Dunno how it would work logistically, but I wouldn’t completely discount it as a terrible idea. Unprecedented times might call for some unlikely solutions.

If it just includes those who actively want to play on, I have no problem with thus either.

This is my problem. Say NLS vote to continue but only 11 teams. The National League vote continue but 7-8 cannot afford to continue. (Wont ahem).
Promotion/Relegation to/from the NL?!?
The EFL will not allow member clubs to be relegated to a league that has no defined structure/rules which is why the NL should have made decisions a lot earlier.

This isn't true and violates the agreement between the EFL and NL.

As I mentioned on the conf north thread, there is a chance you could carry on the north and south seasons wit handfuls of teams if those sides could accept a very limited chance of promotion.

even if the bottom conf national sides gave up (to protect their league position) and make it hard to relegate sides there is still one additional promotion slot available to replace Macclesfield.

you could have the 5-6 sides in north and south battle in small leagues with each winner playing each other to grab promotion slot

I think you’ll find the EFL can quite easily stop their members being sold down the river into this if they so please.

If teams point blank refuse to play (Dover surely being the first of many) the pressure will be on the EFL to make a call. As a Grimsby fan I’m obviously bias but it hardly seems fair that us and another club should lose our places in the league to teams who haven’t completed a full season.

These are unprecedented times it was the same last season. Teams were promoted and relegated on points per game. It was the only way it could be done..
It made some teams happy it annoyed some teams.
You can't please everyone. If you or any team at the bottom end of league 2 finishes in the relegation zone then you deserve to be relegated like you would any other season.

The national league season though in my opinion isnt going to end

Don’t get me wrong, myself and every other Grimsby fan is completely accepting of our fate at the minute. Whilst we’d love a reprieve we’re not relying on it.

However one thing is for certain, the EFL will not allow for PPG to happen in NL, it’s simply not going to happen. I’m still sure you lot will somehow force something through, on the outside it’s absolutely kamikaze from the lot of you. Clubs will go bust over this for sure and it’s a shame to watch the clubs in with a chance of promotion chastising those who are looking after their long term futures.

Weren't Barrow promoted on PPG last season though, with Harrogate through the play-offs?

Sorry worded or wrong. By the season not ending I mean it's not going to be voided it will get to the end of the season.
The biggest problem for most if going to be trying to fit 20+ games into 3 months.

Yes, and PPG was decided in League 2 as well. This year League 2 will finish properly which means the EFL won’t relegate 2 member clubs for teams who have failed to complete their own.

I'd be willing to bet that the National League will also finish properly.

The fact that Dover have thrown a wobbly when we haven't even had a decision is pretty on brand for Parmenter.

The EFL will throw the teams at the bottom of League Two under the bus whatever happens, no chance they’d create any kind of precedent on blocking promotions between organisations.

Step One will finish anyway now it seems fairly clear, it’s just whether it’s with all of the teams.

That only Parmenter has resigned suggests he's a lone voice on the board. Only Dover and maybe Barnet seem to be geared up to an early end to the season, everyone else seems pretty intent on finishing properly.

There is no way the EFL can pull the plug on promotion/relegation based on a tantrum from Dover. It's completely irrelevant and has nothing to do with them. And we won't be finishing on PPG either.

I'm not convinced about that. They gave Bury way more leeway than they really merited and will look out for their own ahead of us I think.
We simply have to finish the season as a functioning league to maintain promotion / relegation.

King’s Lynn as well.

Needs the result of the vote in, really. The 15/16 that The Athletic piece suggested are in favour of continuing is a pretty decisive majority, and enough to complete a season. Particularly as I would guess two or three of those who are likely to vote null and void (the ex-league clubs like Yeovil and Aldershot) would continue rather than taking the Dover route.

I don’t think they care about us at all, I think that they care more about not giving any kind of precedent for a ring-fenced Premier League than they do about Grimsby, Southend or Stevenage.

I think if the League board make it clear that it's likely to be relegation below step 2 for NL teams refusing to fulfil fixtures very few would fail to complete.

Yeah, agreed. Even King's Lynn, the only other club that's publicly said they want to stop, have got some decent £ behind them.

I think Lew's making the mistake of thinking that the make up of the league is similar to when they were down here, but it's getting more professional ever year. Back in 14/15, as an example, you had Nuneaton, Alfreton, Dartford, Telford, Welling, Southport, Altrincham, Braintree and Dover as small, part time teams who you would just assume would vote null and void. There's now only two or three teams like that left. Everyone else is full time and most have got serious backers behind them.

Two teams will be relegated from Lge 2 unless the NL is null and void. Even if it goes on PPG or some teams have their results expunged, there will still be 2 relegated from Lge 2 if Lge 2 finishes as normal, and the NL have two teams promoted based on whatever reasoning they come up with.

It won't go to PPG for the NL anyway it will either be null and void or finishes even if one or two teams give in and have their results written off.

There does need to be less of the top teams criticising the teams at the bottom for only wanted it to end because they are at the bottom. The only reason the teams at the top want to carry on is because they are at the top, as with everything in Football, clubs look after No. 1 first and foremost, that won't change.
