First six pointer of the season next week. Dale v Crawley.

I'll be honest. If we win I would be gobsmacked!

Casey
I think you’ll win. Everyone we’ve played against except for Grimsby has said we are absolutely awful, because we are. We are stuck now with Stockdale’s signings. It’s been a turbulent week, so I am still undecided on whether the players are just awful players and I’ve totally misjudged it by believing that we actually have some half decent players in there. Today was a new low for me, and I can’t see anyone finishing below us as things stand. Our board need to make the right decision on our next manager, he will need to instil some organisation into the team and somehow pick up the confidence levels, as right now they are rock bottom.

If you can get someone in, who can organise the team.
And everyone puts a shift in you will have every chance.

You don,t need world beaters to stay in this league.

I would have pulled the trigger on Stockdale towards the end of last season. Shame, because he appears to be a really decent and honest bloke, but his signings have really put us in a mess.

We have hardly any time to change the playing staff around, and probably little money available.

Inexperience from the Board ( I know they gave him an ultimatum around the Carlisle game last season) and things did pick up for a short time...but not enough. Giving him a pre season and allowing him to sign so many poor players could be too much for a new manager to recover from. Whoever takes the job (please not Alexander ) will have a very hard task.

I wanted him gone after the Mansfield home game, his decision making was just bizarre, and we clearly had set up to draw 0-0 at home. It was dour, and Mansfield of course went on to grab a late winner. This is the most worried I’ve been about the possible future of the club, if we go down, crowds will dwindle even further than they already have and I just don’t think we would recover from it.

Yesterday there were only 122 of us, I remember a Tuesday night game at Swindon in 2014 there was around 400 of us there. We will soon see figures below 100 away if this form continues.

I just hope and pray the board get the appointment right and we sit here at the end of the season wondering why we were all so worried in August, but sadly I can only see this season ending one way. We have to stay positive though and get behind the team and new manager, we aren’t gone yet and there is plenty of time to turn it around.

Rumour is it’s Dave Artell, but not sure how accurate that is.

Could do a lot worse than Artell.

Got text off my dad yesterday after the pools game, for someone who remembers the bad old days of constant re-elections he’s really concerned :(

It's very hard to say, if we play anything like we did yesterday then you'll win very very comfortably. We play a lovely brand of suicide football, however if its like it was against Northampton on Tuesday then we could win comfortably. Confidence is low, things are getting toxic and i'm getting the impression the few senior players we have are not buying into the new methods.

This sounds weird given myself and a fair few others were instrumental in protesting against Artell and wanting him sacked last season. But he's probably the best option you lot could get right now.

I've heard Keith Hill mentioned but it's clear the bloke is washed these days, no matter how strong his Rochdale connection is. I've heard Graham Alexander, but he's failed at clubs with big budgets at L1 and L2 level so not sure he can manage without a chequebook in front of him.

Artell has a proven track record of bringing through young talent and working on a tight budget and overachieving with his resources. For this level, he's a very strong appointment. He lives in Chester as well so I always thought his next job would be in the North West as he's very settled in this part of the World.

What happened with us was this. The bloke lost nearly all his talented players in one Summer which was beyond his control. But every big decision he had to make last season, he got wrong. His recruitment was abysmal, his tactical decisions were ridiculous (playing strikers at wing back for instance) and giving contracts to homegrown lads just for being homegrown despite offering sod all will hamstring us for the next two years. He also was a control freak and ignored his backroom staff. He was under pressure for the first time and he cracked. He had to be sacked because the club needed a culture change and a reset otherwise we'd be where you are now. That's not calling him a bad manager, that's just saying he'd been given time to turn things around and he was actually making things a lot worse as each game passed.

I like Rochdale as a club. A very patient and well educated fanbase that like promoting young players and don't go out spending money they haven't got. Give Artell time he'll steer you to safety this season. He may well get the chance to hand pick his backroom team as well which will bode well for you as he won't be taking anyone from us, though he is more than welcome to stealing our GK Coach, Fred Barber, if he wants to!

I think the players are still backing Betsy. His coaching is, apparently, very good.

I was chatting to some Newport fans (couldn't get to their game so decided to watch some opponents) and I asked what they thought the problem was. The reply. "Your players seem scared of passing forwards". Couldn't put it better myself.

The times we had our wing backs, centre backs, midfielders actually turn back to pass was excruciating. Its not the turning back that's the problem, it's the turning back after beating the press. You're playing the ball back into it !

Efl cup on Tuesday v Premier League Fulham. It should be a free hit but if we lose that and against Rochdale I think Betsy could be toast.

The reason we're right down at the bottom and doing very poorly is because we have an injury crisis at the moment but once we get those players back and sign even better ones in January then we'll be a real promotion contender.

Don't forget that we have the best manager in the league by far and a Championship level defender.

Is the Championship level defender keeping up his record of not playing?

He has just been getting rested, no point in risking our best player against shitty L2 oppositions.

Well, great result in the cup yesterday and from speaking to friends who were at the game the suicide football was ditched and the ball played forward much more quickly.

There's some decent players in our squad so we do have it in us to travel up the table but I remember the Grimsby team who went down. No right to be relegated they just couldn't string any results together. Good result followed by 3 or four bad ones.

I remain hopeful but Saturday may give me a kick in the hypotheticals!

Saturday is a huge game in how we judge Betsy and this team, he has to implement elements of last night into the league now and most importantly the speed and intensity of our build up play. The players clearly have the ability but we need a consistent and simpler approach and we'll be at the right end of the table. I don't think I've seen us with a more talented and frustrating squad.

Either way, it's still anybody's guess which way it will go this season.

I’ve finally seen a team worse than us. Awful awful team Crawley. And their tactics were a disgrace. Backed up by the worst referee I’ve seen for a long time. He was utterly clueless. Brilliant second half from us, something to finally built on. Really should have won it but we are finally off the mark.

Why would I be gutted to see us win?

Think about what you’re saying. Why would any supporter want their own team to lose and go down?

Anyway, a good win from a poor performance ends our winless run. Another 3 points closer to safety.

I did say we were bad. You didn't believe me.

Crawley fans who were there are saying we got ripped a new one in the second half but what was so bad about our tactics that upset you?

Betsy has gone from hero to villain in five days. That's football management in the real world.

Blatant fake injuries and trying to get our players sent off. Number 8 pretended he had been head butted by John second half to get him sent off.
