because everyone above us keeps dropping points.... I never expected us to be there at the start of the season but the way it's panned out we should be in there

But you're also dropping points. Moreso than the teams above you, hence your position.

fucking hell anyone else wanna dig me out? we just played crewe and chesterfield at home no disrespect to those but we should be winning those and with others dropping points we should of been up there. tbf I've never seriously bigged up our chances of getting in there anyway since the turn of the year we've been shit.

I thought you had half a sniff of top 6 to be fair through the autumn, but the league seems to have turned upside down since Christmas for all of us. We've lost to some lowly teams over the last few weeks that we really should've been beating (Blackpool, Oldham, Fleetwood and Chesterfield spring to mind), but we've got away with it so far thanks to other challengers (bar Millwall and Barnsley) being equally out of form.

To be fair most of the top 14 clubs probably feel they should be in the top six. The reason 8 of us aren't is down to inconsistency, Southend seem to be a side that wins 3 or 4 in a spell then go winless for a few games and that pattern is through the league in many places.

Coventry for example were flying, then win 3 in 16 or something, Barnsley have done the opposite. Weird league.

I actually think the pressure is getting to us. Arguably the smallest team in the league and probably one of the lowest budgets is starting to tell. Our squad is very small, we need a couple of experienced players in on loan to ease the load a little as our players are looking very tired.

I think you're right, the rest of the league is so poor though I'm still expecting you to finish top 2. Milwall could give you a good race to the finish but I think they've given themselves too much to do.

You're still 9 points ahead of Gillingham. That's 3 whole games you'd have to lose and they'd have to win.. That would be an almighty collapse with 11 games to go.

They have to play Millwall, Wigan, Barnsley and Gillingham. All plausible losses.

On our injury issues, seems like all are progressing ahead of schedule but won't be rushed back in. Jackson should be back in for tomorrow against Crewe, McDonald and Egan are both back in light training and Bradley Dack is 'looking to overcome all the elements and looking to get back quicker than anyone has ever done before' - whatever that means.

I think today just goes to show how right all the fans were to condemn and moan about SOD and his blatant mis-managements.

Correct team picked, Henry starts, Bradshaw has a partner in Hiwula and we play with wingbacks, like we did until Christmas away from home..

The result speaks for itself. (Yes 10 men - but we were 2-1 up by then)..

Joining the thread briefly, as I assume we won't win at Boundary Park.

Into the top 6 now. 7 points off Wigan in 2nd spot and we play Wigan next week. All getting very interesting now.

Weren't some fans getting tired of Keith Hill a few weeks ago? Murmourings of wanting him out?

Such a weird, weird league.

I don't think anybody in their right mind would want him out. It's just that he can be a very irritating man, especially when we're losing games.

Quietly on a decent run and belief seems to be within the club that we can do it, still a tough ask but in very good form and hopefully we can pull it off.

5th and 6th there for the taking for 5 or 6 teams at the moment.

Is it? We have been in the top six since January and haven't looked like dropping out.

Well, excellent week for 8 of the top 10 teams. Burton got back on track after a defeat at Bradford by beating Fleetwood. They are really close to confirming a play off spot, I'd be surprised if 71 doesn't do it, given how far back 7th place. They are going to do it aren't they? Wigan had a damaging day, dropping points against Colchester and falling 6 points behind Burton. Can't afford to keep drawing games if they want to go for the title.

Gillingham and Walsall both got morale boosting heavy wins against relegation threatened teams. Nice confidence boost for both of them. Gillingham now have an interesting run of games coming up against a number of the promotion chasers. Sure, beating a hapless Crewe side is one thing, but now comes the true test for them. Walsall have a great chance to go level with Wigan if they can beat Fleetwood on Tuesday. They have a run of games to possibly get them right back in the hunt for an automatic spot. Millwall let a 2-0 lead slip at Swindon which has allowed the teams below them to close the gap. Bradford have come roaring back into the promotion race with back to back home wins. Big game for them away at Wigan next Saturday.

Coventry picked up a much needed win against Blackpool, but time will tell if they are heading in the right direction or whether this was a one off. Barnsley slipped out of the top 6 with a 2-0 home defeat against Southend. Bit of a surprise result, is this just a blip or has their good run come to an end? Port Vale keep winning to stay in the race for a play off spot, great comeback win against Posh. Their promotion credentials will be put to the test against next week against Burton. Southend responded well to some poor results recently by getting 3 points against Barnsley. Their game with Gillingham looks to be a cracker.

Final games for every team now up as well. Teams in the play offs listed in green, promotion chasers blue, relegation teams in red. Thoughts on who has the toughest/easiest run in?

Not pulled away either so any slip ups and one of the chasing pack could take it with the form they are in (Coventry aside) realistically fifth and sixth are up for grabs whilst 3rd and 4th are probably too far to catch.

Walsall and Gillingham are only three points ahead of ourselves, so not quite sure what you mean. I can't see the top six changing much, if at all, from this point on.

So your saying we shouldn't aim to catch a side 4 points ahead?

No, I'm saying that it's not there for the taking, especially when we have only lost twice this year and have some of the best form in the league. It seems like a credible long shot.
