Apparently Gamechanger wanted Michael Appelton as first choice post ME era.

Please, please, no.

I fear a big "marquee" manager signing on big wages who has no experience in the EFL. Praying I'm wrong.
Ashton sounded out MA while he was CEO at Bristol City.

I know you guys have deeper routed issues; but how's his football, at least how he's tried to play, been this season?

Been sideways and backwards this season in the main but that's down to injuries and the poorer quality of the squad players who've had to play instead. We're running at less than a goal a game in all competitions for goals scored and conceded I think so it's pretty boring and dull at the minute. It's definitely not his preferred way of playing, we saw that last season where it was quick, forward passing football.

He probably should be getting a little more out of the squad at the minute but 99% of Lincoln fans still think MA is the right man despite this seasons struggles so far.

Just to add, I think your current CEO was with Appleton at Oxford as well so they go back a bit.

It's looking like Appleton then.

To say I'm underwhelemed is an understatement. If that's the standard I'd much prefer we took a chance on Dyer or Mowbray who both dote on the club.

Ultimately though we can afford to turn the head of Appelton, Lowe or Manning. I'd only care for the latter. Lowe would be a fucking disaster at first glance as I don't think he has experience of working with players of any discernable quality.

Hoping to be surprised come Monday morning but expecting to be disappointed. We've near enough sold out our next 3 home games at 29k+... gotta be honest; if we unvail MA as manager that's gunna negate the mood rather than improve it. If it happens I hope he proves me wrong but think most fans will find it a tough sell.

It's also worth considering WTF happens with the likes of Celina, Morsy & others who only dropped down to L1 for Cook. Lots of unanswered questions and wouldn't be surprised if we lose a few players in Jan.

Pretty surprised at this sacking (I think it's Cook's first?), despite the mediocre results. Personally, I'd have backed him to improve things dramatically in the second half of the season, given another transfer window.

Looking at his past record, he generally gets it right eventually. The only doubt would have been whether or not it was actually Leam Richardson who was the real talent?

Whoever comes in has an already strong squad with financial backing. I'd back Appleton to do a good job, but I said the same about Cook so what do I know?

It wouldn’t hurt Ipswich fans to accept they are a League 1 club.
A mid table league 1 club on equal points with Cheltenham having played an extra game.

Appleton has loads of League experience and is very capable of turning Ipswich from a mid table League 1 club to one capable of promotion. He plays attractive football and attracts exciting young players to the clubs he manages. Especially when he is working closely with Ashton when he achieved automatic promotion to League 1 and 2 EFL Trophy finals with us.

The entitled fans probably wont give him a chance though.

Which is why he was sacked

We know we’re in league 1 but we want promotion and he’s taken us backwards despite the amount spent.

We’ve sat with managers for far too long in the past when they were poor, and we’ve got to break the trend otherwise we’re never going to go back up.

If you’re referring to us as ‘back to where we belong in league 1’ before relegation, we haven’t been in the third tier since 1957 so hardly back where we belong.

I’m referring to your too big a club for Michael Appleton rhetoric.

You need to appoint a manager for the league you are in now.

Otherwise you end up with the likes of Ramon Diaz or Jim Smith taking you out of the league.

Personally, I'd say that Cook's past record shows that he is anything but poor. However, I accept that the pressure was growing and your new backers are impatient to get back to the Championship. It will be interesting to see who you go for next.

I would be amazed if Ipswich didn’t already have someone lined up, a draw in the second round of the FA cup is hardly the end of the world

I agree, our fans are aiming too high for what we can expect to appoint. Some are suggesting we go for Jokanovićh:ffs:

What I meant is holding onto them when they’re performing poorly with us.

Cook’s previous record though, had different supporting coaches (the Wigan manager) which to me suggests they played a huge role. I was told this at the start of the season to expect this too.

BBC journalists were reporting earlier on Twitter that the MK Dons manager is first choice.

Ex Ipswich lad isn't he so I hope it's just lazy reporting. Bloody hell, we could do without more upheaval.

Poaching managers from other clubs should be against the rules once a season commences.
If you want to fire your own you should only get access to out of work managers.

Fed up of so called big clubs disrupting other teams seasons by stealing managers and their backroom staff.

Thank God Paul Warne is a Norwich fan

Lee Johnson might be next ..

Had a pop at the fans and actually swore at them !

I wonder what was said to him to warrant such a reaction?

Personally I reckon if you give it out then be prepared to get it back so I have no problem with Lee Johnson giving it back.

Sounds like it was basically “get out of our club” - except probably with a few additions !

Wouldn't that be a big risk for Manning as MK Dons is his first managerial job in England (unless I have that wrong). To leave so quickly after being appointed wouldn't look good imo and could affect his later career. I remember Michael Appleton having a reputation, before joining us, for jumping ship quickly, admittedly from basket case clubs though.

I agree, it could be considering he hasn't been here 4 months. However a big increase in wages, more backing in January than we could ever do, a soft spot for the club and if he thinks he can get that team playing well enough for the playoffs he will get the plaudits. There are people here who still say it's Martin's team and any success for Manning is basically down to Martin so he might think staying here in the short term doesn't give such great kudos.

I don't want him to go but then I didn't want Martin to go either.

If Ipswich come calling (which I'm not convinced they will) we will see how loyal he is.

Ouch, that hurts! :eyes: True though :bg:

Interesting comments from James Norwood today - "Gutted to see the gaffer go. We have a great relationship on and off the field. He was up against it for a multitude of reasons this season and I genuinely wish him the best in the future."

Just wondering if his card was marked from an early stage with the new owners?

Norwood who is not bothered about upsetting the people who pay his wages because he is on a sticky wicket with them over his DD conviction maybe?

Fairly sure he’s been transfer listed so won’t care what he says.
