We're a joke off the pitch and that is now spreading to how we are on the pitch.

Now? We've been a joke on the pitch for the past 2 months. We've had the odd good game (e.g donny) but on the whole we've been shite since the end of December which has seen poor performance after poor performance with a few 3 and 4 goal hidings in there.

You're talking as if this is something new.

Extremely frustrating result for us having created enough chances to beat Morecambe three times over, but we simply cannot kill teams off at Fratton Park and then we get hit with the suckerpunch.

Still, a huge opportunity to jump into third (or make up massive ground on second) on Saturday. No excuses for not beating Crewe and then Plymouth play Carlisle so one of them has to drop points.

It is something new as before the Pompey result we looked like we were on the up again.

Last night almost a perfect night for us. Doncaster are gone now IMO.

The week of 11th March is now huge for us, we play Stevenage who are in an absolute roll at the moment, away to Carlisle then Exeter at home. All 3 huge games, at the end of that we could be in the automatic places or out of the playoffs entirely!

We really need to finally put together this winning run that we haven't managed all season.

Three draws would be very nice thank you :2thumb:

Looking like it could be a very tense end to the season at the promotion end. Big win for Doncaster to get back on track and they look unassailable now but for the rest of the teams in the mix - anything is possible.

I think we will blow it again this season and end up losing the playoffs. Think it will be a draw on Saturday

I can't see you finishing outside the top 3 because the chasing pack are too inconsistent, so you can afford a bit of a wobble and still go up, I think you will easily do it.

Looking more likely that 80 points will be enough for autos and 70 points for the play offs.

Had a tally up since we lost our unbeaten run against Newport. We've played 17 games in that time and gained 24 points, which works out at 1.4 points per game. Performing at that rate over a season would give 64 points. I've never seen a team finish in the bottom 6 with 64 points. Claiming that's our current level is absurd.

We were spoilt during the first 17 games, collecting more points than our performances deserved.

Most of the season we've been playing like a midtable team and now we're gaining points at a rate that's befitting with our performances over the season.

Cry's of saying that we're playing like a relegation threatened team are pure hyperbole.

1.4 points per game till the end of the season will see us with 75 points and probably just scraping a play-off place.

Funny that Plymouth is being mentioned as a tough game. Over the last 17 games they've also only collected 24 points. Saturday's game is essentially two midtable teams that have found themselves in 2nd and 3rd because of overachieving in the 1st third of the season.

I did one of those predictors where you put in all the results. It ended:

Donny 88
Argyle 82
Portsmouth 81 (+27)
----------------------------------
Luton 81 (+25)
Carlisle 81 (+14)
Exeter 78
Stevenage 75 (+13)
----------------------------------
Mansfield 75 (+11)

How close is that?! Not sure I could take it...

Why are you saying 17 games in reference to my comment about us playing like a bottom 6 team? I mentioned the year 2017 in relation to my bottom 6 form comment, which is 11 games. During that period we've picked up 12 points and shipped 21 goals. That is where I was getting the bottom 6 form from.

If you're going to attempt to rip my comments a new one and claim they are hyperbole, at least use the same time period.
Obviously with our start to the season if you go back far enough then our form isn't going to look that bad.

Ok greg I think we've heard enough of your gloomy comments on Carlisle for the time being.

Welcome to the forum... pure hyperbole is what we specialise in here.

Going to the last game of the season is exactly how I see it going too. Fortunately, we've got a few lower teams, so may be an opportunity to improve our GD which would help.

I'd settle for winning some games first!

All these draws have been very frustrating.

Apologies, but I meant to reply to your post on my Luton missing McGeehan comment, but completely forgot until just now. You do have a point but I don't see it that way. For example, a few weeks back Uche was on fire and yet I still wanted Barry Corr on the pitch as I believe that the lower league sides need their top 3 players to be playing all the time as they make things happen. Simple as.

But fair play to you for being honest with your opinion. It's all too easy to put the blame on Luton's inconsistent results of late on McGeehan's absence.

That's the point I was making. 6 games, 11 games, 17 games or 34 games. Any argument can be swung by picking and choosing a specific time scale.

Take it month by month; we've had 3 months of promotion form (Oct, Nov, Dec), 3 of Midtable form (Aug, Sept, Feb) and 1 of relegation (Jan).

Overall, looking at that, we should be sitting in the playoffs and counting ourselves lucky to still be in the automatics.

If we can make March or April a promotion form month then we might finish in the top 3. Continuing our Feb form till the seasons end will see us definitely in the playoffs.

Our next three games after today are Stevenage (home), Carlisle (away), Exeter (home). Doesn't get much bigger than that looking at the table...

Your positivity is to be admired, but you're setting yourself up for a huge disappointment.

You're in dreamland if you think we've got a hope in hell of finishing top 3.

And as for playoffs, I don't think we'll finish in the top 7. 8th, 9th or 10th is where we'll finish.

We'll see who is right come the end of the season.

Advantage Luton. We were absolute dire today, like really really bad. Scuffle's when Crewe scored and loud boos at the end. We could have played for another hour and we never would have scored.

No way we're making top 7.

We've been in relegation form for the past 12 matches and if anything we only look like getting worse. I can't see our form changing at all.

Now we're not even scoring goals which is the one thing you couldn't criticise us off, but 3 blanks in a row coupled with the fact we cannot ever keep a clean sheet is a recipe for an absolute capitulation between now and the end of the season.

Carlisle United will NOT finish in the top 7.

I suspect many more Carlisle fans will be starting to agree with this.
