Have to say I did initially think it was just the usual bright optimism you get from Carlisle but it doesn't look great for them. Credit to Oldham though, that they are even with a shout of getting out of trouble is incredible really given how dire it looked just a matter of weeks ago. Whether its sustainable to the end of the season we'll see.

after today's results i'd say everyone from Walsall up should feel fairly safe (apart from Bradford whose fans will still worry).

Scunthorpe need a miracle, but it's 1 from 6 after that.

A welcome win for us. Could not fault the attitude. Simpson has clearly motivated them as they looked well up for it.

However I still think the youthful back line will still end up being our undoing. Against a semi confident team we’d have buckled today, it’s so weak. We absolutely shat our pants, even against 10 men.

That can’t happen against more in form sides.

It’s nice to enjoy a win for a change, but it really doesn’t change my mind. We are going down. But I expect we’ll at least go down fighting.

I'd think we will need at least four more wins and around 46 points to stay up, and it's going to be very tight even if that is enough.

Looking at our fixtures, we have five more games that stand out as winnable to me - Orient (H), Scunthorpe (A), Stevenage (H), Bradford (H), Walsall (H). So that doesn't really leave much room for error, starting with Orient on Tuesday night. All our more winnable fixtures are now essentially must win games.

We'll have had four successive home games against Hartlepool, Oldham, Orient and Port Vale by this time next week, and one point from the first two of those so far isn't good enough.

We're looking to be the first team to go down with a positive goal difference innit :2thumb:

Unless we get a manager in with some know how, we will likely go down - 2 goals in our last 14 games, one of which was a lucky own goal and we keep losing games 1-0.

I’ve no idea why the hell you think that.

If Simpson had a transfer window coming up to sort us out then I’d see why, but battling relegation with centre backs with just over 20 appearances between them is only going to end one way sadly.

You like me have seen enough relegation battles with Carlisle to know it isn’t about who you play or about not getting a thumping, it is all about scrapping enough wins.

You can get thumped off the top 5 sides as long as you grab stuff vs Oldham, barrow, Rochdale, Walsall, Stevenage etc etc……them games will dictate the season.

Carlisle look a poor side but if they have one saving grace our record this season has shown we are beating or taking points vs the poorer or out of form sides……may be enough.

Start flogging them games and we are in trouble.

Oldham will bank a lot of hyping up next week as enormous and it may work but have seen many a time the home side can overrhype that game the pressure piles on the hole side and we take the win……..Chester in 2000 and Shrewsbury in 2003 good examples although we will say nothing about Scarborough in 1999!

Stevenage may be under the radar a bit, they had a little up tick but have dropped off again and looked absolutely dreadful yesterday, we didn’t get out of second gear and cruised. Every ball that went into their box they looked incapable of really defending and despite knocking the ball around well didn’t really have any threat at all.

Could see them getting caught if Oldham keep up their form and Carlisle have a new manager bounce.

Stevenage have a manager who doesnt seem to have any idea how to improve things either;

Sounds familiar..:animatedf:

Yep I think if there is a real glimmer of hope for Carlisle and Oldham at least (I think it’s just too much for Scunny sadly) it’s this Stevenage team. They are dreadful. One or two players that have known are handy in the past like Elliot List but they were by far the worst team have seen this season. Defensively a shambles and in possession they do the usual Tisdale style of slow paced side to side but never really threatening.

They should have gone down a couple of years ago and were saved by Maccs sad demise. I think it’ll catch up with them this time.

No chance Stevenage were worse than Rochdale on Tuesday. Nowhere near. At least they knocked it around okay and had one or two players trying to make something happen. Rochdale seemed like the ball was a ticking time bomb and were just constantly trying to give it back to us. Worst performance from a professional side I've ever seen.

Am I the only one (and I've said this since Christmas now) that thinks Colchester will be the one to go down? Maybe it's just my opinion but I'm sticking by it.

Colchester were similar to Stevenage, knocked it around well but couldn’t defend nor pose a big threat.

Rochdale were very poor but did defend relatively ok. Just couldn’t pass or get into a dangerous position.

For me Stevenage and Colchester the two worst sides so far in that they were bad in both boxes.

That said we only see teams once or twice a season, you’d not have expected Dale to beat Northampton!

Northampton have played Barrow (H), Scunthorpe (A) and Rochdale (A) fairly recently and their record was;-
Played 3 Won 0 Drew 1 Lost 2 GF 0 GA 2 Points 1
looks like they have an issue getting motivated against bottom sides.

Well they beat us pretty comfortably last week.

In fact, their record against the bottom eight sides is currently P10, W8, D1, L1.

Our worst performance of the season by a mile Tuesday. Saturday was the total opposite, and should have beaten Northampton by more really. Thanks for the 4 points though :fish:. 6 from Northampton too. We've drawn a number of games we really should have won. For me the stolen point against PV makes up for the game we threw away at FGR a few weeks back, where we deserved at least a draw.

I think that because Simmo is our manager again at last, immediately bringing the buzz back!
I expect us to win most games now so easily and take the piss out of teams beating them 5-0 every week just like the last time he was here.

But we have shit players.

Remember last time he was here he had shit players to begin with and only won one game in his first 3 months until he could make some signings.

Unfortunately this time he’s stuck with this group of shit players.

It’s a thankless task.

We've scored 1 goal in 2022.

Drawn 1 and lost 9 in the last 10 (obviously scoring only once).

Enough said.

Yes but those lot of players he was stuck with last time were drunken wasters who would get into fights on nights out etc

The players he has now are a sensible bunch at least who I'm sure he'll get the best out of.

I don’t doubt Simmo’s ability to get the best out of them. But the best out of these players still won’t be enough to stay up. Too many shit players in key positions sadly.

But still, if simmo can create a feel good factor and get the fans back onside we can at least go into next season’s National League with some hope of having a competitive team at that level.

Stevenage must indeed be dreadful, we did the double over them this season.

Stevenage and Scunny to go down for me

Oh ffs shut up with your incessant negativity. Enjoy your win tonight please.

You’re definitely one of those types who puts his cue back in the rack when he misses an easy shot, thinking your opponent is going to clear up

I thought we would have enough to stay up so far this season but that's gradually ebbed away over the last few weeks. False dawns since Christmas with wins over Colchester and Northampton, January recruitment that hasn't made a difference, manager with an eight game touchline ban. We are completely toothless, we have a big run of games in March against teams around us but we are lacking in any inspiration. We aren't even decent at home.
