before middlesborough today where we were 1 number off man utd we got cheltenham who got man city away in the next round and prior to that who got cardiff who knocked us out who got man city in the next round.

It’s never ending good luck here.

It’s still… Brentford, regular opponent in recent times, modest away following and low attraction for home fans. Likely one of us or Stoke has to move because the away sides are both London based, if it gets on TV it would be even worse possibly as that would impact an average attendance even more.

Lucky to get 5500 for it id have thought. It’s one of “those” Premier League teams you just don’t want like Watford or Palace.

Home tie is the only positive but feel for Carol there, deserved to host a huge game and this one isn’t that.
They should bring 1k, there should be 6 of us, if it’s priced right, I can’t see us beating them as they’re decent, but it should be a good game and they play good football.
It’s a prem team at home, and it could’ve been loads worse.
Don’t get me wrong some prem pub team like Everton or Newcastle would’ve been amazing.
C’est la vie

I do get where you're coming from, but if you can't raise your attendance at home of the 3rd round draw for a Prem team, then you might as well give up tbh. Especially if its on TV

Middlesbrough at home is below average.

Last time we played them I don’t think they even managed to fill the north stand.

In the let's see what you could have won draw today, we would have gotten...

Liverpool away

fuck.

I mean it's fair that we were never expected to get past Shrewsbury in the 2nd round, but we could have done had we been a little less crap.

Knibbsy's winning goal should've been disallowed and that's my honest opinion. He was not in an offside position but apparently Smith was and he did attempt to head the ball and hence the offside flag. Obviously I'm not complaining but I don't think that referees should ever overrule the linos except in very rare cases. Because what's a lino there for after all?

Edit - btw, it's true that Exeter tried to make 6 subs
I agree it was the wrong decision, but no moaning from me, we had a couple of gilt edged chances and didn't take them

Great draw. Will probably be on the box to boot. Good income and a test against the best team in the country.

Come away with our dignity intact would do. Still, we all know it’s only really about one thing - money.

Ah fair enough, in the earlier stages it's done on your league standing at the time of the draw i.e. ball number 1 is the side top of L1.

Alphabetical order isn't it? We were ball number 9 and we're nearly always a single digit.
They must have changed it because it used to be done on standings, but perhaps I'm going more years than I realise!

EDIT - You're correct. I've just checked and any new teams that come into the draw are done alphabetically and existing teams are given a number depending on their place in the previous draw i.e. for R3, PL and Championship Clubs were 1-44 in alphabetical order and 45 were Yeovil because their tie was the first out the hat in R2.

Presumably the same in R1 when L1 and L2 sides come into it with the 4th qualifier winners.

VAR needed for all of the EFL and cup games that they're in. If they can have it in the SPL at places like Dundee, Ross County, St Mirren & Livingston we should be able to manage here.

VAR isn't in Scotland.

So the assistant was right but probably over powered into changing his mind I guess by maybe a more experienced ref?

Exeter should have been thrown out of the competition anyway so swings and roundabouts.

You can keep your VAR. I don't ever want to see it in the EFL.

We evidently shouldn't have been thrown out the competition. Do we really need to go over things again? The FA representatives briefed both managers before the game that we could make a 6th sub if the game goes to extra time. When questioned throughout the game if this was accurate, it was continually confirmed by FA representatives. We then went to make a 6th sub, and did so - No angry protests from the animated Derek Adams and his bench because he was also under the impression this was allowed. He then goes to make a 6th sub, by now the 4th official has been told that we shouldn't have been allowed to make a 6th sub, and prevents Bradford from doing so. The blame lies totally with the FA representatives who are there to brief the rules and ensure they are upheld.

VAR is going to be in the SPL next year when they return to playing after the Qatar World Cup.

I agree, but isn't VAR used in later stages of the FA Cup, at grounds with the capability?
So the message is it is only important to get the right decision when its Liverpool or Man U.
We just need better referees, or at least ones who don't overturn decisions due to player pressure (and who know the rules around substitutions)

I really don't think it was anything to do with player pressure. The ref blew his whistle and instantly ran over the the lino thinking they'd made a mistake. I genuinely think the referee just got it wrong (who was very poor on the day for both teams).

I agree on the standard of referee's below the premiership. The thing that get's me the most is the fitness of them. They clearly allow teams to time waste or slow the game down because they are blowing and need a breather.

Refs can definitely be better as above but in football you get decisions and you don't get decisions. All part of the bitching and moaning as fans during and after games and it evens itself out eventually.

Rather that than be a prem boy whining on about how the technology has buggered them when it's supposed to get it spot on. The miniscule decisions on offside and now convoluted laws of the game are the priority to sort out.
