I still think it will be Oldham joining us in getting relegated.

They've picked up under Sheridan but good times never seem to last at that club, their chairman will do something stupid and mess things up for them

I thought we would have enough to stay up so far this season but that's gradually ebbed away over the last few weeks. False dawns since Christmas with wins over Colchester and Northampton, January recruitment that hasn't made a difference, manager with an eight game touchline ban. We are completely toothless, we have a big run of games in March against teams around us but we are lacking in any inspiration. We aren't even decent at home.
it comes down to the next 5 games.... Walsall (H), Rochdale (A), Scunthorpe (A), Carlisle (H) and Orient (A)...

Not pretty at all tonight. In fact totally dominated by a pretty good Rochdale team really and seriously rode our luck at times. But do I care? Do I fuck.

The change in attitude and desire since Simpson came in is remarkable. We are are still shite, but we are scrapping and working our socks off which is more than we were under Keith Millen.

I still think we are one of the two worst teams and it will tell by the end of the season, but it’s nice to see a bit of desire and commitment to at least go somewhere to making up for the lack of quality.

Big game on Saturday at Oldham. I’d take a scrappy undeserved point right now.

Are Carlisle fans finally gonna shut the fuck up now!?

You mean is that boring overly negative hellogregory Carlisle troll on here going to finally shut the fuck up?

No he hasn't, we're still one of the worst two teams apparently..

Not sure about that. The way Stevenage played against us last week does'nt bow well for them.

Would love Stevenage to go down and never return.

Proper tin pot club, no fans and an awful away day.

You can have Loft back if that helps?
Seriously though he has looked piss poor so far and seems to give fouls away whenever he is near the ball.
He is obviously better than he has shown, but what style of play gets the best out of him in your opinion?

can't be much worse than Leon Clarke on Tuesday - he was awful - his only contribution was getting Canavan sent off - and that red card's been rescinded.

He seems to need to be incredibly motivated to play well. When he cares, he can be unstoppable. When he doesn't care, it's like playing with ten men.

I think he was best here playing up front by himself but with a player sat just behind him in the hole. Him and Abo Eisa were fantastic together when they played like that.

Cheers for the info.
We do have the players for that style but things don't seem to have clicked so far, although he was injured early on and now Collins has started scoring goals up front on his own, so his chances have been limited.

Agreed Leon was'nt so good tuesday. Missed a sitter from a couple of yards. But generally speaking he has been class when he has played.

Got to say I don’t recall so few away fans visiting VP on a Saturday than Stevenage at the weekend, 74 I think!

Crawley have had 20 odd in our away end in recent years but they were Tuesday nights so can excuse that but 74 on a Saturday is awful.

Feel like we must have played Stevenage more than any other club in my time. Just always seem to be in the same division as them since our conference season. We beat them in the playoff final and then got back to back promotions but they weren't far behind us and joined us in league one. We were relegated down here at the same time too.

I think I'd almost miss their stupid face and Graham Westley (will they follow Oldham and Carlisle's example and sack tisdsle and appoint Westley in an attempt to stay up?) if they went down.

I don't think we've ever beaten Stevenage. Our record against every single tinpotter is woeful.

Would be very happy to see them drop

Oldham should have beaten mansfield today and had by far the better chances against a shambolic mansfield performance.

it’s now 11 (eleven) games without a win, and you can’t help but help but feel he’s lost the plot, he’s absolutely no idea what he’s doing! his decision to bring oates on over ward was another on an increasingly long list of failures he’s made.

He waits until mansfield go behind until he does anything and has no positivity about him at all.

After a miserable return of 1 point from 2 home games against barrow and oldham is a serious worry.

games against northampton (away) port vale (home) exeter (away) and tranmere (home) will yield no points.

we just have to hope the 2 aides worse than us carry on being worse, this side has all the makings of the mansfield side that got relegated in 2008.

In short were fucked

Big wins for Colchester and Carlisle, a decent points buffer and a number of shit teams between them and the bottom two, another couple of wins may well be enough.

It's turning into a proper shit off between us, Stevenage, Oldham and maybe to an extent Orient. They can all find the back of the net more often than us however.

Honestly, Simmo has given us such a huge chance. The team is shite but he is so inspiring and tactically astute, it kind of makes up for it.

2 weeks ago after the Swindon defeat, I wouldn’t have thought in a million years that we’d win the next 3 games.

Still a lot of hard work to go and it could still easily turn to shit again, but he’s given us half a chance of escaping.

If we don't get a manager in to give us a chance, we will go down. We haven't won for 15 games now and look appalling.

Our owner is now even rattled, saying managers are turning us down and he can't quite understand why.........well, if they watched us for the last 2 months, you will see why.

The players don't really seem to bothered either, well why would they when the board we have keep making serious mistakes.

Adam’s view of Mr Clough had certainly changed by yesterday:

That’s one of the many benefits of having clough - not only is he probably the best manager in the league he’s also got contacts across the spectrum,

Things looking a lot tougher for us now than they did a week or so ago. Drawing at Colchester and yesterday’s sucker punch against Carlisle is less than ideal. We’ve some really tough games coming up now and playing without a real centre forward due to injuries. Going to the wire I think.

5 losses on the trot can’t help but feel we aren’t safe regardless of number of teams down there, the consolation been if we play like we have last two games since Sparky came in we should be okay but need points asap. Only one CB at the club is a crime we’ll need 3 goals to win a game.

Only three points ahead of us now, which shows how bad you've been, but you're right, you're not going to be troubling the relegation zone, you won't be as bad under Hughes as you were and nine points is a huge cushion at this end of the table

EDIT: oh i see the double negative now.

There’s no way we’re troubling the bottom two regardless of our current form (too many below us), there’s no way we’ll win on Saturday (FGR away) which will be 6 on the spin but as above, play as we have since Hughes came in and the points will come - Vernam to come back, Walker, key players missing during our hardest run of games by far of the season. Once we’re mathematically safe and the pressure is off I could even see us putting a bit of run together to finish off with a couple of wins.

We just picked up two points from three games against Carlisle, Colchester & Stevenage (and should have lost both of the games we drew). We don’t have a manager, haven’t won since December & utterly lost our identity as a side when Craig Clay and Tom James both got ruled out for the season. There’s no ‘extent’ about it. We’ve fallen off a cliff and don’t seem to have the remotest idea how to turn things around. Proper in the shit, us.

This is why despite our recent wins, I still think we’ll go down.

Our remaining fixtures.

Northampton (2nd) - H
Newport (5th) - H

Barrow (22nd) - A
Bristol R (9th) - H
Rochdale (17th) - A
Tranmere (7th) - A
Exeter (3rd) - H
Walsall (16th) - A
Mansfield (6th) - H
Harrogate (14th) - A
Stevenage (21st) - H
Bradford (15th) - A

Those home fixtures are horrendous. We’ll be lucky to have a point from the 5 home games leading into the final one against Stevenage.
It puts a hell of a lot of pressure on us getting results on the road. We have won our last 2 away games but overall we don’t tend to travel well. The Barrow game is going to be huge, as it will probably be off the back of successive defeats. It will simply be must win.

yeah - but if you need 3 points in the last match you've got a pretty good chance at Bradford.

I’m afraid you’ll need to find a different angle - our fixtures are just as hard, if not harder:

Swindon (A) 8th
Walsall (A) 16th
Exeter (H) 3rd
Sutton (H) 4th
Mansfield (H) 6th
Orient (H) 20th
Stevenage (A) 21st
Vale (A) 10th
Northampton (H) 2nd
FGR (A) 1st
Salford (H) 11th
Tranmere (A) 7th
Crawley (H) 13th

You have plenty more winnable home games than us and I think it’s what teams do at home that will decide things.

Honestly I wouldn’t even be that worried about playing the promotion chasers at home. Obviously never going to be easy but they’ll be under pressure themselves knowing one slip up could cost them especially with how close everything is. With the away games with the exception of Tranmere (and they’ve hit the rocks a little) there’s none of them you’d look at and think they’re particularly daunting either.

My money would be on Carlisle to survive with maybe a bit to spare.
