We did that last summer and managed to survive.
We played the loan system very well to get us out of trouble, that's not available this year though.
I agree we massively cocked it up last summer though.

The Greg Cunningham link has come from that HITC website, so...lol.

They've been fairly reliable for us from what I've noticed.

HITC was the site that said we were getting Ajax's captain in January ...

Even if we sign the Icelandic guy we have 3 first team centre backs, need another one at least and Ekstrand won't command a transfer fee so a sensible option alongside Magnusson costing a couple of million.

For the last three years, with Steve Evans in charge of the close season transfers, we signed about 80 players and almost every one on here said we should lose the scatter gun approach and go in for a bit more quality.

Now we should lower our sites apparently.
Can't win.

I think it was tongue in cheek in reference to when SERNWA's commented on players that have turned us down in the past, but I stand to be corrected...

Yeah, think you've been targeting the right kind of players but are finding getting them over the line much tougher. No shame in that. Us and Bristol City see a lot of deals fall through. We tend to do ours behind closed doors though while everything at Bristol seems to be out in the open

Yeah just saw that. Pete O'Rourke quoted that as his source ffs.

He works for HITC doesn't he? When that site first went up every rumour they came up with was bollocks but they certainly get a fair bit right now. They were the first site to announce we had sacked Cotterill, a good hour before anyone else.

In my experience HITC has good sources, but they jump the gun in order to get early stories which causes them to be wrong.

Aston Villa may well be interested in Cunningham, but interest is all it may be despite them reporting it differently.

Cousins joined QPR for £1.5m. Shame I'd have liked him here, just the kind of player we need and a very good price.

Couple of decent good value deals for young players QPR have done. Fuckin hate them so it's really annoying

Benfica’s Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca – who has previously been valued at £21m is due to be the first of many new recruits through the door.

Benfica's Pele, as well as winger Helder Costa also set to join

Monaco’s Portguese winger Ivan Cavaleiro, formerly of (you guessed it) Benfica has also been linked, with his missus said to have ‘confirmed’ the deal on Snapchat last week.

Never heard of any of them in all honesty.

While he's a bit of an unknown I'm happy with that, Juve are generally pretty solid with defenders

Good news for us, hopefully. Why City persist in putting £Undisclosed on everything when it's been made public that it's 3M is slightly odd but they must have their reasons.
Secondly, I'm glad I don't support the team Juve got him from, I can't even pronounce it, Knattspyrnufelagio Fram. :eyes:

£3m or €3m though, pretty sure none of the reports actually gave a currency, and there's £500k difference between the two.

Euros I'd take a guess at, £3m would smash our transfer record by a good £700k.

So Magnusson £2.5m, Tomlin £2m, O'Neill and Brownhill so far, good recruitment so far, another CB, ST and RB needed really, O'Dowda linked to coming in and we could be set for a good season, let Newcastle and a couple of other big hitters bugger off and things could be interesting next season after more recruitment.... (yes I am looking almost 2 years in advance here)

What a complete change to last season. We are still a couple short, but by the sounds of it they arnt too far away.

At this rate I'll be looking at top ten minimum. And I'm a pessimistic sod.

I know this defender is relatively unknown but he has decent pedigree and is still young.

Bring on August 7.

Been a few days without any murmurs or links :dis:. The Hanley saga seems to have gone a tad quiet too which I just wanted to wrap up as we're in pretty dire straights at the back.

Wonder if you guys may see our bringing in Magnusson as a reason to try and get Flint

They seemingly won't pay £6m for Hanley, they won't be paying £8m for Flint.

No one will, no chance he's worth £8 million.
I've heard from someone with decent contacts that the club wouldn't be selling him unless the offer was touching £10m. Don't think he is worth that much, but long contract and one of only 3 CBs. We're looking to bring another in so the fee would have to cover his replacement and help towards a new signing as well as that.
