Regarding Aaron O'Connor, it sounds like he's a toxic influence when he's not happy with the way things are going. Would the Cowley's really want someone like that in their first season in full time management?
There were plenty of rumours of "bad apples" in our dressing room when Wilkin was here, Dean Keates being the most likely. Whether he feels it's justified or not, it doesn't help the team spirit.

we're close to signing a striker in the next 24-48 hours - doesn't look like it's anyone whose been at pre-season so far - but other than that we've no ideas....

I'm gobsmacked Ben Tomlinson hasn't rocked up at Barrow yet.

I hope we get rid of Rhead to be honest, we could do with the money.

both Rhead and Tomlinson have been mentioned on our forum - but rumours are that Tomlinson's wage demands are too high and there are not enough pies in Barrow to feed Rhead... (ok i just started the Rhead one but it sounds believable ;) )

This is just what Cox has been saying all summer, but because it was on the radio, they're reporting it like it's going to happen - not likely we'll get our "big" name striker this week...

*cough*

He appears to have fallen off the face of the earth. I'd still say it's 50/50 there, as we're still really two strikers short. Can't see any of the trialist strikers being kept on.

Nope

Anyone know much about Leandro Martis, a Portuguese player most recently with Buxton? Of all our triallists, he seems to be the one that Cox actually wants to sign.

We sound fairly far down the line with getting Margetts tied up.

Not in a position to offer Aaron O'Connor anything by the sounds of it, so I assume that's because we're a fair way down the line with Caton, too.

Could cope not getting O'Connor IF it meant getting Margetts and Caton, that's for sure.

Scored a cracking goal for Buxton last Friday against Crewe Alex. Curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box. Looked a really lively and talented player, a quick skilful winger type.

Margetts rumoured to be signing today according to local radio. Would be happy with that after his 5 in 2 games.
What happened with him and Tranmere? I mentioned on another thread that he loves pre season as he scored loads for them in their games last season, so why is he now a free agent?

Lack of chances I think, which isn't too surprising given who the options they had up front last season. Doubt he'd get much of a look in this season either if he didn't do so last season.

He's not played that much really for a 22 year old, but is just about a 1 in 2 striker.

He only got 6 starts at Tranmere with 4 sub appearances still managing 2 goals. Tranmere fans will know more than me but I imagine with the other strikers they had last season and Brabins habit of having certain favourites, Margetts looks like he had limited opportunities?

Had a hip problem which required some bone shaving off hence why he struggled there, fully recovered now.
Bit worried we've signed a few payers with injury problems...

I think it was mentioned by Margetts in the Echo last week that it's a straightforward, easy operation he has done periodically every few years to prevent an injury of the hip. Can't recall what he said exactly.

Oh fair enough. He started for Tranmere in our 2-2 draw at the Racecourse last season and looked quite good, surprised Brabin didn't want to keep him, although, it's Brabin, so maybe I'm not..

Margetts was never officially released so i imagine we offered him a deal, just with reduced terms and he was probably told he was going to be backup. He's not the type of striker who is going to make chances himself, but seems to be pretty good in the 18 yard box with the right service. Can see him scoring goals at Lincoln.

Radio Cumbria saying Cox is unlikely to pursue him - I think he's wanted by a few others

I'd agree with that - give him a strike partner who will do all the donkey work and he'll do well otherwise you might be disappointed.

Lanre Oyebanjo training with us, best right back in the league by a mile last time we were down here, not worked out for him at Crawley.

We've still got some of our trialists from the first three games training with the club ahead of a game vs Forest reserves tomorrow, and Euan Murray (former Motherwell, Stenhousmuir and Western United of the Solomon Islands) is definitely wanted to fill a gap at centre back and left back. And we have someone of this name training with us too: http://oldweb.metroeireann.com/article/timmy-raheem-the-future-of-irish,3839

Exciting times

We're keen on signing Wade Elliott who's been training with us, plus another keeper and maybe another right sided player. That would take us up to 15 new signings which would probably be enough for now given we retained a fair amount of last seasons squad (14).
