£40m for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Fair play to Arsenal on this one. Last year of his contract as well!

Fair play if they go out and get someone better for less. Which they won't.
Seems too much of the Summer has been focussing on keeping Sanchez. Gabriel, possibly Mustafi gone, Gibbs gone from the back line, Ox away. In was Lacazette who should have been bought years ago and a free transfer. Hmmm.

Aye if Pearce is confirming it, its done. Good bit of business; if they get VVD in (and though its looking doubtful now) and Lemar; then we've had a great window and Coutinho could fuck off with our approval.

Don't know how to feel about the Ox, he's at the age where he's no longer considered a talent. He seems a bit brain dead when he's central and a bit braindead out wide, 9 league goals since he sjgned for Arsenal but I still feel like there's a player in there.

He has huge potential. The reason he's never progressed is due to the lack of coaching to players there these days, which he'll get here. Very happy with the signing, always thought he was a dangerous player when in form.

BBC reporting it's done. Meh. I've never been overly impressed with Oxlade-Chamberlain, be it in an Arsenal or England shirt. And him potentially now being a Liverpool player won't magically change that. Still, £40m is fuck all these days, as ridiculous as that might sound. Perhaps the talk of his talent being stalled at Arsenal due to Wenger's (alleged) shit training methods are true and at only 24 he still has plenty of time to push on. I'll trust Klopp that this turns out to be a good buy but I'm skeptical. I doubt he'll be a first choice starter, so he might end up regretting the move on a personal level.

I like that he turned down the tarquins for us in preference. That will make him a fan favourite from the off.

That's because Arsene Wenger believed this squad as it is, was good enough to challenge. We haven't been looking for too many new players for that very reason.

It's gotten to the stage that buying a couple centre backs and centre mids is so important that getting those in and then selling Sanchez and not buying a replacement would leave us in a better place than the status quo.

A complete and utter shambles.

What's his best position though? I know he wants the central role and that's why he's apparently gone to Liverpool instead of Chelsea but he doesn't start for either in that position for me. He'd probably get in now ahead of Wijnaldum or Can though.

My mate's an Arsenal season ticket holder and reckons he's always at his best when he's played as a wing back but can also do a reasonable job as a sitting midfielder next to someone who's going to do the dirty work. Has the odd decent run with very little end product.

No he doesn't, he been bought as a utility player in midfield and possibly the wing, but he's not starting big games ahead of the other two yet imo.

Chelsea aren't getting their way at all in this window are they?

It's great.

Its about time we got players as well from under their nose instead of them doing it to us over the years. Solanke and Ox will do nicely to start with. :D

Remember when Suarez wanted to leave us for Arsenal?

Feels like a lifetime ago.

I can't imagine any quality player wanting to join Arsenal at the moment, seems like a truly toxic atmosphere going on there.

Its a shambles, the negligence running through that club just now is scary. They've never been the same since they got rid of David Dein.

The likes of Ox and Wilshere should get themselves off to mid table cpubs or at best Everton. Clubs where they'll get plenty of gametime and theres less competition for places. As is, I dont see Ox getting in the first 11 at Liverpool. I also reckon Liverpool dont really play in a way that suits him positionally.

Honestly the midfield is so bad a fit Wilshere (does that count as an oxymoron?) should get plenty of game time.

Stockport County.
I think Oxlade-Chamberlain (I refuse to call him The Ox) is a good player and always actually looks better in the middle than out wide. Wijnaldum had a good game the other day but I think Chamberlain is the better player. Gone a bit stale at Arsenal but one thing Klopp will do is try and rev him up a bit with his style. It's a good signing for Liverpool providing he's an addition and not a Coutinho replacement.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be paid about £125,000 a week by Liverpool. Turned down new Arsenal contract worth up to £180,000 a week

Holy moly. He's so desperate to leave that he's willing to be paid less money. And for a club like Liverpool! What on earth is going on at Arsenal Football Club?

Wing backs, as made famous by the Premier league in 2017.

Well it's quite obvious that we're in dire financial straits. BBC's David Ornstein has just tweeted that the club "has no more money for major signings."

We're £30m up in a transfer window in which Kyle Walker moved for £55m.

Surely a club in dire financial straits wouldn't be offering someone like THE OX! £180,000 a week.

We do need to more on quite a lot of dead weight from the team. I reckon we could get a decent price for Welbeck still.

Very weird situation. Your squad is pretty huge with players like Debuchy, Wilshere, Cazorla, Joel Campbell still on the books so maybe the wage structure isn't properly balanced. Will be interesting to see what happens with Sanchez over the next 24 hours, selling him to a domestic rival would be a disaster.

I know, I was more suggesting that that explanation is complete and utter nonsense. Anyone who believes Arsenal haven't got any money is an absolute mug.

Btw Welbeck would be wayyyy down my list of people to get rid of. Just don't play him at centre-forward when you've spent the best part of £50m on an actual striker.

Likely that Sanchez will go to City, and I'd rather do that now for £60m plus than on a free transfer next summer. He doesn't want to play for the club so we need rid of him. Ideally to PSG or someone but I really don't care if it's in the Premier League as long as it happens tomorrow.

As for a 'domestic rival', I wasn't aware Southampton or Burnley were interested.

I think he's utter shit and neither scores nor creates enough to justify starting him over the players already at the club. How many times has he fallen over in a good positon? Why is that even a fucking thing he does?

If he was a squad player, covering injuries and playing cup games then I'd happy with him. As it is I would celebrate his leaving this club if only stop Wenger from picking him.

I only long for Xhaka's transfer more in fact.

Sadly this I agree with. We need a big old rebuild and we need to be honest with ourselves. It's not happening with Sanchez, so we need to plan for the future without and we need to do it now
