What's he like then?

Surprisingly good with his feet for a taller lad, shields the ball well and therefore can get past defenders quite easily. Prefers the ball on the deck rather than in the air. Good finisher and a grafter which is all you can really ask at this level. A more suitable strike partner would be someone with pace, for example Angus.

Think we’ve realised that and that’s why it looks like we’re giving up on the 352.

When teams defend deep against us (and most did) it’s a complete waste having a 5th tier CB as your spare man when in possession. It also complicated things with Rooney/Madden in big games as we had zero pace centrally and we didn’t trust Rooney from a defensive perspective deeper so we played him as a 10 where he’s rubbish.

Funnily enough, it was switching from 4-3-3/4-4-2 to 3-5-2 that sorted it out for us and got us scoring goals. Although I think a big part of it working was us playing full backs in those wide central defensive positions so they would just run forward with it if left spare when we had the ball.

We had a left back in ours and Hogan who is generally comfortable on the ball but teams quickly worked out that Palmer (who we needed as he was so good in the air) was the man they could leave in space as he didn’t want to dribble out.

Fitting Rooney and Madden into it in the big games was the bigger problem though as we had to have a targetman in Cardwell playing and it meant we had no one running in behind so the better teams could squeeze us and it was all so tight and compact. The only threat in behind was MSH who was our RWB - everybody else was coming towards the ball.

When we played the cannon fodder and knew we would have control, Rooney and Madden moved back a position and Reid came in so we had pace and movement up top but Rusk wouldn’t take the risk against fellow promotion hopefuls hence why we barely scored against any and picked up no wins against you lot, Sutton, Hartlepool and Torquay.

I don't know what the fuck Stockport are playing at but I think they have gone from Officially Going For Itto whatever the top level of accreditation is. Fully agree that they cannot fail win to win the title now.

In other news, Hurst has said we're still on the hunt for another striker. McAtee has been brought in as an attacking mid, not a striker. Luke Hendrie definitely won't be with us next season, but we knew that really anyway after signing two right backs. And Ben Grist is close to getting his move done, whether or not that's Man Utd or Leicester or someone else though, we don't know.

Is he really that good Quigley? Wasn't his only good season at this level the season Barrow went up?

Certainly on loan for us he scored a couple but he didn't look top drawer.

He will probably score goals but I'd hardly be fighting over him.

He scored 15 in a struggling Barrow side in League Two last season as well.

You wouldn’t fight over someone who can lead the line and has scored 35 goals combined over the last two seasons at this level and the one above?

He was decent with us first time but I think he improved while at Barrow. I dont think hes amazing but hes a good bet for goals at this level, alongside Rooney again, and Madden hed definitely make Stockport more potent.

I dont think he's worth 150k

Stockport payed £75k for Rooney who had a year left on his contract and £250k for Madden.
Quigley has/had 2 years left on his contract.

I'm not an expert on players at this level, I've gone to my favourite scout YouTube and he looks just the player we need to be honest. We need someone with a bit of movement, strength, aggression up there. Madden's a clever player, good touch, good finisher in the box but looking at Quigley, he is what we lack to complement Madden and Rooney in our attack.

him and Rooney played together in our title winning team, so Rooney already plays well with him.

Wrexham record signing is £210k, and that was in 1978
Ours is circa 850k for Ian Moore which we recouped from Burnley plus a bit. Whether or not we get Quigley I'm uncertain but I AM CERTAIN we will be getting a high rated striker in before the season starts. I can't really comment on what other seemingly nouveau riche clubs such as Wrexham & Grimsby are going to spend but from what I've seen so far our chairman is the real deal. Not all of our fans agree with everything Stott (chairman) has done and the replacing of Gannon is still a very sore point for many but I think everyone agrees that he really wants the best for the club and will continue to put his (serious) money where his mouth is.

Heard we can't compete with Stockport or Wrexham on wages this season and Stockport in particular are offering much higher wages than Mansfield in lge 2

Nobody can compete with Stockport.

We're not spending our millions.

Every time one of you lot fill up your cars, the Prince of the Gulf States asks Stott to build another apartment block. And then we buy another player.

Start getting the bus and we'd have to get Joe Quigley.
