Sorry to bother you Championship people before we, hopefully, get here.
Rumours on our (BCFC) forum that we are after Lewis McGuigan as Watford want shot of him.
1. Is the 'we want rid' true Hornets?
2. Why do you want rid?
3. Is he any good anymore or gone all Billy big bollocks?

Since he's been out on loan at Sheff Wed, I would say it's safe to assume they don't want/need him.

And he won't be heading to Bristol, unless you offer ridiculous money as he wants a move closer to home.

Aye we've apparently struck a deal, in principle, with player and club to bring him here. Quality footballer.

Signed Nathan Ake on loan for a month. Steve Clarke is certainly pulling the strings at Chelsea.

Few of the papers say were trying to get Jed Wallace from Portsmouth on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

He's one of the players I hope Reading go in for.

Very talented, lots of games played already for a young age, position we need, local to the area.. No doubt someone bigger will get him though.

Wallace has bags of talent, no doubt. But according to what I've heard locally in reports and from Pompey mates, he also has a pretty unpleasant attitude and ego. Thinks he's made it and is the dog's wotsits, and goes through spells where he can't really be arsed. Still a kid really though, so a decent manager could shake some sense into him.

In other news, our local media as well as the sun (pinch of salt at the ready) reckon we're set to sign Kenwyne Jones on loan from Cardiff.

Bit random. Speculation is that he's going to be deployed as our "Anti-Ipswich brick shit house weapon". But from what I've seen, the bloke can barely move. Not ideal to play up front in a side that wants to play on the break at lightening pace. Will be interested to see if that comes off.

Jed Wallace - we're linked with him every window it seems, but yeah, echoing Mark's comments above, plenty of Pompey mates at work, whilst grateful for his goals contribution this season, aren't altogether convinced he's destined to deliver on his early potential. Seems to blow very hot and cold. Also think there must be a reason why no-one's snapped him sooner, considering Pompey aren't (or certainly weren't when he first broke through in that L1 season) in much of a position to be fending off any approaches.

Alan Nixon suggesting we're getting Carayol on loan from Boro. I know we were in for him before. Needs game time after a long injury lay-off, obviously up against it getting into their side currently. Would be a good move, assume it's with a view to permanent in the summer.

I think we must be the only club outside of the PL not to have a loan player

I read an article the other day about use of the loan system and I think there were two teams who hadn't used emergency loans.

Edit: Found it. Leeds and Reading the only two in the football league.

It irritates me a little to be honest, every team we are competing against for promotion seem to be sort of semi-reliant on loaned players from clubs in higher divisions.

Take our game last week against Derby for example, they had Darren Bent, Tom Ince and Jesse Lingard on the pitch, nearly a 1/3 of their outfield players were players from Premier League clubs.
Middlesbrough have half of Chelsea's under-21 team on loan.
Watford half a mass influx of players on loan from Udinese or Granada.
Ipswich, Norwich, Bournemouth, Brentford all have 1 or 2 Premier League loan players as well.

Don't get me wrong, I think the loan market is a good thing, but I also think a lot of teams exploit it. The reason it irritates me is because, (just using an example here) clubs like Wolves focus on bringing players through the academy more often that not and very rarely ever rely on loaned players from other clubs. I find it hard to lose to a team when we play a bunch of home grown talent and it ends up losing to a bunch of Premier League players on loan from Chelsea (in the case of Middlesbrough).

At the same time though, I'm proud that Wolves is a self-sufficient club as such, and that our team is our own, and isn't a few borrowed mercenaries from other clubs in higher divisions. I think that's why if we do gain promotion it will look even better, as for the majority of the season we've done it with entirely our own squad and academy products, unlike other teams around us.

Yep.

Though we signed Ake (Chelsea) yesterday and Appiah (Palace) today. So over to you Leeds..

You had Sagbo on a loan until Hull recalled him. Also Danny Graham - I seem to remember Jackett saying he wanted to extend the loan but he got back into Sunderland's team. Neither jump out as Wolves deciding they don't want to "borrow mercenaries from other clubs in higher divisions" but rather circumstance preventing them from doing so.

Like you, we've only had two players on loan this season. And both were/are squad players. Hooiveld only got games because injuries and Bassong was never going to player under Neil Adams while Dorrans has been brought in because of injuries/players nearing suspension/Tettey's dodgy knees.

To be fair, they played a combined 9 games for us, 3 off them starts and contributed nothing except for a consilation goal in a 4-1 defeat to Brentford.

My post was mainly directed to teams that are heavily reliant on loaned talent in this league. I just think certain teams exploit it a lot more than others.

Bit of a step up (as strange as that sounds) for Appiah as he's only succeeded in the Conference and League 2, the former with us, the latter with us too but he also did ok with Wimbledon last season too. Didn't set the world alight with Notts County in League 1 but had a good African Nations Cup in January.

Could be a steal, could be a fail really.

I hope that us not signing Wilson or any other striker means that things are looking good in terms of Chris Martin making it back for the Watford game.

That game really is going to be make or break for us. A win there, and one or two other results in our favour and we'd be back in with a shout.

Same with Ipswich if they win that weekend.

I agree with your main point about teams exploiting/abusing the loan system. I still have nightmares about when Roeder was here and we had about 14/15 loans over a season!! Was responding to the lumping us in with those actually reliant on loans and the way you seemed to completely distance Wolves from loans.

.

Semi reliant or has this not been the case for years? The loan market is there for everyone to take advantage of and has been for as long as I can remember.

Last year we had Bamford, Wisdom and Thorne who all played very big parts in our season and nobody mentioned it. It only seems to be yourselves that are a little miffed as you do not have any at the moment. How much was Afobe out of curiosity? All about clubs' transfer policies isn't it.

We're paying the same amount for Lingaard as we did for Leon Best, nobody said a word when we had him. Don't think it's our fault we've pulled off a good deal or two. Jordan Ibe got mentioned the other week and he's on a youth contract at Liverpool, another good deal. Shame he got recalled. I think it's important to remember that Bent and Ince have both been in the Championship already this season with other clubs which says more about their career's/ability than "Premier League player" does.

Although we've got a fair few loans now, I'm pretty sure the only player anyone else would have taken would be Williams. The disappointment on the Town forums when Derby signed Ince and Bent whilst we went and got Chaplow and Varney.. Although they were both brilliant at Watford.
