Yeah I know what you mean. Main point was the variety of goals he's scored this season. Out the box, in the box, tap ins, left foot, right foot, headers. He's proven he can do it all.

Think he's ready for League 2 no problem, he's had to do a lot himself this season so think with better players around him he'll get better again. Got to consider as well, he's currently only training 2 evenings a week. Think there's far more to come from him when he can be in the gym and on the training pitch daily.

We'll be gutted to see him go, but now seems like the right time for the lad to go test himself higher. And we got him tied to a 2 year deal in the summer so should get a decent fee for him. With the number of teams sniffing around could be a bit of a bidding war.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we showed a strong interest.

Following Clarke’s injury, I wouldn’t have been against us making a move for Brunt as he’s in a similar mould. Local lad, fan of the club and all that.

Rowe isn’t a big fan of loan deals at all though so that might be why we’ve not shown any interest in it. I’d imagine if we was, Brunt would jump at that opportunity

Tell the poor man not to go near Notts Mad under any circumstances.

Is he more of a natural centra midfielder btw? Would make me less worried if so, the ones we do have are generally good but we have no real depth there at all so might make some sense.
he’s not a central midfielder as in a 4 or 8 he’s about 4”8 in height. A number 10 or winger

What are you on about you weirdo?
Weirdo is a tad strong. Unique would have been much kinder :D

I was referring to your matches played you have played more than the majority of the league. At least your having a 3 week break give us all chance to catch up

6 clubs have played 22 games. The rest of you need to get your fingers out, its January and you've only played 19 games- if you start having to postpone games in January/February for covid/weather etc you are going to have a heavy schedule in the last 3 months.

We've played 20 and 21 by the end of Tomorrow.
Infact if our games scheduled go ahead by the time you next play in the league we'll have played 1 more game than you.

Knew I had heard of Brunt before. He was on that BT sport documentary when playing for Matlock town. He has been at various top level academies. How good is he?

I think he's got plenty of natural ability, but he's nowhere near as good as him or his dad think he is, otherwise he wouldn't be mucking at non league level at the age of 20 after being on the books at some top clubs. You'd have expected him to have kicked on a bit by now, at least had an appearance or 2 for Sheff Utd

He strikes me as one of those players that can do every trick going but put them in a match and they just Go missing.

My opinion is he’s decent enough for this level. Overrated at ours because he’s the first bit of quality we’ve seen in 3 years in a Southend shirt

Potentially but you'd probably have to pay a fee. Since coming back from illness Challinor has almost immediately got him back into matchday squads. He's not an starter for us and he's a great lad part of the squad but if there was good money offered we may consider.
Cheers, was just thinking of Hurst type players that fit the realistic option category. Absolutely nothing in it. I guess one thing that might also be a factor is the player feeling a loyalty towards the club that stuck by him during his health problems.

Yeah potentially he might be. Last season Pre-cancer he was very poor (obviously we don’t how much that was potentially due to illness) and the rumour was Gannon wanted to get rid of him and replace him with Warburton but the DOF wanted a bigger name and we eventually got Madden.

It kind of feels he needs some regular games at this point but Quigley, Madden and Crankshaw are ahead of him and we’ve been on the lookout for a back-up targetman all season so should imagine we’ll bring one in at some point which would see him struggle to make the 16 when everybody is fit.

While Jennings might leave I would imagine Alex Reid is even more likely to depart.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Would he want to potentially further down the pecking order should you sign someone else and I'm guessing forwards are always gonna be on the radar of a club looking to go up, not least ones with decent budgets.

Makes me sad when proper clubs fall from grace so quickly. You'll be back though mate, just a matter of time. Shit, I remember being stood on the kop at Saltergate absolutely shaking it whenever Freddie Eastwood went anywhere near the ball (was that his name? Striker with a bit of a buzz cut).

Strong rumours that Harry Panayiatou is returning to us - got released from Livingston a couple of weeks ago and was at the game yesterday. Probably means Corie Andrews is heading back to AFC Wimbledon.

Yep, that was him. What a game at Saltergate that was...we won 4-3 and the lead changed 4 times.

When we beat Man U the next season from an Eastwood free kick, Ferguson said he'd never score a goal like that in his career. Fact was he already had at Saltergate in that game.

Maybe reading too much into Hurst post match but got the impression he won't be looking to keep Alex Hunt for the rest of the season.

Remember that game, think one of our players got (harshly?) sent off when it was 2-2 or something, want to say either Kovacs or Niven.

I thought you lot rated him?

Can't comment much, as I haven't seen many games, will let others agree or disagree, he did well when we were winning, but I get the impression he has looked lost since our form dipped, and his set pieces (one of his strengths, particularly corners) have definitely gone very wayward in the last 10 or so games.

Maybe he is more of a luxury we don't need right now and certainly a player that is better when they have more time on the ball you don't get at this level.

I might be wrong, just got the impression from Hurst answer to the question that he was looking at other players and so can't afford to have Hunt as a loanee right now.

Kovacs got sent off for one of the harshest handball reds you could ever see.

Only reason I know this is I watched back that season's DVD after we got relegated yet again last May.

Yep remember you having a guy sent off. Pitch was quite slippy underfoot and I seem to recall McFarland critsing the ref for not taking that into account? I could be wrong though

We had a similar ding ding battle to that at Saltergate in our League 1 relegation season in 2004, it went 1-0 Chesterfield, then 2-1 to us, then 3-2 to Chesterfield, then we went 4-3 up right near the end and by this point Chesterfield were also down to 10 men and we still managed to fuck it up and give them an injury time pen to make it 4-4.
We ended up getting relegated by 1 point and the team that pipped us by 1 point to stay up - Chesterfield.

Brunt all over the local press in Southend, Sheffield and Nottingham now, so looks like it’s probably a goer. One where I’m happy as long as it’s not to replace someone!

Ahh that was it! Glad to know the memory hasn't completely gone.

Edit: Found it. The red was at 1-0....looked like he headed it!

Double edit: Actually watching it again, probably his chest.

Going to say, does this mean a Roberts / Rodrigues could be on their way ? :dk:
