Next week's Homeland is very good, seen this weeks in America.

The chase to the Russian safe house with Allison went on for so long, you knew it wouldn't be as it seemed - it wasn't sharp enough to be the 'catch'. This series has been excellent though, much the same as last years too. It's a completely different (and better) programme now that Brody isn't in it.

Anybody checked out Jessica Jones on Netflix yet?

After absolutely loving Daredevil, I'm about 5 episodes in and it looks like they've hit another home run with this. A lot of reviews and such seem to suggest it's better than DD... not sure, but it's certainly close. Jessica Jones and Kilgrave both seem to be superb casting choices... I've seen a lot of things calling Tennants Kilgrave the best on screen comic book villian since Ledgers Joker, and it does look like he's about on par. Granted, most comic book villains in movies (especially from Marvel) tend to be a bit shit, but still He plays a real shit bag of a character so damn well.

One of my favourite shows, people seem to be complaining it's too hard to follow but the first two seasons started similarly.

Yeah I don't think it's any different to the last two in that respect. There has always been plenty of 'who is this guy and what does he have to do with it?' at the start and then 'Ah it makes sense now!' toward the end.

Exactly that is what makes it so good and different - I think the plethora of young blonde guys is confusing some people - these Scandinavians all look quite similar especially in the dark light that the Bridge is shot in.

Only half a dozen episodes in, but so far I much prefer JJ. DD lost me about three quarters of the way through, not because it's a bad programme (it seems like Citizen Kane if you watch it after suffering through half a season of Gotham) but because ultimately it seemed like rather standard superhero fare. The hero's burden. The complications of a double life. The seemingly futile fight against widespread institutional corruption. The moral ambiguity of vigilantism. It's treading a thoroughly trampled thematic path.

The heroine of JJ, however, isn't a tortured idealist who wants to save the world, ensure justice is served, become a beacon of hope, or whatever. She's a hard-drinking, obnoxious, self-loathing, slobby bitch who is only spurred into action because the head-fucking sociopath who was once her abuser forces his way back into her life and comes up with various ways to make her pursue him. And through the peculiar dynamic that exists between hero and villain, the show at least tries to explore issues like survivor guilt, psychological abuse, post-traumatic stress, moral agency, rape, etc. Which isn't standard superhero fare. Maybe it will become more superhero-ey (and less interesting) as it progresses, but so far so good. Whatever it's flaws, it at least offers something a bit different, and in a genre that is often maddeningly samey.

Really like the Kilgrave character, but TBH I'm not a huge fan of Tennant in the role. I'm not a fan of him generally (so maybe that colours it), but I think what Ledger did in TDK was on a completely different level. Preferred D'onofrio in DD, too. Very different type of villain, I suppose, but still.

Back watching Haven second and last part of season finale. Among ups and downs, some seasons that I totally liked and some others not really, it was the only serie with more than one season that I could keep track of it all and it's getting to an end. I'm expecting for a decent end.

Season 2 of The Leftovers is one of the most interesting seasons of tv I've seen. Confident, mysterious, layered, focused. Won't be for everyone and its ratings are apparently crap but I'll be gutted if HBO don't renew it.

Quantico is still cool.

Started The Man in the High Castle, first 2 episodes were very promising.

I have watched 1 episode of it, and I really enjoyed it. Very strange seeing America like that, but very good as well. Going to watch it back to back shortly.

Series 2 is better than 1. I found 1 was too slow, with moments of brilliance. I am still catching up, as I like to watch episodes back to back. No one in my office watches it, so no fears of spoilers.

I wasn't that into season 1 either but i don't think i've ever known a series to improve itself so impressively in its second season.

Finished Man in the High Castle. Superb. Magnifique. 10/10. Would recommend.

Quantico mid-season finale happened too, a wonderfully batshit TV show. I'm convinced a 10
Year old has written it, a very awesome 10 year old though, not a shit one like the one that wrote Lost's terrible plots.

Read a great book a while back on Rome called The Rubicon which gave a history of Rome and it was a great read.
