Agree with the pragmatism/idealism stuff to a degree but it's just a different risk, if someone comes in and changes the way the owners want to do things then they absolutely have to succeed otherwise it just sets them back with what they want to do. And then if you want to get your preferred candidate in, you're changing philosophies again.This is the key bit. It might work but in my opinion it's certainly not going to in the short term so is effectively writing off this season. It's going to take him a while to adapt to being a full-time manager and to adjust his coaching sessions for fulltime. Difference is huge. Think Warnock if he was willing would have been the better appointment and a sign of owners being pragmatic rather than philosophical. Get Warnock for 12-18 months, probably get you promoted and suddenly you have a dirge of options at league 1 level who can play a similar brand of football as Williamson - hopefully with better defending.
Williamson would have been perfect for them but MK Dons have got in there earlier.
No doubt Williamson would have been top of the list a couple of months ago.
