Did you take GB's post seriously Bilo? He was clearly, albeit with a small element of seriousness, taking the piss.
No if you read the two posts again you'll see that I am clearly accusing of him of trolling, quite the opposite of taking his opinion seriously.

I just think it's a shame, a real shame. :hypo:

Reliable sources are reporting that we made a bid of €60m/£52m for Morata which was turned down by Real Madrid.

They want closer to €90m/£78m.

Which is fucking ridiculous. They paid 26mill for his buyback a year ago, and now he's worth triple that? Joke.
Dybala, ok. He's not "potential" he's proved himself. Players at that price have shown far more than Morata.
Aubameyang costs less than that ffs.

So what's your take on Morata you don't rate him?

But yeah I agree £52M should have been at the very top of what United were ready to pay. But if they can't get Lacazette, who are they going to buy? They need a centre forward.

As I said before he's a decent player but the fees quoted for a player who has proved very little are ridiculous.

Yeah well fees have been considered ridiculous since forever.

Truth is that United have a gaping hole in their first eleven, everybody knows it and there are only two or three plausible alternatives out there (Lacazette, Morata, Belotti). They'll get taken to the cleaners wherever they go and even then between the three Morata is the better player. Lacazette's scoring record when you remove the penalties really isn't very impressive and Belotti is unproven to put it nicely and could very well leave the hole still gaping despite coming in.

It's ridiculous but what's their alternative? Rashford or Martial up front and they've got no chance on top four imo.

Where does this idea that Morata is the better player come from?
If his career went exactly the same way but he was on loan from Celta Vigo he'd be considered a 30mill player.
Tell me what he's done that makes him so highly regarded. It's like the many Man Utd players that came through the youth systems that got hype but never proved to be anywhere close to it.
Morata is insanely expensive because he's a Real player and they want top dollar because they need cash. Not because of his ability. If he were a 78mill player he'd have Benzemas place by now.

I think another winger is essential, especially with Coutinho seemingly being played deeper. According to SSN a deal for Martins would be nearly £40m, If that's the case why not just stump up the cash for Salah? He looks to have improved hugely...

You're banging your head against the wall here mate. Nobody is saying Morata is a £78M player, but in the current situation I don't see many better alternatives.

Also, have you ever actually seen Morata play? I'm asking you because I've been over this twice with you and both times you go on and on about numbers without even touching on his actual ability, the things you see when you watch a player. Numbers don't tell the whole story, especially not for a fairly young striker who's not had a proper run of games. Anyway, I listed his qualities when we were over this last time but you seem to think the whole football world has forgot to check his stats on whoscored or something. Nobody is saying that he's the finished article or that he's world class or that Real's asking price is reasonable. What people are saying, and rightly so, is that he's the best bet out of the viable options. And United really, really can't go through this window without buying a number 9. The alternative is Lacazette, who really, really is the lesser player by some distance and you only need to watch Morata a couple of times to see that. Belotti isn't a safe bet, he could go either way and that is a huge risk for United and Mourinho as the latter will surely be sacked if he doesn't make top four, and he sure as hell won't without a proper quality striker.

I thought Salah was done and dusted? I haven't seen much of Martins as I don't watch the Portuguese league especially regularly to say the least but he seems like the classical quick winger.

Goal stats are pretty important for a striker that costs 78mill dont ya think?
I didnt see him play much at Juve when I watched them, not because he wasnt playing but because he was pretty much overshadowed by a younger, much better striker in Dybala that actually looks like a player worthy of that kind of fee.
As I say people, like yourself cite his potential, though he's 24 and is being priced as someone who has already fulfilled that potential.
Your assertion that he's the best bet out out of the available options seems ludicrous. Aubameyang is openly being priced at around 61mill, a proven striker and thats just a start.

Even in this day and the age the prospect of paying nearly £80m for mainly potential is fucking ludicrous.

Hehe na but he'd be easily 100 mill plus for an over 20 goal per season striker who is consistent.
Hes about to suffer 4th season syndrome. Everyone knows this.

You don't need a striker with Martial and Rashford there.

Mourinho doesn't trust Martial and Rashford is 19, we are in desperate need of a striker.

Jose's pragmatism is without warrant though as both are good enough, but you have to make a signing to keep the sponsors happy for a 'big name'.

There's no doubt that our board, sponsors and executive vice-chairman get an erection for the "big names" and we go after ridiculous targets every season but if we don't sign a striker heading into the coming season we are in trouble.

Rashford isn't ready to lead the line yet and we've covered Jose's thoughts on Martial.

Had Ibra not picked up his injury we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I think Morata could be the way to go then if you are wanting a name unless Benzema or even Bale could be let go by Real if they get Mbappe. Other than that with Griezmann off this summer then I'm unsure who you could get that would suffice. Jose tends to like big strong strikers as well so I dunno who else is out there that would fit that mandate.
