Gavin Strachan has turned Shrewsbury down apparently.

Duff now confirmed as leaving Barnsley for Swansea. Interesting to see what direction they go. If Wilder was willing to talk to Reading you’d think he’d jump at Barnsley or maybe Darren Moore?

Not exactly right. When the Aussie jumped ship from Celtic to Spurs there was a phone conversation as Strachan didn't know where he stood with a new manager coming in.
Rodgers comes in tells Strachan his jobs safe so Strachan decides not to proceed with possible discussions

I get the impression that Moore is happy to be out of football for a bit

Rumours of our new head coach being Matthew Taylor which will be announced tomorrow.

Very interesting article here:-

I’d be happy enough with this appointment if it is Taylor.

Am I right in thinking that money is a bit tight at Shrewsbury? If they have got a smaller budget this year, it might be best to have a hands on coach to improve their players?

Apparently Cotterill and our CEO (Caldwell) overspent without the chairman’s knowledge or permission hence why both are no longer here. The budget will be slightly smaller than last year but not as bad as the media are making out I’d imagine. We’re going to be signing a lot of younger players as we’ve got a good, but ageing squad. Our new philosophy is going down the Peterborough/Crewe style route and developing released Prem/non league players and selling them on for big money. Assuming we don’t lose any of our best players for fees, we’ll do okay I imagine.

Walsall fans don’t blame Taylor, they blame Jamie Fullerton and the board for the bad results. The interview Taylor did with the ‘coaches voice’ makes me think he’s learnt from his mistakes at Walsall so I’ll definitely not write him off or be unhappy with the appointment as everybody deserves a chance. Sounds like he has good contacts within the game which is never a bad thing to hold either.

Yeah I don’t think anybody has really done it at Walsall since they have dropped back to L2 and a couple of their managers have been excellent ones for that level elsewhere, indicates the problems not been the managers. Long story short I don’t think his time there should count for much in evaluating him.

True look at Dazzler! They reckoned they’d happily drive him out to us (but seemed very bitter about losing a manager they apparently didn’t rate).

He did alright didn’t he!

It was between Matt Taylor and Wade Elliott for our job last summer - so that means the two linked with the Shrews job this summer were a guy who turned us down last year (and subsequently Shrewsbury this year), and the guy who got to the final two last year for our job.

I'm amazed Micky didn't come back for Wade as well.

Clarke was shafted by the board when we had a chance of making the play offs he got pissed off and left he was never a bad manager and has a very good record at this level he wasnt backed here mainly down to Pomlett.

Matty Taylor finally announced as our new head coach. Hopefully we can now start signing some players and putting a squad together. Gonna be our busiest summer in about 10 years as we need atleast 10 new signings assuming nobody leaves.

If you need a centre back can see him going for Monthe we let him go but he was good here most assumed he had something else lined up and Taylor signed him here.

I don’t think Taylor will have much of an input into signing players, that’ll be Micky Moore. Although if our goalkeeper Marko Marosi gets sold, I can’t see Taylor not atleast recommending Carl Rushworth so who knows.

Very strange summer ahead for Salop that we’re not usually used to. Could go either way tbh with you, I’ll judge us by signings and keeping the squad together.

I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if Rushworth was in L1 next season, he should be playing on loan in the Championship and taking another step up.

I’ve never known so many young head coaches being announced in recent times. Football’s certainly changing as a lot of clubs are now moving away from the old school manager approaches and putting in young, inexperienced head coaches.

I think it’s been that way for a good while now, you see a lot of clubs banging on about wanting a “young, progressive” manager, but I think clubs may go back and forth, and if they travel the inexperienced route one time and that fails, they may cling to experience next time and look for their own Hodgson/Allardyce/Warnock-type figure.

Seen Pete O’Rourke reporting Steve Evans is in the running (for want of a better word in his case) for the Hibs job. Could just imagine him and Harry McKirdy working together…

I didn't think you was that bad against us.

But with new owners in place in he had to start well.

Yeah just heard this myself, rumours that Stevenage have allowed Hibs to speak to him. Would be a big blow for Stevenage if he goes.
