hmmm, not so keen on that

I'd take him, has shown he can be a good player at this level but it hasn't worked out for him at Wigan. Similar story to Beckford where a change of scenery could revive his career.

Fair point, he's meant to be pretty quick as well which is exactly what we need at the back.

Helped Cardiff to the PL, experienced, gets the odd goal, decent if you ask me, for what PNE are hoping to achieve this season it's a no brainer.

Told you he didn't want to sign for you. Was quite funny how defensive you got JJH, despite all those media reports.

Gayle will clearly move on, but it won't be to Bristol City. Not unless you offer him a ridiculous amount of money, anyway. Which if you had, he would have signed already.

Agent "see what they (Bristol C) have to say"
Gayle "Wherz Bristul, is it near Croydon?"
Agent "just outside London Dwight, hear em out"
Gayle "ok, may get a pay rise"
Agent "exactly, i'll ring Fulham and QPR on the blower whilst you make the trip"
Gayle "sound"

2 hours later
Gayle "just outside, i'm nearly in fecking Wales, and they speak funny too, that Cotterill fella sounds daft"
Agent "Still waiting for QPR and Fulham to come back, Norwich said they want you"
Gayle "I'll stall, say i'm thinking about it, but it's a fecking no"

It's obvious his agent is trying to get him a deal elsewhere, which is understandably what he'll want, but whether Palace will sell to anyone else because of the Bolasie situation is another matter.

I think we should nip it in the bud now. I understand the 'he needs time to think about his career' but it's not about that, he's just holding out for a better move.

Time to move onto the next one, as long as it's not £9m for Andre fucking Gray.

All the media reports weren't, and still aren't pointing to one solution though.

I didn't for one second suggest that I think he would or will be signing, but like I said, it's not/wasn't beyond the realms of possibility. Different media outlets are saying different things. ESPN reported that he snubbed us two days ago, when SC was yet to contact agent, representative or player, The Sun and Mail are reporting we're off Gayle and onto Gray, and BBC Bristol and Palace's local paper are suggesting that he'll come to a decision fairly soon.

I'm under no illusions we'd be his first choice, as he's quite obviously holding out for a bigger move, and I'm not sure I'm quite comfortable with us being the 'fall back on' option, but I sure know that I'd love to have him here in the Championship, however unlikely that may be.

Ha, who changed the thread title

Have to agree about Gray. The fee's insane enough for Gayle but to spend more on imo a lesser quality player (certainly much less clinical) would be crazy.

Imagine he's the guy we came out and said we were quoted £7m for last month. That soundbite was intended to display how ridiculous the market is at the minute and why we hadn't got in as many players as we'd have liked. So to go back and pay it a few weeks later would seem a little desperate to me.

We've offered Gayle huge money apparently. Seems there's more to it than that, he doesn't want to drop down a level, especially to a club that over history have continued to yo-yo with the 3rd tier

Maxime Collin has touched down in Heathrow (photos on Twitter from his agent) with Tweet also confirming he's here for a medical.

Fingers crossed deal is completed today / tomorrow and he can play on the weekend.

Why have you changed it back?

On topic now, we've apparently had a loan bid rejected for Alex Pritchard. Shame if true.

Hearing similar things from our side. There's still a chance he might be loaned out (hopefully to us) but decision won't be made until the end of the transfer window.

Rumours we've accepted a bid of £3.5m for Tarkowski from Fulham. Not sure August could get much worse for us!

Would be gutted to see him leave. Massive shame that we manage to hold onto most of our team for the whole summer, then see a lot of them leave right at the end. £3.5m is a lot of money though for someone who might not be first choice, but he does have lots of potential. Really do think he'll make a very good PL defender one day.

Tarkowski would have stayed, apparently, but he's been suffering from vertigo climbing out of some of the canyons in your pitch.

Club have announced Bjelland is definitely out for the rest of the season, the one major improvement in our team now won't play any part :(

Expect us to sign someone on loan, but given all the injuries we have, and players leaving, I can't see any chance of us hitting the play offs now. Such a shame as a month ago we looked in so much better shape. Everything since the Stoke friendly win has gone wrong!

Also expect the media and fans of rival clubs to jump on the "Brentford's stats model doesn't work" after we struggle through periods of this season, but it really won't be the manager or owners fault. Can't plan for this much bad luck.

Every club has injury problems. In 2013/14 I think the least amount of first team players we had injured at one time was five. I think for one fixture we had 12 first team players out injured or suspended.

Am I right in thinking that Brentford got pretty lucky last year with very few injuries?

Last season we had our first choice striking recruit Hogan miss the season with an ACL injury - ironically it was this injury that led to Gray getting a run in the first team from the off, but it left us with so few options up top.

We then bougth MacLeod from Rangers for £1m, and through various unfortunate injuries he still hasn't made his debut. After such a strong season the year before Sam Saunder barely played through injury, and then went on loan at the end of the season to pick up fitness.

Also lost Alan Judge for a couple of months - second highest assists in the league last season - and our form dropped a fair bit with him out of the side, and rushed him back in...

So we had a few long-term lay-offs, but the core of our side (Button, Dean, Douglas, Pritchard, Jota, Gray, etc.) stayed fit, which helped enormously. Now with Hogan, MacLeod, Bjelland, McEachran, etc. out for lengthy spells, we've got a bit of a challenge on our hands to replicate our form of last season.

Why would Gayle consider going to Bristol City? He could end up playing league one football next season

Jamie Murphy to Brighton seems more and more likely...no idea what to think about that if true, wins games on his own when he plays well but otherwise you may as well just have 10 players on the pitch. Most Blades are loosing it at thet hought of it though, I'm clearly in a minority that thinks he's overrated and that 1.5-2mill (rumoured) is a reasonable fee for him.

ANybody want to give us a replacement if hed oes go though cos Woolford is shit :10:

Kenny Jackett says it's unlikely that we'll make any more signings. Shame that it doesn't look like we'll spend any money to replace Sako, but I think we have enough already, and Ojo seems to fit in well into his position.
