It's Jason Shackell not fucking Fabio Canavarro!

Sounds like you're trying to convince yourselves as much as us that £2,5m on a 31 year old defender is good business.

Oh it's ridiculous money, but given our defensive frailties he's just what we need. I quite like the idea of him and Keogh at the back, although there's talk of Keogh leaving so...

If we want someone, Sam Rush WILL get him.

Amazing to get Shackell back in assuming it all goes through. Extremely reliable ITK'er SDSR says it's 2.5m, with promotion bonuses.

Suddenly I feel much more comfortable with our defence.

If I'm being greedy I would like another RB to come in, but I'm delighted with the team at the minute. Good experience, good balance and a lot of ability.

I guess it depends on your opinion. My opinion is that he's among the top centre backs at this level for next season, so I'm delighted with it. I wanted a defender to improve us for this season, not a defender that could improve us in three years. I'm also not fussed about the price, as I assume the club don't. He will come in as captain, he will come in as our first choice defender and he will play a large part of our season.

£2.5m for a player who will be that important to us for next season is not a lot of money.

Looks good on paper, will be interesting to see how it fits together. A lot of players with no experience of English football is a risk.

I'm surprised how much money they're spending though, must be at about £5m now, without any sales to pay for them. Though seems to be a lot of clubs that are spending bucketloads this Summer. It's like everyone senses FFP won't be around much longer.
Probably not far off. I make it around £4m so far. We've signed Bjelland (£1.7m), Vibe (£1m), McEachran (£700k), Barbet (£500k), Kerschbaumer (£300k), Gogia (Free) and Williams (Free). I reckon we'll see another striker come in permanently, hopefully Hoffman at £800k, and then anything else would be loans.

So far we've released or had the loan end of about 10 players. We're also getting about £500k for Mawson, we got £1m for Grigg, though a little bit less due to a sell on fee.

I imagine we'll sell a couple more fringe players, and the overall net spend will be about £3m, which isn't too bad. Certainly less than a lot of clubs in this league.

Are people genuinely happy with signing no mark, unknown foreigners for £1m+?

They're only no mark because they're not in the media or have been seen by average joe.

Doesn't make them good players, and it doesn't make them bad. I do have to admit that the success rate seems to be quite low though.

Veldwijk couldn't hit water from a boat at Forest, yet has six goals in five games since moving back to Holland. Albentosa looked foul in a Derby shirt, but won huge praise in La Liga and just earned a loan move to a top half La Liga side.

I'd always be skeptical about players coming from abroad, but that's not to say they won't do well. I just think for every 1 success story, there seems to be 4-5 failures.

Veldwijk is scoring for fun again. Not sure if he just loves Holland or its infinitely shitter over there, but he looked utterly dreadful here.

A year ago you could have described Jota that way, and he was one of the best Championship signings last year.

I wouldn't describe our signings as unknown either. Bjelland has captained FC Twente and Denmark, Vibe is also a Danish International, and was linked with Schalke earlier in the year.

I trust our model and scouting system, hasn't led us wrong so far.

I need to get used to the new look Championship finances, was only a few seasons ago that a net spend of £3m+ was considered splashing the cash.

Though I don't think 'lots' of clubs will spend £3m+ net, 5 or 6 clubs maybe?

Was Jota the only foreign player you signed last season?

£20 for a round 1 cup game. Disgraceful. Have a word with them M-Dogg!

Sadly 20 quid for a competetive match nowadays represents good business.

Stupid really as we will probably get about 10-12k for this.

Half the prices and we would hit 20k easily and suddenly its a much better match with a bit of atmosphere.

The only place I've seen his wages quoted, in the Telegraph before the article on the URL got changed, said that he's on 25k-a-week. He was on 18k-a-week here last season, so it seems reasonable.

That's £2.6m over the course of his two year contract - that's hardly eye watering at this level.

Fair enough. Thought he would be on more than that as Villa had him on 65k

We got a guy called Betinho on loan from Sporting Lisbon, meant for our development squad though so not surprising he barely played. And a guy called Tebar on a free, who admittedly hasn't worked out so far, but mainly through injuries.

Everyone else was already playing in England. Well, apart from Lewis Macleod, but he's not really foreign.

We've signed a lot more foreigners this season, not expecting them all to do well, but I think we are being very smart and economical with our buys.

We've just signed former Spurs and Barcelona youngster Christian Ceballos.

Like all of our signings this summer, it could either be a great signing or an absolute stinker.

Appears we are very close to signing Garbutt on loan for the season. Desperately needing a left back so this would be great

Philipp Hoffman confirmed on a 3 year deal. Looks to be a real coup for us, amazing stuff!

He is the guy who scored both of Germanys goals in this game.

Jack Harper signing for Brighton from Real Madrid is a weird one. He looks top class from what I've seen of him.
Seems to have generated quite a lot of interest. I do recall the name I think from when he first signed for Madrid. Again, another exciting prospect for the future and a bit of a coup by the looks of it. We'll be ready to rip this league a new one.. in about 2019. Just got to hope we we're able to get by in the Championship until then, as the 'here-and-now' side of the playing staff is still lacking somewhat. (may all change in the next few weeks, but I have growing doubts)

Nice - another wonderfully named African Championship left-back, to add to our recent addition in Gaetan Bong.

To be fair, you probably won't be seeing many of them either....

Don't think that's the right gaff Herts, the sun has never shone like that in Burnley.

Brentford have done some great business so far. A German under 21 international striker for 800k and Josh McEachran for 700k.

Meanwhile at Wolves we spend 2m on fucking Conor Coady...

We've now lost arguably our 3 most valuable players from last season. Any dreams of an immediate return to the big time are quickly fading.

The silver lining to this is that Michael Keane should get an opportunity now. He certainly deserves it.

Delighted with Hoffman joining, a striker completely different to what we already have.

Vibe has also been announced as joining us by his club. Think that must be us done, maybe a DM or a right back, but nothing major.
