Scott Brown canned by Fleetwood. Not surprising. Reckon Wade Elliott can't have long left either.

Interesting move, on the one hand they do have some very talented players like Mayor and Marriott so should probably be performing better but it's not exactly stable behind the scenes there. Medium to long term it might be the best thing to happen to him.

Wade's safe - few of the issues we have are out of his hands. Our board are not known for panicking either (or spending money so compo is out of the question).

It depends on performances though, any more like Northampton and he'll be on a tightrope, more like yesterday and he's fine.

I think your probably right there mate. Got to say my immediate reaction was one of disgust. Only 2 months ago they gave Brown a 2 yr contract. Will cost the club a lot of money, no owner, no manager, no money. .....

Bonkers that a manager, irrelevant of the extenuating issues, would not be under pressure after 0 goals in games this season. Our fans would be going absolutely bonkers. Performances are all well and good but you have to score soon, simple as that.

I agree. Good will can only stretch so far, surely.

A goal may not be far off though. Cheltenham's xg was over 2 on Saturday, which is their highest this season.

I like the fact our board aren't reactionary c*** like most football fans seem to be in the social media age. Sacking a manager a few days after the transfer window shuts is madness - especially if he's had a say in the players being brought in.

Apart from Bolton, we've been in every game this season. We've lost three of them 1-0, and only lost 2-0 on Saturday because we were actually chasing the game.

If you look at results and goals scored, then yeah it looks shite - but football is more nuanced than that.

As I said above, play like we did against Northampton, he'll be sacked. Play like we did on Saturday, he'll be fine because we'll be fine.

Tbh mate, the Training Ground is the jewel in the crown for the club. It's is quite superb. I wonder what the players who only signed for the club in the last 2 weeks must be thinking. Equally any manager thinking about the vacancy will have to think very carefully with all that's going on. Watch this space......

Wonder if Tom Clarke fancies a crack at management, just retired at 35.

Tell me more, or better still tell the board at Fleetwood. What were his strengths as a player ?
He played 35 games for you two seasons ago...

He was a good leader and captain for us, could definitely see him giving management a go.

Scrap that, maybe in a few years.

He's rejoined us as an academy coach.

Wade might be in a bit of trouble now...
That was a quick turnaround, Si? And after finally scoring a goal, too? Although Rovers helped you out with that, admittedly.

As I said, it depends on the type of performances - last night was horrific.

To be honest, in my view he has 10 games from the start of the season. So far we've played very well in one (lost 2-0), battled in 3 others (lost two 1-0, and drew one 0-0), and been completely dreadful in the other four (lost 2-0, 1-0, 3-0 and 4-1).

He's effectively got two games to save his job in my view - Exeter and Peterborough away.

I've just posted on our forum that I genuinely feel for the bloke because in his two summers in charge he's had to deal with shedloads of backroom upheaval. He's been massively hindered this year by the loss of, arguably, the best player in the club's history, and a pocket of fans who've been calling for his head since his second competitive game in charge last year.

That doesn't excuse some of the performances though, or the tactical naivety at times.

Michael Appleton confirmed. Will give him a chance but not sure how to feel about it really. I have a Blackpool fan at work who would come in on a Monday constantly moaning about him. Not sure if he knew Methven from his time at Oxford but this does feel like a 10th choice manager, and I can't blame other managers for rejecting us considering where we lie in our table and the issues at hand

It’s pretty uninspiring, isn’t it?

Realistically though, it’s about as good as we were ever going to get at the moment. No choice but to get behind him and the team now.

If you get the Oxford version then he'll end up being a good appointment. But you will probably need to give him time. He took until Christmas in his 1st season with us to impose his style but he came in late in the summer. Once he did though, he built an excellent team/squad bar some very average keepers. He didn't tolerate slackers in the squad with us.

If you get the other version then I don't know.

Surely Charlton are a half decent prospect? Very early days yet and you've got some real talent in forward and wide positions. Decent average attendance, not far from Central London and former Premier League club with a nice stadium?

This latest appointment strikes me as one that won't last very long. Very uninspiring appointment for a guy with a very patchy record. I'm still surprised that Daryl Clarke is without work, several promotions on his Cv and the sort that won't take any shit and get a club out of the doldrums.

Met DC at our home game vs Barnsley. Reminded me what a great human he is. Looks really refreshed too

I think Appleton is probably somewhere between the success of his Oxford spell and the poor Blackpool one i.e. fairly average L1 manager, which is what we saw here.

As good as we were in 2020/21, and it's hard not to be when you've got the likes of Palmer (now a Championship 'keeper), Montsma (would have been Championship if not for his two ACL's), Bridcutt (Championship quality but injury prone), Grant (went to the Championship, now in the SPL), Rogers (signed for Middlesbrough this summer) and Brennan Johnson (self explanatory) in your side, we were fairly poor either side of that (caveated slightly by an admittedly poor 2021/22 summer transfer window because of the late finish due to the PO's).

You'd sit there for 5 games bemoan the possession based style, the slow build up play, defensively fairly poor, unable to defend crosses/set pieces etc and then you'd have a game where it all clicked and think 'this is it', only to then revert to type again.

I think I said on here that it did feel like he hid behind the 'I'm a coach who develops young players' line a bit too often and results very sounded secondary to him in his post-match interviews at times.

Glad to here it, left here with lots of credit in the bank.Had to cope with an inimaginable tragedy on top of all the usual crap that goes with being a manager of a lower league club.

Wade Elliott expected to get the boot tomorrow.

Nothing confirmed yet, but our local journo has done an opinion piece on why it's time to make a change - and he would only do that if he knew something.

Shame to see anyone lose their job but without seeing you yet this season it doesn’t seem like picking up a win is getting closer. Time it right you never know you might be able to get Duff back as he seems to be struggling at Swansea.

Nobody likes to see people lose their job, but to score not a single goal in 7 games is ridiculous. He has to be tinned doesn't he?
