We have gone on our hols so anyone playing us can expect three points. Though I am told if we had not missed some sitters we should have had a point tonight.

It's come to the point where I think you'll still think we're going down even when we're mathematically safe :D
We'll never be mathematically safe.

Don't let tonight build your hopes up. I made that mistake after our last 2-0 away win. We then lost the next 4 games.

Has it ever happened before?

Don't think so.

I think Torquay and aldershot knocked around in the league for 4/5 seasons and went back down.

Last season Mansfield and newport came up and we both finished midtable - this season luton (knocking around the playoffs) and Cambridge (midtable) are fine.

I think the side that came closest to going straight back down was wimbledo'n (though by all means correct me if wrong)

From the Cambridge forum:
"After the final whistle I shouted to Money 'That's embarrassing!' - He beckoned me forward and said to me - 'That's the last time you'll ever see me at this football club' "

Not sure if it's true but that would be disastrous for Cambridge if he did walk. Far from his biggest fan but he's a decent manager, and I know what Alan Neilson is like as a caretaker boss...
He could have been telling the fan he's getting banned?

Come to think of it, if I remember rightly Barnet in 05/06 nearly went straight back down. Survived on the final day I think.

I think we will stay up, plus the run after that Tranmere game was against top sides, we've got a few winnable games to follow this result. 3 more wins and a draw to reach the magic 50, we are currently 5th bottom and on decent form, believe!

Most definitely the case, Our defence put you through about 3-4 times tonight. Same can be said about Billy Kee in the first 10 mins when he was through 1on1 with the goalkeeper and hit the crossbar.

I need to not post on here until I've got a sensible head on me - ie not after a defeat at home to a side who have lost their last 5 and gave t won away from home since dinosaurs roamed the earth.

I'll post something more coherent tomorrow but tonight has been a bad night.

Hello, we'll be taking up one of these spots, enjoy fighting for the other one. Hartlepool, Oxford, Cheltenham, enjoy your three points.

Taking the obvious disappointment of losing to us out of it, how did we play tonight?

You were shite. You defended reasonably well when down to 10 men but otherwise I'm sorry but I'm not handing out compliments to you. :-)

You were very limited, I'm not sure you had any other shots aside the two goals, but that was only to be expected I suppose.

I thought you saw out the match well (although we didn't make it that difficult) and Max Power is obviously a decent player.

Tonight was all about our deficiencies I'm afraid. We were lethargic, disinterested and disorganised. It seems like we've been safe for weeks and have been playing out the rest of the season on autopilot. Suddenly we're in a relegation scrap and we need to wake up bloody sharpish.

Worryingly that's 1 win in 12 now and we have a tough run in. Lose away at Cheltenham and hartlepool and we're in serious shite.

If we squeak through we need an overhaul of the squad in the summer.

I didn't ask for any. Believe me, I know what we are and how we've been playing. Just interested to see an opposition's fans view really.

I think Hartlepool could really do it.

I fancy they will beat us Saturday. We are more or less safe barring a miracle and they've got everything to play for.

They win that and I think there will be a good few sides crapping themselves.

The 2 stand out candidates for the drop now are obvious - cheltenham and York

I'm looking forward to Cambridge away next year so please don't do anything silly that you'll regret.

I don't know, it's one defeat in 6 for Cheltenham under their new manager. Most of those are draws but still, if they keep drawing and get the odd win they'll be fine.

Tranmere will go on a good little run of form now. This is where they'll start to pull away from it all.

Interesting how things work.

A few york fans predicted we would go down to having an inexperienced manager (a reasonable assumption may I add) whereas they seemed to have done well with Wilcox coming in after doing well last season with scunthrope

Only in football could we find our feet and start to pull away playing better football than we did (still work in progress) whereas they seemingly have got worse.

We were in danger of relegation on the final day of 05/06 but so were 7/8 sides. In the end we won at Rushden and with other results going our way we finished 18th on 54 points.

We went from playoff finalists, to staying up on the last day of the following season.

It happens!

Weren't northampton bottom of the league for like 90% of the season last year and managed to stop up?

I think Hartlepool could do it, but when i saw them i couldn't believe we drew. Some of the players had the worst touch and couldn't pass it 5 yards, it was funny to watch. Two wins and they have as good of a chance as anyone down there.

Cheltenham are poor and York don't know how to win and I'm surprised they haven't been in the bottom two yet.

Feeling York will Finish bottom with Cheltenham, Or it will be too much for the pools and they will be very close but still be down with York. Bye bye Meikle & McCombe!
