He can play wide, but he's better through the middle especially in a front 2. Bit gangly and awkward, on his day he can be a handful.

Good in the air, so if you get decent crosses in he should score a few. Will also win you a lot of free kicks.

Thanks, it would be nice to think we may play with two up front. Looking at our squad before today I'd have said we still needed another attacking midfielder and a pacier forward who is comfortable a bit wider. Hopefully Guthrie can fill that sort of role if he is confirmed, and he's young enough to push on a bit.

Wouldn't play him out wide, not slow but not great pace, really needs to be in a front two. He has a decent enough touch but is not really a traditional target man because he is not overly strong. Alongside a nippy striker he will win flick ons with his head and feet plus free kicks or get into the box to win crosses in the air.

Rumour is we have at least one striker training with us this week, someone supposedly young and did well in this league last season for a play off chasing side. Johnny Margetts is the rumour going about on banter, though I have no idea how reliable this is, or if Margetts is any good, he seems to have had a lot of clubs in a short space of time whilst still scoring goals?
Did great pre-season at Rovers and offered a contract on the back of it. Probably the best forward pairing for us last season was him and Mangan home to Bromley, but after a poor home game v Barrow, he got few chances. Brabin even loaned him out to Southport when we were short of strikers. He had a hip operation at the end of the season, presume fully recovered from that. One or two signs of immaturity off-field, but nothing major. Rumour was we'd offered him a new deal, but never confirmed.

I think he'd be a good player to take a chance on, but unsure at this stage of his career that I'd expect a season transformer unless Cowley can work miracles. Though after last season...

We have taken Isaac Vassell on trial after he left Truro. He's hit 24 in two years down there - so would very much be a back up option behind Blissett and Williams.

Courtney Richards is also back training and set to re-sign for us any day, apparently.

Thanks for that, rumour here was that the player had been offered something at his club but no idea if that is true. I reckon Margetts would be worth a punt, him and Marriott have both got good scoring records as long as they are free of injuries so could be pretty decent with or without transfer listed Rhead.

Margetts was decent for us last season on loan. Wasn't here an awful long time but looked sharp and scored a few goals for us.

He's certainly be a good back-up option in the Conf Prem i would have thought.

Sounds as though James Caton is off elsewhere. I think we were pissing in the wind with that one, personally. Will probably end up in the FL and secondly, I don't think he'd be willing to hang around until we've sorted other areas of the squad and seeing what money was left over for him.

Rumours doing the rounds that Nathan Arnold and Tom Shaw are going to make a return?! Wishful thinking I think as I dont think we could afford either!

Nathan Arnold = far too good for Conf North
Exactly! would be a serious show of unamibition should he re sign for us from his point of view but he does have a very succes Barbers in Grimsby that he doesnt want to give up which is why he was released by Grimsby.

Apparently Jeff Hughes has signed for Tranmere. Good news if true as he would bring a little bit of much needed creativity to our midfield.

He wasn't released he rejected a new contract offer so i would be staggered if he rejected terms to play in League 2 to drop to Conf North, however if true then well done on a great coup he would tear that league to pieces.

Doubt it.
I think Shaw will have a good season for us now Burr has fucked off.

It's no secret Shaw wasn't great for us last season but like RB I think we'll see better from him this year. Burr was using him pretty much as a holding midfielder to allow a weak Rooney to do what he wanted in the middle alongside him. Don't think that's his game at all, his goalscorng record from midfield over the years shows that. McCarthy has seen that as well judging on how he used him whilst caretaker in those last few games.

Ryan Higgins training with Lincoln apparently.

Rejected a new deal here, fortunately.

Confirmed he'll be involved in our friendly tonight, along with Margetts.

Is he shit then?
He started off well, scored a cracker against you season before last but went shit last season for some reason. We were surprised he was even offered a new deal.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he impressed in friendly matches though.

Steve Burr-itus? Am sure the Cowleys know the strengths and weaknesses of any players they get in, even if it's on trial, they usually see players around 10 times before making a firm decision.

Also allegedly having a look at Terry Kennedy from Sheffield Utd, can't find out much about him but he isn't tall if he is a CB at only 5'10"

Don't think we can blame Burr for him failing to complete a pass to another Chester player all season, to be fair.

Not sure why we're looking at another RB because we have Bradley Wood and Lee Beevers.

Beevers isn't really the age that Cowleys want their players but he can cover RB, CB and LB and I don't think we can warrant going into the season with four full backs.

To be honest we've lost 3 big players. Ben Hennighan has been fairly well covered with Hudson and Killock. John Rooney is no great loss (would we have beaten Aldershot 8-2 if he'd been playing?) and we were never going to replace Ross Hannah with like for like. Whoever is RB next season he's going to be a defensive improvement on Higgins.

I cant wait to see how rubbish Rooney is as Chester fans never cease to slag him off. Hopefully he's as bad as Lincoln fans told us Newton and Nolan were. Or Torquay fans and Heslop.
