I'm not sure really. It seems they just put the figure in the middle of the two valuations but an initial £50k seems too high for a CB IMO. I'd not pay that for him but if it's £50k overall and 20% sell-on, then I think it'll work out decent business.

Pretty sure it'll be disclosed and something appears on the FA website today. There haven't been any figures rumoured at our end.
We've said we'll disclose it as soon as the paperwork is through - today or Monday. It all depends how much substance there was to Cheltenham's supposed offer of £100k, I suspect not a lot as the club denied receiving a formal offer.

I'd be happy with £50k + a sell on %, although we've definitely missed him

Yeah, I'd say that'd be pretty fair if it's £25k then the same in add-ons or something. He's a good player, although I can't see the % being worth that much because you don't see many defenders being flogged for big money down here.

Danny Cowley seems pretty happy with the agreed fee as well.

"He's the best young centre-half in non-league football. He's unbelievable value for money for the club."

Show me a manager that cares about what transfer fees their board pay?
It has nothing to do with the manager, they don't care, they just identify a player they want to sign & hope their board backs them.
The fee the club ends up paying, is irrelevant to the manager. Aslong as he's gets his man, he's happy.

Except he has a budget to work to?
With your logic the manager could demand a championship striker and have no money left to assemble the rest of the team!

If you are telling me his transfer fee came out of a pre-season agreed Budget, then you are a very naive person.
These kind of transfer fees come from "extra money" that boards throw into the pot, they are not part of the original budget.

Or "extra money" earnt from the sale of a player since the start of the season, or "extra money" that's now guaranteed from a cup win?

I would also imagine the board set aside a certain amount in the knowledge we would have to pay at a tribunal. In fact, I think they said this had been done at a recent fans' forum.

The Akinola rumour still in full force at SB, could he be a further addition sometime next week, we are short of numbers up front that's for sure.

If Lincoln are going to sign Akinola then can they hurry up and do it before we play Braintree on Tuesday.

Talk of Rovers getting Adam Dawson from Eastleigh, also Sean Newton's name has been mentioned. Don't know if there's any truth in either?

I could see Newton going for sure. He mourned the passing of his hero Gary Mills, which hasn't gone down well at all. Didn't play in today's game as he'd picked up an "injury", which is the first match he's missed since joining us.

He did the same with us when he was after a move, although he returned for one half of football away at Bristol Rovers and, by all accounts, didn't show up at all as in he wasn't trying and made it blatantly obvious he wasn't.

Disappointing really. Distinct lack of character. Not as if Lincoln fans didn't warn us either. If he can't suck it up and show some professionalism he can sod off.

After his wife ran off to sea he took up with an older gentleman but his silver haired lover has also gone east, leaving him all alone in the unfriendly Welsh hills.
All his moaning about his wife's crabs has come back to haunt him, as he now plays with a whole team of them.

Would say it was a bit more than 25%. A player not far from you Southwell at Boston, obviously Conf North, went to Wycombe I believe and they agreed compensation between them between them at £18K and he had never played in the Conference and was two years older. I reckon it will be £35K/£40K max.
I also do not believe for a second that Cheltenham even made a bid. If they wanted him even half seriously they would have done exactly what you guys did. They chose not to which suggests what to you?

A lot of talk yesterday about a winger coming in tomorrow. All signs point to Adam Dawson of Eastleigh. Rumours he's already told friends and family he's signed.

Mellon wants to add a left back also and currently putting the feelers on Sean Newton of Wrexham who we enquired about in the summer. Mickey Demetriou of Shrewsbury is another mentioned.

Mickey and Lee Vaughan were an amazing full back partnership for us. He'd be a great signing for you.

Can't see Mellon signing Demetriou. He froze him out of the team completely at Shrewsbury. Would be a fantastic signing for any team at Conference or L2 level though.

if Newton went it should certainly free up wages to bring others in, certainly think we have a good enough player to step in at LB in Jordan Evans.
Agree with his comments upon Mills leaving, not the wisest thing to say..

“I can’t believe it,” said Newton. “I got a phone call from Gary and he told me he’d been sacked.

“He wished me all the best and told me and the lads to keep going this season.

“It was such a shock. I’ve got nothing but respect for Gary. He brought me to the club as his first signing, he made me captain in the summer and I know how hard he worked to get things right here.

“The timing of it is bizarre. I’m deflated at the news. The gaffer can’t do anything when we cross that white line and we have to admit that we haven’t worked as hard as we could in some games this season.

“We know how passionate Wrexham fans and Welsh fans are and we need to work harder and that’s what I’ll be telling the lads in the dressing room at Stamford tomorrow.

“I feel really deflated. We were already under pressure going into the FA Cup tie at Stamford.

Ive heard that Newton is off to a team in the division below ( AFC Fylde i believe) so we will see. It may be that there are few teams in for him at this time.

I would imagine that a small fee could be paid if Fylde and Tranmere are the teams in for him.

Very decent player to have around on his day as the Tranmere fans know.

Dawson isnt getting a game at Eastleigh, so wouldnt be surprised to see him go.
An undoubted talent on the ball, but doesnt offer much off it.
I'd keep him though.

Oi Forest Green lot, what are the chances of us keeping Tubbsy for another month? Has scored 3 in 4.

Newton is a spoilt child, who's ego is far bigger than his ability. Not bad at all at set pieces and bombing forward, terrible at his main job ie defending, gets caught far too often for pace and his positional sense is lacking too.

Dunno who you playing next month?

Cooper mentioned in one of his pre match Guiseley interviews that Tubbsy was doing well for you, that he had 3 more games (inc last Saturday) before the loan was up, and that he was hoping he'd be sharpened up ready to push for his place as Coops hasn't been too happy with our forwards output recently. If we run in a few tomorrow and Saturday it might change things though, especially since we've been trying Frear out as a striker a couple of times as well.
