I would love Reading to sign more younger players but the problem is that they stop the development of our academy players by taking their spot. The problem then is that we're either signing players who are supposedly at their peak (so most expensive) or past it. And i'd rather have a full team of homegrown players than cheaper profitable youngsters.

The players we produce just end up playing for the likes of Bury and Fleetwood so we don't have that problem.

It's just a shame we don't keep hold of more of ours tbh. We could easily build a top half table Championship starting 11 and bench with just our youth players but they end up leaving because they are either too good or too expensive. Tend to be more loyal at least and I like to see them develop in their careers even if they leave.

Last season we had 19 players who came through our academy play for our first team, this season it has only been 7.

Bristol City favourites again to sign Zach Clough at 1/2

Edge of your seat action this is...
Thrilling...

Can't be bothered to keep up with it anymore, it's dragging on far too long.

If he hasn't made a decision by tonight then move onto the next one.

Apparently we've enquires about George Moncur. Please let that happen, I beg we sign him. MK Dons legend.

Ive heard we have had a bid accepted for him but it might be bollox, few teams after him so we see what happens.

Some talk we're making a double bid for Sawyers and Henry from Walsall, massively doubt that Henry would join only to sit on the bench though.

Tarky wants to move to Burnley, so expect to see that go through this month. £5m and we'll sell I reckon. Gutted as he will definitely play PL some day.

Still rumours that Judge, Jota and Diagouraga will all leave too. Such a shame that such a talented squad is being pulled apart, but if the money is right...

Linked with Steve Sidwell.

I would literally break my cock if that happened. Best all round player I've ever seen in a Reading shirt.

Didn't know he was at Stoke. Is he part of the squad on matchdays? not noticed him on the bench but then I only see them on match of the day. Remember being desperate for Wolves to get him before he went to Fulham as we typically wanted to pay him 1/5th of what everyone else wanted to.

On Sam Johnstone, if £3m is being quoted and Utd won't budge (would like us try £1.5m- £2m upfront with add ons to £3m) , given how inflated fees are now, £3m for a 22 year old who could potentially be our keeper for 8 years plus or sell on for a high amount wouldn't be such a bad thing potentially, from the times I've seen him he's got big potential.

For us? Given clubs know we're desperate and going foreign would be a bad move Imo due to the potential immediate communication problems. Unless we could do a loan with view to buy deal with Utd.

Not at his age, could potentially become someone's keeper for the next decade.

Taking ages to think over the move? Reminds me of a certain Crystal Palace striker from last summer.... ;)

From sources close to the club it looks like we've turned our attention to Jason Cummings of Hibernian. Think we were/are unwilling to match Bolton's asking price.

Henry is off to the PL, he won't be sitting on anyone's bench in the Championship, not unless you are happy to pay farcical money and he wants to go to the Championship instead of a PL club, which I would doubt. At 18, with a 5 year contract in his first debut season and with all the scouts that have been watching him - you would be talking £2-3m for him. I do wonder if Smith may test the water though. You also have to factor in that, our boardroom will be even less inclined to deal with Brentford after the Smith/Grigg ordeal.

That sounds arsey, it's not meant to be at all. Sawyers, I wouldn't be surprised about though. Could easily play in the Championship.

Have another think, do you not think I meant if you get him and we don't?
Brain moment.

Well, we already know we have very little money. Robinson got offered to use next years budget for January and he refused it. But they will probably release some funds now with the incentive of playing Chelsea.

It's a fair enough comment :) But I think most owners realise that one club's £ is just the same as another's. There's a difference in a club not wanting to cough up a fee as a tribunal is on the cards, than a club farting about over a fee just for the sake of it (i.e. conducting the transfer through the media, make increasingly lower offers (yes, Mr Bruce...), etc.).

I thought Henry looked very tidy on Saturday, and although it was apparently an off game for him, he looks to have bundles of potential. I can't see him joining us as our current left back, Bidwell, is the team captain and therefore Henry would unlikely get a game - therefore wouldn't want to join us on that basis. That said, Spurs and West Ham were apparently after Odubajo a couple of years ago and the Orient fans were adamant that they were going to lose him to a Premier League side, yet we managed to bag him. So a bid for Henry wouldn't entirely surprise me.

Well done on Satuday btw, good win for you guys.

Signed our 2nd winger from Swindon in 6 months, someone called Will Randall. He'll go straight into the U21 setup though.

good signing, we were down to a mere 5 prospect wingers before this.

Nakhi Wells linked by some Yorkshire pudding rag, is he available for 900k mad wanting 1980s level wages? If so consider it genuine.
