatever he's called will go over to right back, Oscar back over to left back, and Songo'o back into centre back.

Basically hope he doesn't get injured else it's a whole load of shifting around to do of a defense that's been pretty steady recently!

Remind me - we did tell you that Sonny Bradley was useless and would ruin your defence didn't we?

Think we're at the stage where the next 4 games make a real big difference in our season.

3 home games against Hartlepool Accrington and Newport with a tough(ish) game at Grimsby - do well in these and it could be interesting

Hi, Carlisle fan here. :)

We're doing very nicely at the moment, you never really want to say too much about where you are, but things have gone according to plan and hopefully if we keep getting the results we've been getting for most of the season then we should be there or thereabouts by the end of the season.

Still having us to make top 7 (just), but I may have to reevaluate that prediction over the next few weeks.

Tough games coming up, the gap to 8th is narrowing.

I think we will make top 7, but I'm less confident now and wouldn't be surprised at all if 2-3 weeks down the line we're out of it.

Today was a big day for us.

Big test playing a really hyped up derby in front of a large crowd against the form side in England who have won the last 7 games in a row, and an apparently unbreachable defence that has only conceded 2 goals this year and we've absolutely smashed it 3-0.

Other teams around us dropping points and our new attacking signings look quality adding to a squad that was already in 2nd. Surely not even we can mess it up from here
