Should be routine from here on in - Cook leading from the front.

Anderson really stepped up to the plate today, a pitch with nothing in it, and he produced miracles given the circumstances.

Should be a formality from here.

Trott's place in the team is really looking fragile now. Michael Vaughan summed up the situation well earlier. It was worth giving him a shot at the top of the order; him opening had the potential to put to bed some long term concerns, but it just hasn't panned out that way.

For what it's worth, I'm still not sure there's as big a difference between opening and batting three as some would have you believe, but Trott hasn't looked at all comfortable in these four innings. Time to look at other options.

Ballance 3rd fastest to 1000 test runs :brill:

As for opening compared to #3, just personally used to find #3 harder. Opening I could dictate the run rate, where as at 3 I found it hard to react when coming in, better at it now though.

9 wicket win - superb last day here.

Top marks to Cook, for captaincy and performance.

Big respect to Jimmy - should be granted the Man of the Match award.

First away Test win since December 2012 - onwards and upwards.

Thinking about it Plunkett for Jordan maybe as well, or maybe when one more chance then Plunkett when we get back to England.

I'd like to see hales , tymal mills , Craig Overton , lees and Scott borthwick brought into the england fold with an eye to the future . For the coming summer I would love to see rashid , Taylor , lythe and hopefully kp in the squad . ( I'm pretty sure kp ain't happening)

Taylor needs to be back in the squad but doubt he'll get a call up until Bell retires from internationals. Hales is a must in any limited overs team and if his 4 day form keeps up can put pressure on for a test place. Mills... he's quick but... something lacking atm. Overton few years yet, lees and Borthwick definitely worth keeping an eye on, but Rashid is ahead of Borthwick and can't even make the team atm.

KP... Just a massive no for me in all respects, will have been covered plenty of times but no.

With regards to kp , there are so many reasons not to pick him but there is an even bigger reason to pick him , the Aussies are scared to death of him . It's not for the long term but it would shit them up a bit.

Would they be though? I think they'd be happy knowing a player that causes unrest in the opposition dressing room is back.

I know what your saying and your probably right . Its probably time to move on but the idea of the arrogant fucker smashing Johnson all over the place still appeals .

Absolutely Brillant performance from Jimmy. Literally stepped up to the plate and single handedly changed the course of what was a draw into a comfortable win. Amazing spell of fast bowling, up near 90mph with absolutely nothing from the wicket.

Trott needs changing namely Becuase the top 3 is sterile as fuck. Slow, dull, we end up batting so slowly that after 60 overs when the batsmen eventually 'get one', we are 150-3, not 250-3. We won't have that luxury in England with a swinging ball and the partnership of Johnson/Starc and Southee/Boult.

Ali is fine as the spinner, enhances the batting line up too. Not keen on Jordan. I expect a flood of wickets at some point for Stokes, not sure about Jordan though. I'd sooner give Plunkett a go.

We are nationally fucked when Anderson retires. The rest are so very average. Especially on flat wickets.

I actually think Anderson's incredible spell has masked over the really naive selection decisions in this game with regards to the bowling attack.

On these kind of pitches, when very little is happening, you need variety. Rashid would have offered something completely different that might have been the difference. If Anderson, Broad and Stokes aren't making any inroads, then what chance does Chris Jordan have? Get Jordan out and give Rashid a shot.

Hoping that Anderson can dismiss a team almost single-handedly is not a sustainable approach.

Great to see Gregory in there, glad he's got some recognition.. Really good break through season last year, and followed it up with a good start this. Got 6 wickets yesterday, and he's a good batsman too!

All in all I really like the look of that team, would quite like a few of them to break into the first team in the next year or 2

Order something like this?

Alex Hales
Jason Roy
James Vince
James Taylor
Jonny Bairstow
Sam Billings
Zafar Ansari
David Willey
Lewis Gregory
Tim Bresnan
Steven Finn

Willey at 8 and Gregory 9 means a lot of batting

Willey and Gregory have better one day records than Bresnan, Willey will definitely be above Bresnan, Gregory was just a guess tbh. Did use to open for England U19's I think.

Certainly a progressive selection for this ODI game but I note that others are yet to be added and this is very much a one off game with many of the usual suspects unavailable.

Yeah nothing more than to look at one or two who could be of interest like Ansari, Vince, Willey, Billings and maybe Gregory while giving players like Taylor and Hales etc a game to say we haven't forgotten you.
