I'd propose a change in profile picture for a year to something vaguely amusing chosen by the league 2 fraternity on here.
If the unthinkable happens, I'll change my profile to anything. In fact I'll change it on a weekly basis to whatever the forum wants.

Keith Curle's press conference this morning.

"They've had the brick and now they can have the lipstick" - Proceeds by laying down a lipstick balm and what looks like a brick on the table. He's officially gone mad.

I'm taking that to mean that now he's given them a public rollicking he's going to give them the lovey dovey treatment too.

A hard worker, and a great motivator.

He's not had the best service in truth.. give him a chance he'll take it, he's a natural finisher.

He's only started around 10 games

Agree at times about the service, but he has started in 23 matches in all competitions this season and only managed six goals in the league. The club is lacking a striker who is in his prime as opposed to the current situation.

Anyway, I think Cheltenham and Carlisle will go down, the latter on goal difference...

Gary Dicker and Danny Grainger are at the press conference. They look like they've been tortured into doing it.

If Carlisle survive I suggest hellogregory is stripped naked put in the stocks at Brunton Park and pelted with rotten fruit and tomatoes to teach him a lesson !

Maybe just banned from using certain words next season (relegation, lose etc) so that we don't have to endure this again, although hopefully we won't have to. Our new owner's just come out and said he sees us in the Championship some time soon which is nice.

But everything I've said is right.

It pains me to say it but it's the truth. We've been down ever since them 2 late Shrewsbury goals went in.

Personally hellogregory I love reading your posts, the helplessness and pain of a loyal supporter shines through with gritty humour too.
What would you be like in a promotion season ?

At this stage I think if he turned up with a binbag full of bricks and half used lipstick that would be a good day for him.

I like how you can see the 'brick' just off the edge of that photo.

What the fuck is that thing anyway? Looks like no brick I've ever seen.
I'd guess it's something he's picked up out of the car park or from round the corner on that back lane heading to the rugby club.

I thought it was Danny Grainger's replacement?

Its the foundation stone of the new Carlisle United !
You jest but the new Carlisle United is just around the corner. We have ambitious plans to not be the laughing stock we've been for the past 3 years. Only Blackpool among League clubs seem to be more of a shambles than we've been consistently.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
:ffs::lol::lol: that press conference, only just heard about it.

you can say one thing, we may be crap but at least we're doing it in a ridiculous manner, i wonder if in L2 history we've had lipstick and a brick at a press conference.

Not a manager to give you any confidence at all for this run in.

We've announced that there's a possibility we'll have to make our final game of the season v Hartlepool all-ticket, at a police request. Nixon says he hopes not but if the police decide to classify it as a category C match then they'll have to in order to keep out 'maurading fans'.

Also we might open the Waterworks end to accommodate Hartlepool fans. We've given them about 1,500 tickets, they're expected to ask for more, if they want more than about 2,000 then the Waterworks can be opened, which will treat visitors to Brunton Park to the unusual sight of fans on all four sides of the ground. Could be a stonker of a game.

If Mansfield are out of trouble, then so are York...but I don't buy it just yet. We have Hartlepool at home on Saturday and if we lose that it will look quite worrying again.

Three left at home and two away. We're shite at home and the away games are at Shrewsbury and Portsmouth. I'm going to all of those so an early couple of wins would be nice to allow some relaxation. But that's never been the York way.

I don't know if i'd want you to win that or draw - whatever you do, just don't lose it.

Hi, I'm new here (although posted on the old TFF yonks ago under a different username) and in case you may be wondering what a WFC fan is doing on a thread concerning a relegation battle in the basement division of professional football, I've always been interested in reading about the goings-on in the lower divisions and these threads never fail to be a good read.

That said, I've only actually been to one League 2 game in nine years (when Barnet beat Aldershot 3-0 in early 2010) but the last game I attended before that was between Leyton Orient and Carlisle in 2005/06 when both teams were going for automatic promotion. Funnily enough, I saw them again a couple of years later when they comfortably disposed of Northampton 2-0 and at the time were looking odds-on to complete an amazing ascent of three promotions in four seasons from the Conference to the Championship. Now Carlisle are a team, though 300 or so miles away, that I've often looked at their results with interest, especially during the years leading up to that game and a couple beyond. I think many neutrals were pleased to see them finally getting the success their long-suffering fans deserved after the seemingly never-ending nightmare of the Knighton era, which it makes all the more shocking to see them back in this position after being supposedly stable for all those years in League 1 (and nearly getting to the play-offs only a few years ago). How can this be so? You were hardly among the very worst in League 1 last year, you only got relegated on the final day and it's not like you had a Stockport kind of calamity (though Tranmere amazingly who finished higher are doing even worse), so was at least a top-half finish not a reasonable objective at the start of the season?

And while not having seen you play recently I'm not sure how well/badly qualified Keith Curle is to keep you up (though he seemed to do a good job at Notts County, still surprised he got the sack), let alone move forward for next season, it does seem increasingly apparent from your comments and recent results that his was a poor appointment, and to get comfortably beat in easily your easiest away game left, basically rolling over against a team who have only just avoided relegation, and aren't even that far away as away Carlisle games go, suggests a real lack of passion and spirit in the side, and surely the bulk of the blame for that has to lie firmly with the manager. And to have a got at the players, HIS own players now, for lacking professionalism and fight at this critical stage of the season shows a desperate man clearly feeling the heat and pressure - surely he knew what was in store for him and the challenge involved when he took on the job in the first place?

For what it's worth I still think you along with Tranmere will scrape enough points to survive, if only because teams getting successive relegations from the third tier to non-league is a pretty rare occurrence (IIRC only Stockport have done it in living memory), let alone two in the same season, even if it might be despite rather than because of Curle's efforts. Cheltenham to go down, and Hartlepool (who've been on a great run of form but may struggle to keep it up) to join them, just (doesn't look like anyone else will be involved from where I'm standing).
