Well,

We have made contact with Shola Ameobis agent about a move.

Also we are in for Toby Ajala and Nyal Bell. Torquay/Dover/Chester fans are these two any good?

Toby Ajala was good for us in 2014/15 but wasn't the same player when he returned in January. We're not too disappointed that he turned down our offer.

On form he is good enough though. Like most wingers at this level consistency is an issue but he was very good for us in 14/15 and on that form he'd be a good signing - though he's strughled at both Dover and Torquay since.

If he offers you brother Tomi, just say no, even though you are rivals I wouldn't wish you the pain. The man came to us as a striker, but was often the player left back when we went up for corners, I think my granny would have been a better option.

Only made a few sub appearances, looked handy but inexperienced and by no means a finished article.

His ball control was unbelievable. Never seen a ball bounce off someone and pick up speed so often. Every second touch was a tackle as they say, although with him it wasn't cos he didn't get there let alone tackle.

I'm getting really worried about these John Rooney rumours. Heard a few people who tend to know what is happening at Chester say it's on.

What happens if Gateshead have a mediocre season? Going to have a whole squad under contract who they can't shift.

They are making the mistake we often have, handing out long term contracts left right and centre to average players. You end up lumbered with players you don't want.

Much better an initial one year deal with an option to extend if certain targets are met.

This. I'm reading Wrexham fans saying how we should be offering two year deals, but to be honest I wouldn't have wanted to be stuck with any of the players we had last season, apart from maybe Taylor, even though there is no proof that we didn't offer him one and it's more that he just wants a bit more relocation money, which is understandable.

The thing is most players at this level are much of a muchness and easily replaceable, so if you do end up losing one or two there are loads out there who can do the same job. Two year deals should only be for players who might attract enough interest to get you a fee in the future, which very few will.

What happens if Gateshead have a mediocre season? Going to have a lot of players under contract who they can't shift. Have they got the backing to be able to afford that?

They are making the mistake we often have, handing out long term contracts left right and centre to average players. Luckily we could afford to carry a huge squad and/or pay players we didn't want off. Been more sensible since Hockaday left. Only players you know are virtually guaranteed to perform should get more then a year imo.

If? They'll be 8th. They are busy assembling our entire 8th placed squad and will finish as the 8th best team in the league.

Meanwhile, at the Sin Siro...

The Cowleys are away on holiday at the minute, back in Lincoln on Monday. This time last season we'd just about signed everyone I think!

Wouldn't surprise me if the Cowleys are back off holiday to take in the England C game Sunday, the only 3 players we have genuinely been linked with are all involved!

We have apparently signed 2 new players - but the signings won't be announced until after the weekend, and 1 or more of them is allegedly in the England C squad. One is a 6'3" up and coming Central defender and the other an established Central Midfielder.
If I was to guess the midfield guy may be Clay? (or Deverdics?)
Other than Heneghan which of the following are central defenders.... Sam Habergham (Braintree Town), James Bolton (FC Halifax Town), Joe Leesley (Alfreton Town), Sean Raggett (Dover Athletic)......

Deverdics is now being linked with the Heed 2 year deal

Shola Ameobi is going to sign for us. I can't see how this is a good thing unless it is a coach but he is going to want a wedge as well

Bolton's gone to Gateshead, would imagine Habergham will go to Lincoln and Raggett is Football League bound (surely).

So would imagine Leesley is the one

Habergham is a LB anyway, not a CB.

Wait, I've just read the posts on our forum again, and it says C Defender, as in central defender! It's another poster entirely going on about the England squad.
I doubt the two we've allegedly signed have got any involvement with the ENgland C team.

Someone on our site reckons we are close to signing Curtis Tilt from Telford.

No idea.

Looked him up and Gary Neville has been ringing him up trying to get him to join Salford. Does that mean he's decent?

He's left footed, so this would be the replacement for Fyfield. And, if it is true, we'd have four centre backs, which suggest to me that Mills will be going into next season with 3 at the back. Although Bencherif and Edwards can play midfield and Riley will obviously be injured most of the time.

Yeah no idea if there is any truth in the rumour but it's the sort of signing we should be making for defence. Bencherif and Riley are experienced in this league, Edwards will be out to prove himself and a good young prospect would make a decent fourth.

Sounds like Bencherif plays best as part of a three, it allows Mrs Nolan to get forward a bit more as well so I'd be happy with 3 at the back.
