Questions need to be asked on why Bournemouth still had him under contract just 2 years ago.

What the heck did they ever see in him.....

Holroyd is not a goalscorer though and never has been. He has been a good solid player in his time though, Macc fans will tell you that too.

If we’re counting players who are only shit now because they are basically finished then I’m sure we could all name loads. I thought this was for strikers who are shit and always have been. Like Joe Quigley.
Holroyd's probably a better winger than a striker. Decent enough and a hard worker but never been one to bang them in regularly.
I liked Holroyd as a winger or supporting striker. But he's weak as piss. You only need to look at his hair to know that.

In his brief spell with us in L1 under the fuck head Westley I didn't think he was terrible... Compared to some of them anyway.

Remember him hitting the woodwork a bunch of times. If they had gone in then maybe he'd be remembered with a bit less piss taking.

Byron Harrison signs for Altrincham

Haha, he's got a bit of competition for moderate strikers here.

But on a serious note, looking him up on Wikipedia, I see he scored 27 in 56 games for Barrow over two seasons, then it's 1 in his last 49. What happened to him, has he been cursed by someone?

He injured his ankle and since then has just been lethargic and ineffective. Doesn't really get involved in the game and struggles to hold the ball up.

Cheers, sigh.

We turned him down. That is how bad we are talking.

Then again, we let Mark Harris go back to Cardiff last season and now he's starting for them so that probably doesn't tell you much.

he did also score a couple for us in pre-season, probably would have been just as capable for us as any of our current crop

The well reputable strikers are not finding the net, they seems to be shooting from far since defence line is a bit stronger

Even when Weymouth finally get rid, some team will stupidly give him another chance at National League level.

Surprised Mulling's hasn't been investigated for match fixing yet, he's that bad. Most inept striker I've ever seen at the Shots and apart from a brief purple patch at Chelmsford, he's averaged 1 goal in 10 over an eight year career.

You do wonder about these players. Surely every manager at this level know how bad they are. How do they keep getting contracts?

Lazy scouting and managers phoning it in.

They look at the CV and see they've had about 10 clubs down here so think they'll be ok for them. "Experienced", "know the level" etc etc.

The Gary Mills effect, ring your favourite agent "who have you got?"

I know I've said it elsewhere on here before, but I remember watching Shamir Mullings for Thamesmead Town a number of years ago now and he was like bambi on ice then too. The chairman was fuming because he thought he was useless but the manager wanted to offer him a proper contract.

To be fair, the fact he's gone on to play (however poorly) at much higher levels than Thamesmead suggests a contract wasn't the worst idea.

Mullings was without a doubt the worst striker operating at this level. Bet he finds a club in the NLS who are desperate.

Some high quality finishing from Byron Harrison at 5:40 and 7:50.

The second one is hilarious. He was fucking tragic when he played for us aswell

He must not be shit but is there any particular reason no FL club has ever gone for Michael Cheek? He has a pretty good goal record in Non-League yet I have never even heard rumours of him coming to the FL.

I've never seen him play so is he just not that good?

He's not the most refined of players, but with him I think it's a similar situation to Paul McCallum in that several clubs have paid him very well at this level so there is little incentive for him to leave.

He's also 29 so EFL teams won't be queueing up.
