Obviously I don't know much about your past managers, but FGR were the 2nd best team in the league last season going by the table, that was under Pennock and then because your season fizzled out near the end you sacked him. Was Pennock really that bad?

Awful football, poor man manager. We finished 2nd in spite of him, not because of him.

Cheltenham & Mansfield both played awful football, but they managed to get promoted. Admittedly they both had good strikers (striker in Mansfield's case) but you still have to use them and find them on the pitch. My argument would be that you got 2nd because Pennock picked the right team and used useful tactics to pick up points. All that seemed to be missing from you last season was a really prolific goalscorer to challenge Wright and Holman.

I have been watching this league for long enough to remember plenty of teams who were promoted with a brand of football that was really easy on the eye, Exeter, Crawley, Morecambe, Barnet (the time before last, and the first one all those years ago) and even Stevenage. I agree partly with the above poster about Pennock picking the right team to get a result, but at times it was indeed dreadful to watch, for many of us it is important to win but we also want to be entertained. Fair point about the goalscorer though, we didn't really have anyone near the top of the goalscoring charts, Parkin ran out of steam towards the end of the season, whilst Guthrie and Williams didn't really meet expectations. We have retained most of the defence and midfield from last season, if the new forwards can provide the goods then we might be in business.

Like many other people despite not knowing our budget, he's trying to mislead everyone into thinking our budget is massive.

Saying we're "bankrolled in the extreme" when we didn't have the biggest budget in the league last season and wont this year either, and saying that anyone denying it is deluded when they actually know more then him is not what I'd call being truthful. This reputation is causing problems for our club when it comes to negotiating deals, as clubs, players and agents all think we're a gravy train.

Makes statement that no one knows what FGR's budget is then follows it up with another implying that he knows everyone else's budgets for this season and last. Hypocrisy?

Hope you don't mind me hijacking this reply, he has done ok in two pre season friendlies so far. Know he didn't get good reports from Chester but on the last couple of performances, he seems to have done well enough. Still think our financial priorities lay further forward.

Fenwick only appeared in a handful of games for us, so it's hard to really give an opinion. Quite a lanky midfielder with a decent pass on him. Don't think he was helped by our situation last season - not many good players.

Still fit at 33-34, so don't think that's a worry. Good player, if he hadn't fallen out with Pennock I think we would have gone closer to the title last season. More concerning would be the location, I'd be surprise if he'd be settled having to live/travel to Lincoln. Reportedly one of the reasons for the falling out was missing training.

He has played for Scunthorpe, Mansfield Rushden and Ilkeston in his career, though lately it's been teams further away, maybe locality wouldn't be that much of a problem. What might make it more unlikely is the form of Margetts over the two games he has played, scoring 5 goals.
