I'd say with a budget of 5-7 million you should be competing at the top end of the table. My team (Swindon) had a budget of 1.5 million this season and I'd say for most clubs it's probably going to range between 1 and 4 million.
The problem teams face with coming down is they have over paid players not worth their wage which is why they were relegated in the first place. So a budget of 5-7 million is not always reflected on the pitch.

I think when we came down our budget was in the £4 million bracket for the first season, but that included players like David Bell, Gary Mcsheffrey, Cody Mcdonald. That's a million down the shitter right there for almost zero productivity on the pitch.

What is your budget this season do you think? Players like Joe Cole, Fortune etc can't be cheap can they?

We have to get rid of some high earners, although some of these are out of contract this season, but we have a couple who earn around 18K a week (don't even go there, no wonder we got ourselves in a mess) who still have two season left on contracts, so if we can get rid of them as well, we should be able to start to put a decent team together and have a go a going straight back up, but am under no illusions how tough that is

Good day all round as a latic. If we get 3 more points blackpool would need to win all 3 remaining games to have any chance given our better gd.

3 would see us on 51 which will be safe I'd think now

We've been on 51 for ages now! Hopefully it's safe but I'm sick of this season. It's been fucking boring for the most part.

Supposedly around the 2 million mark I think. I think it was described around being in and around the top 10 budgets.

Our mini revival is over then after today, all but confirmed. As ludicrous as it sounds after losing 4-1, I'm sure we worth something today. Hit the post, missed a penalty, had one disallowed and Alnwick was inspired, but we had to go all-out attack to win the game and left us exposed to be caught on the break.

24th Crewe(42) - 30 points RELEGATED. Colchester(H), Oldham(A), Doncaster(H), Fleetwood(A)

Crewe lose again. We are monumentally shit. Moving on, Colchester probably blew their last shot at staying up by losing 4-1 to Posh. Their hopes were slim, probably too much. Doncaster record their first win in like...forever. Can they do it or have they left it too late too? Blackpool got smashed by Rochdale, not looking good for them. Fleetwood surely their last chance to mount a survival bid?

Shrewsbury clawed from behind to get a point at home to Bradford. Their punishing run in doesn't let up though. Fleetwood also got a point at home to Oldham, but will have been hoping for 3. Still, 2 winnable home games, including the biggie against Blackpool, to save their skins. Oldham continue to drag themselves to safety. Long way to go yet, their home game against Crewe is huge. Chesterfield got smashed and they are another who have a big 6 pointer next up.

Well, Colchester should be joining the Alex in L2. Have Donny left it too late? Have Blackpool got enough in the tank?

Tomorrow should be interesting indeed.

Chesterfield v Doncaster
Millwall v Fleetwood
Shrewsbury v Sheff United

Even if we fail to pick up any points from our trip to Southend, we will still be 3pts clear of Blackpool with a better GD, and looking at those games above I can only really see one of Chesterfield or Doncaster getting 3 points (preferably Chesterfield).

I think if we can beat Crewe at home on Saturday then we should be OK (especially as Fleetwood & Blackpool meet).

If we replicate Saturday's performance again for the four remaining games we won't get another point this season.

I'd probably take a point tonight, it keeps Donny at arms length at least.

Win tomorrow and we're sorted. No sign of life at the weekend though sadly.

To be honest I think if Fleetwood beat Blackpool we will all be pretty much sorted anyway!

Hope you're right. We're in our second spell of total shitness this season. Honestly can't see us getting another point.

I'm so looking forward to next season - not.

I can relax now. There's no way we are going down now.

Lord Shez - you wonderful man.

What an incredible job he's done.

Well Latics are resurrected and alive again. The Shezzarection is complete. Can't see Blackpool winning all 3 and us not picking up 3 more points.

Probably bye bye League 1. Only one point from two vital home games and trips to Gillingham and Walsall next up.

It's all down to Posh at home and Swindon away for us but we couldn't be in worse form at such an important stage of the season. Now really relying on Blackpool results.

Personally I hope it's bye bye to Mellon this summer regardless of whether we survive. He's had a lot of money this season and made a complete mess of it and I wouldn't trust him with the important recruitment decisions that need to be made this summer.

Fleetwood v Blackpool is even more massive game now. Can't afford to lose that one.

We've now dropped 13 points in injury time alone during this season. Killer.

Another Mellon example is Danny Rose at Fleetwood. Think we paid Newport £30,000 for him. 10 games later he was shipped out never to be seen again.

I've only seen Shrewsbury place once so I can't really make a massive judgement as I don't know how you play week in week out. However, wasn't your objective this season just to stay up? If it was and you do, surely Mellon has done quite well. You lost two of your best players in Woods and Goldson in summer and they were always gonna be hard to replace.

Had the 9th biggest budget in the league and are paying Matt Tootle £2000 a week to play in their reserves, and that's not a rumour either!

Who the hell are they spending all these wages on?

Looking at their team, there isn't a single player I'd take here. No idea how they're spending so much wages on these players.

After we lost Sheridan's first two games in charge, we looked utterly doomed. 3 wins all season, 8 points off safety, serving up toss week after week. What a remarkable turnaround!

James Collins (sent out on loan to Cobblers) is on £3k per week - we are paying £500 of that at the moment
Tyrone Barnett will also be on big money (also out on loan at Southend)
Nat Knight-Percival and James Wesoloski also likely to be on decent money
Quite a lot on loanees too - KaiKai from Palace and Grimmer from Fulham - presuming we are making a decent contribution to their wages.

I agree though there aren't many players in our squad that I would covet if I supported another team :-(
