I was in the garden once digging a few holes with me shovel to plant some trees. Next doors cat was on the wall watching me do it, every time i looked up from digging it was looking right at me. I stopped to make a brew and was looking down the garden at my handy work and this cat just jumped off the wall and strolled over to where i was diggins. It then dug a hole itself had a shit in the hole and covered it up.

I've never had a cat and thought that was truly amazing, its like it watched me and copied me.

Why were you shitting in holes?

The whole conversation reminds me of Hammy dying. I thought I'd cried out all my tears until Nayim scored from the half-way line a matter of weeks later. My mum had to give me an aspirin to help me stop sobbing and get to sleep. I don't think the two were unrelated, to be honest. Maybe I thought that I was over the grief of losing my beloved hamster, but David Seaman's crushed face perhaps communicated the same exquisite ennui as Hammy's cold, lifeless little form under the washing machine, discovered weeks after he'd gone missing. Both were two sides of the same coin; dour confirmation that whether we end up trapped without food under a Hotpoint, or lobbed in the 120th minute of a European final, an abyss awaits us all.

In comparison I was thrilled when both my parents died.

I remember being greatly saddened at your loss Smat. Was it really as long ago as 1995?

Hammy would have been 24 years old now.

Makes you think.

I'm aware it can be for some, but for me that it's a bit fucked up. And for me the death of that pet can't and shouldn't be compared to a close family member.

However, some people find it easier to relate to and love an animal than they do other people, even family members. Perhaps the fact I can't understand this either might explain my opinion. I've nothing against pets, I grew up with them and I have been close to dogs and cats in the past. But to compare their deaths to that of my aunt for example, which particularly effected me when it happened? No, that I don't understand.
And that is what it all boils down to mate.

Yeah, we both have opinions, but in this case I am WRITE. If someone think the same of your pet as your family members you're a little bit fucked up.

I've got an old cat whose back legs are going. I had to get her down from the fence the other day as she got stuck up there. I've had her 12 years and will be gutted when she passes away. I'll make sure I give updates of my cat's health in Premier League match threads like Saltire did when his cat prolapsed (Liverpool vs Manchester United), it was light relief compared to most of that thread.

Hope your cat gets well soon Saltire, it's not very fun seeing your pet ill.
Ah, a fucking smart arse eh? It was a simple typo but you obviously felt you had to make a point of it! I am in no way fucked up not even a little & don't for one minute think your opinion has more weight than mine or anybody else..

Humans are more important than animals. That's enshrined in our law as well as our culture.

It wasn't a typo. You used the wrong word. There's a difference. But I guess you knew that already.

Having kids and a dog would be better. Then you can directly compare.

Life changing difference.......... But you still had to act the smart arse. Humans are more important than animals? Some definitely are not but whether you know or accept that depends on the level of one's mentality and morality........and of course the individual's culture. But I guess you knew THAT already....

My parent's cuddly, fat dog or Ian Huntley? A case for the dog could be had, I guess.

Went to the vet and he was pretty positive on it all things considered, telling us how some tumours are worse than others and that if its in the bowel then if it can be removed it shouldn't be of too much concern for the cat (Leo, yes Leo, you have a namesake!) as you can take out bits of a bowel and put it back together again relatively easily. Of course if nothing can be done then so be it, but at least he's willing to try. Tuesday he goes in for the op then; fingers crossed it all goes well! The little bastard has been full of the beans tonight - he's a fighter alright! :D

It's through the PDSA but we'll pay it all as this is a biggie and we'd like to help them out as much as they are helping us with the cat.

Yeah we donate every time we go but this one will be an expensive job particularly if it takes a few hours.
