Officially announced now that McCarthy will be leaving. I for one, despite wanting him to leave, would like him to be given a decent send off. He did what needed to be done but he’s run his course

In the grand scheme of things, he's done a solid job, with the lack of investment Ipswich could have quite easily dropped into League One. Last season was crap but 6th, 7th, & 9th placed finishes before that.

Right decision made. Deserves a good send off but it's a natural end. Last 2 years have been utter dross even when we've won games. Don't understand this be careful what you wish for line, if going to watch your team every week isn't an enjoyable experience then a change is needed. Evans needs to back Mick's successor now

We could have the first season yes, and he did a great job to get us to the play offs but since then it’s been dire and constant digs at the fans.
I’d arguably say he’s been backed more this season and got a better squad than the play off year, yet we continue to play for draws/do not lose.
Like I say, I appreciate what he’s done but it’s time for a fresh start.

Aye, I agree, its gone stale and he's stayed a season too long but on the whole I don't think his tenure has been a failure.

Be careful what you wish for annoys me so much. EVERY team says we’re the worst team they’ve seen.
I’m adamant we’ve got players who could play decent football if given the instructions to do so.

I'm glad he's gone actually, our record against you is fucking shocking since coming back into this league. McCarthy's got our number.

You were one of the worst teams I've seen this season but still beat us.

Yes, but when you've got Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner up front you're going to be playing for every percentage.

Not that things can't be better, but the manager is the buffer between investment and playing personnel. If the owners don't back the new gaffer better than they did Mick I don't see how you'll do much better. In fact, it seems likely you'll do worse.

I think you’re being too harsh on Waghorn there! Mick has been given modest backing this year and imo has brought in some great players. They always start off so brightly until they are brought into his ‘must not lose’ tactics. See Waghorn, Celina, Sears, Pitman and arguably Garner.

My main concern is that it’s been left too long and as Mick can talk the talk, the players are right behind him even though his tactics make them look awful.

In recent weeks he’s been clearly causing a divide between the players and the fans, hence the on the pitch team talk after the Hull game.

I can see why teams have been relegated after he’s left as he builds a core of players who will start no matter what despite how rubbish they are and because of this, I can see them turning against any new manager.

This has all happened because the owners lack of interest and pretty much allowed Mick to have the view that he’s bigger than the club.

In the week West Ham invaded their pitch, Mick used the word ‘disgrace’ to describe the Town fans for singing for him to leave. Christ sake we are the most placid fans around! Any excuse to get people on his side!

Anyway, on to better things I hope! Season ticket prices down 10% and the owner talking about actually having an interview in front of the cameras gives a little bit of hope that he has also finally realised things need to change. We’ve hit his pocket already by dropping attendances, lost him £1.5m in ticket sales for the year to 16/17 and imagine a similar amount this year with every dropping attendances.

- After Ipswich's 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City on Saturday, one reporter asked McCarthy if he'd be interested in the West Brom job, and the suggestion raised a smile.

“The Albion? That would p*** a few people off wouldn’t it?" said McCarthy. "But you know me, I like p***ing people off.”

Bruce will be gone if we fail to go up. There is also a lot of talk of him not being here, if we were to go up.I can definitely understand why, but it would be a shame for him to get the boot if we went up.

Nowt would suprise me in football now. Mike ashley sacked chris houghton aftrr he got newcastle up. Im guessing bruce has been heavily backed financially to get the team promoted

We spent ridiculous money last season. Di Matteo, and then Bruce had more than their fair share. This season we had to tighten it, but Bruce has had a good squad to play about with. I like Bruce, but if he fails to get this team up two years on the bounce, then he has failed. I also think if we do go up, then we would need someone with a bit more about them, in order to progress. He has done some good things whilst he's been at the club though. He has got rid of that losing mentality which was deep rooted within the club.

Was no shock they never went up last season. The rot had set in before bruce came and at one point it looked they villa would do a sunderland

Bruce stabilised the ship. Without the money invested into the team, we would of gone down last season without a doubt.

clement will do well for reading - nice man and top coach - if a bit defensive

dour mick is one of those managers you'd hate to be at your club but with a neutral head you have to assess him as a steady manager

same with bruce at villa really - you don't want him but he does a job - villa couldn't stop losing at one point so he's done well to reverse that - the state they were in it was going to take a couple of seasons - not going up this time wouldn't be a disaster - a settled happy squad should walk automatic promotion next season

Not a disaster if we manage to keep hold of key players, which I'm sure we will. He has been a bit of a mixed bag at villa if I'm being honest, but he has done more good than bad. We actually go on good runs now, which wasn't the case for the previous 4, of 5 seasons. Still, I think it's very important we go up this season. I'm not sure about our financial capabilities, although if we do manage to keep the squad together, 2, or 3 additions would be enough.

Some of our fans are obsessed with the idea of dean smith taking over from Bruce. If we are to go up, then Benitez, Silva, and Dyche are the most popular names :bg:

Paul Clement doing well, although it wasn't hard to improve on the dross we witnessed with Stam.

Seems to have built bridges with Chris Martin, especially after shagging his missus whilst he was at Derby.
