Some more chatter again about Matt Macey signing. Free agent I believe having most recently been with Hibernian.

As mentioned above I think, we had him before and I wasn’t overly impressed but you’d hope he has improved a bit since then as was very young at the time! That or you hope he’s the 2nd choice/backup as we do need 2 keepers this summer

Benik Afobe is this week’s linked striker .

Was Dwight Gayle and Lucas Joao before .

Probably sign none of these Championship forwards and end up with a guy from Udinese .

Looks like Luton are about to sign Matt Macey from Hibernian for £100,000.

Didn't realise we were paying a fee, albeit 100k not a huge amount.

Really hoping hes significantly better than last time around, he wasn't as bad as Moore who was here at the same time but...... it wasnt exactly a spell that left you hoping to see him come back.... ill put it that way.

£100k ...not being a large amount??
i can remember back in 1976 one of our best/star midfielders PETER ANDERSON was sold to royal antwerp for £80 odd thousand in an emergency to stave off imminent bankruptcy... how times have changed...

For the level we are its pretty low but us paying a fee for anyone is sort of relatively big news i guess! Although we have been spending a few 100ks here and there on a few recently.

For your example that 80k for Anderson is about 450k in todays money i think.

Matt Macey was one of the worst keepers we’ve had for a long time.

Yes i remember when he was with you he wasn't exactly...well received! Although i remember him making an excellent save for you at Home Park in 18/19, great save to deny Collins what looked a certain goal. I also remember watching EFL highlights and taking a vague interest as he used to play for us and seeing real bad mistakes being made.

Still ive been snooping around Hibs fans forums and they seem to be reasonably complimentary of him without being upset he is seemingly going. Doesn't particularly enthuse though when the clubs he has played for at best think he is okbut happy to pocket 100k and move on, and at worst think he is the worst keeper to have played for them! Seems a similar type to our old keeper Sluga IMO, can make the odd great save but almost as prone to dropping a bollock as well.

You see PNE, a not massively dissimilar club budget wise looking at a keeper like Woodman and us signing Macey and think....hmm.

Cauley Woodrow back to Luton. He has something about him. Not sure we’d get a sell on fee…

Ive liked Doughty from his Charlton days. As you all know im excited to have an attacking option from lwb. Excellent. Bell can slot into the lch. Woodrow not bad either.

We were linked with him when he was at Charlton after they were relegated but missed out that time. Pretty enthusiastic about this signing especially on a permanent deal, exactly the sort of type of player in terms of age and potential we should be looking at.

Wonder what this may mean for Potts, with Bell and Doughty probably far ahead of him in the LWB slot, I wonder if he is seen as the left sided centre half to replace Naismith or even if he might be one to go out the door. Could really see either happening.

Hylton looks like he might be off to Northampton. Sad if it happens as he has been such a fantastic player for us, but probably the best time for all parties you think.

Just noted the Woodrow link Kenny posted above, I think that would be a decent one. If we keep Adebayo forwards to pick from being him, Cornick, Jerome feels quite decent for us.

Or it's just a misunderstanding and Bristol City assumed that Kal was keeping his old club up to date... which he was. And considering his contract was at an end, do Luton have any right to know?

I think it’s more the fact they didn’t tell us when they were announcing it. Just from other signings you see of players who are under contract offer, clubs put out the news the player is leaving at the same time the new club announces it. Instead they dropped the news on a Friday night without telling us so we didn’t have anything prepped for it.

I think it’s pretty minor in the grand scheme of it and the club probably should have just taken the high road about it, but it does seem to be what happens between clubs for the most part and didn’t happen in that case

Hylton officially gone to Northampton. Bit of an end of an era, hugely talismanic like figure especially early in NJs time here. Was unbelievable really in those first 2 seasons but injuries and stuff caught up a bit. Still put in a solid season last season but he’s got himself a 2 year deal so right for all parties. I’ll miss him but it’s the right time, he was pure entertainment at times.

Looks like Woodrow will be his replacement which feels a decent upgrade.

I see you sold Hernandez to Columbus Crew as well for 9 million to which the natives were not particularly happy with given he made some good appearances last season.

Pedro is still there isn’t he?

I was impressed with what i read from Watfords head of recruitment on selling Hernandez, in that Edwards wants better squad bonding and stronger local ties with more homegrown players. Had me worried as sounds sensible. Then they go and make a 'Watford' signing

We do love an ex Barnsley player! Although I think this is the first one of this particular crop we have signed directly?

Quite like it, with 5 subs available this season having him as an option to rotate with Adebayo, Cornick and Jerome feels quite good and probably a step up from Hylton. Although with Dan gone, Woodrow taking the number 10 the number 9 shirt is open…could go for another?

Yes - seems he wanted to go and we get a good fee but sad to lose a young player and as BH says just go down the same route to find a replacement.

Very predictable.

Freddie Woodman Confirmed. 3 year deal, undisclosed fee.

Very happy with that one, only 25, so potentially lots of re-sale value for a keeper.

20 clean sheets in this league for Swansea a year ago. Don't think we could have expected anyone better on our budget.

Sounds like Mike Marsh, our assistant played a big part in this one, who worked with him at Swansea.

Josh Oluwayemi, 21yr old who has been released from Spurs has been mentioned as an option as our backup keeper. Supposedly Mourinho was a fan of him and there was talk of him heading to Roma.

Another keeper mentioned, Benjamin Siegrist, has just joined Celtic on a 4 year deal.

Can only assume talks with Andre Gray have stalled as it's been reported we've enquired about Nakhi Wells at Bristol City.

Luton Town have signed Matt Macey from Hibernian for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £100,000.

I suspect he will be a backup: “We’ve made the decision to sign two established keepers, along with Harry and Sheasy, but two that are young enough to work with and develop."

It’s ok if he’s a back up but wasn’t that impressed last time we had him (although from his comments NJ has a different view!) and he’s done ok at best since leaving us but by and large we get recruitment right so will try to put any bias against him to one side.

You’ve got to feel a bit for Isted if Macey is the back up. Could have bumped Isted up to second choice with an established keeper as the number 1 whilst bringing in a younger keeper to be the number 3, as we saw last season with the way emergency loans work that number 3 is realistically not going to play.

Doesn’t feel like Isted is viewed as anything other than an absolute last resort. Still, worse gigs to get than an established 3rd choice keeer at a championship club I guess.
