Cov clearly don't belong in the PL if you scraped through L1 last season and get about 7k home fans.
Not at this moment in time no, but the potential is quite clearly there and for me are above Sheffield United as League 1's biggest club.

As for Bradford and season tickets, they'd easily shift 6k+ if the price doubled to £300. We have the most expensive season tickets in league one at £550 , and our cheapest ST is also the most expensive weighing in at a hefty £345.
We were just short of 5k holders last season, and there's an indication we may top it this summer, even with Cook gone.

Bradford would piss 6k, as much as I hate to agree with FIRTHY he's correct in this instance.

Just a sidenote SISU's have done something to try and build a relationship with the fans ,the new season tickets will be the fourth cheapest in the whole of the four leagues, some work out at £11 pound per match.

I believe with a city nearly of 400,000 and only one football club if the owners ,either the present mob or any new ones, got it right the potential is massive, though I wouldn't put us above Sheff Utd in size

It's very hard to fathom for fans from other sides how much SISU are despised amongst a lot of the fanbase. The seasons before they came we were averaging over 20,000, but just because of one pompous arrogant CEO who everyone hates with a passion the fans are staying away until the twat leaves.
If SISU sack him or move him on they could turn this around and get the majority back, but for some reason they keep him on which allows him to keep spouting his patronising shit.

i really do not care who is bigger than whoever.
I have got to admit I was shocked the league one playoff final attendance was just 48000, that's a disgrace.

If ever Cov got to a Wembley final we would sell that on our own. We have been starved of success and that semi final of the JPT against Crewe proved what we would get if we got to a Wembley final

You wouldn't....allocations dictate that.

Didn't Villa only get 25k for the cup final? That's shocking for a 90k capacity ground. Oh well, Wembley is for the sponsors - not for the fans...

We managed to get 33,500 for the Cap Cup. Then managed to take 27,000 down there 10 week later for the L2 play-off.

Very much a corporate occasion.

Coventry are indeed a bigger club than Bradford. Hopefully their fortunes will turn around sooner rather than later.

Depends who they were playing. If they were playing a team who only take 15k or so they would get allocated what they want i think leeds were allocated just under 50k v donny

As I have said before, we have a hardcore fanbase and then an awful lot more who sit on the fence. When the big games come around, they are there.

It would be funny if we got to the JPT final. Probably taking over 40,000 to then go back to 8k for the next home game when we lose. It pisses me off that some supporters have seemingly given up on the club, but then again I can list a lot of reasons why I understand them not turning up.

That is why I would love to get to the JPT final where we would be given loads.

Recent past??? Say last 35 years, Sheffield United have spent 9 seasons in tier 3 and even 1 in the bottom tier. 21 seasons in what's now the Championship, and 3 in the PL.

By comparison in that time Coventry have been in the top flight for 21 years, 11 in the Championship, and 3 in tier 3, winning a major honour in the process, 1987 FA Cup.

All time honours, United obviously come out on top, but in recent history Coventry are the bigger club. Certainly not at this moment, but with success those thousands of missing, disillusioned fans will flock back.

I'd agree with that. At this moment in time they are bigger, but over the last 50 years it would point towards us being the bigger side.

Depends what you judge size on, as it does EVERY SINGLE TIME WE HAVE THIS FUCKING ARGUMENT!

Sheffield United are getting crowds of just under 20K (sometimes above) after 5(I think) seasons in this turd of a division whereas Coventry are getting 7K-10K. I know Coventry have had fairly major issues but even without SISU they wouldn't be getting the same crowds as Sheff Utd.

Lets say the last decade, the DRAWBS have played in the top flight, have reached numerous cup semi finals, have reached the POs regularly and averaged 32k....

bigger and better than Coventry..

This has been done to death and is the single most boring thread on here.

And now I have gone and contributed to it. What was I thinking?

My Dad's mate who is a Leeds fan reckons that we are on a par with Sheffield United in terms of club size, excluding home averages.

IMO -

1 - Sheff Utd
2 - Bristol City
3 - Coventry
4 - PNE
5 - Bradford
6 - Barnsley
---------------------
24 - Swindon :fish:

It's all a matter of opinion, but how anyone can say a club who only had 2,500 more home fans than we did away fans in a game at their stadium they just got back are a bigger club than us is beyond me..

I know that's just one example, but historically, we are probably a bigger club than Coventry.
You don't honestly believe this do you? I've been alive for 38 years and all Bristol City have ever done is hover between mostly the 2 bottom divisions. Honestly, I couldn't even name a player who played for you in the 80s or 90s.

Let's be honest that following at the Ricoh was a one off. I swear you didn't sell out for Chesterfield or Bradford away when you were already promoted.

You haven't even played in the top tier since the 80s have you? Sorry mate, I like Bristol City but there is no way on earth you are bigger than Bradford, Preston and most certainly Cov.

In my world Burton are the biggest club in the world. Fuck em who cares what happened last week let alone 50 years ago.
Let's face it we are all in this league together so let's stop spouting this boring shite and accept that at this time we are all as bad or as good as each other depending on how you feel.

Hover between the bottom two divisions, massive exaggeration there!

We've spent two seasons in the bottom flight total.

The majority of our history has been spent in the second tier, next year will be our 49th I believe.

Got bored today, decided to do this. In my opinion this is the largest to smallest clubs in League One for next season

Coventry City
Sheffield United
Bradford City
Wigan
Millwall
Barnsley
Blackpool
Doncaster
Swindon
Peterborough
Port Vale
Gillingham
Southend
Chesterfield
Walsall
Crewe
Oldham
Shrewsbury
Scunthrope
Bury
Rochdale
Colchester
Burton
Fleetwood

Its actually quite a hard league to determine which club goes where, the top spot is up for debate. The middle 15 teams are all quite similar in size....

Wigan are smaller than most clubs in this league and even in real terms are behind quite a few other clubs. We are on a par with your Bradfords and Barnsleys.

'38 years of mainly hovering around the bottom 2 divisions' and we still get by far bigger crowds than a club hovering in the Prem for 38 years or whatever.

Historically successful clubs with low crowds = Very small.

Historically unsuccessful clubs with large crowds= Big Clubs.

That makes us bigger than Coventry, substantially bigger than 24k to Wembley Preston and on par with Bradford behind SU.

Can i just add we are the best supported club in the country to of never played in europe. Also the best supported club to of won fuck all in 90 years. And only been in the top division 5 out of the last 40 years yet still get the crowds we get. No one can argue with that if us and coventry were both in the top division for a sustainable period i believe we would get much bigger crowds than them. I dont think were a big club but i think our support is pretty good considering all those things and the fact we have another slightly bigger club in the city too.

It depends what your measuring size in doesn't it? In terms of current size then simply look at the home average attendances, if historically then clearly Coventry are miles head of Bradford, Wigan are aguably one of the smallest in the division, there's so many different ways of doing it and factors to consider.

Historically we are bigger then Fleetwood, Crewe, Doncaster, Peterborough, Wigan, Rochdale, Bury, Scunthorpe, Burton, Colchester for example, but in the last five years, Peterborough and Doncaster have done well and had finance, Wigan have been in the premiership and won the FA Cup.

Ultimately the relevance is little, we're all third tier clubs and that's the ultimate measurement for any club at the current time.

Bristol City's crowds are crap in relation to the size of the city and catchment area, especially considering Rovers are shit.

Same can be said for Bradford and Coventry, really.
