I like Politic. He's clearly got ability and that little point of difference that is often lacking in league 2. His best position is probably coming in off the left but we haven't really played a formation to suit him so far. The only time we did against Colchester at home, he terrorised them first half. He's a great impact player but I'd like to see him do it more consistently when starting. Alternatively, just give him a free role but I don't think that is Clarke's style.

I think we'll change systems as we go through the last 25 games, so I can see him playing a big part.

I must admit does seem a low offer. Funnily enough his dad played for both Barnsley and us

Don’t think Ollie Banks and Andy Cook saw eye to eye with one another during their time together at Tranmere.

Was A terrible piece of business by Keith Hill letting Banks go.

We have David Wheater training with us following an operation. Think he last played for Oldham. Hopefully he could still do a job at NLN if fit, as we are desperately short of CB's with Jake Lawlor returning to Hartlepool and Jake Cooper to Rotherham. Doesn't look like either will be returned to us.

Vale fans… Evatt has said today that we won’t be recalling politic, that we offered him a contract earlier in season that was turned down…and we won’t be offering him another one so we are drawing a line under it. Looks like he’s free to leave at the end of the season for compo/free. Quite stunned to be honest.

At least for all parties now everyone knows where they stand on it. Be great if we could put some sort of deal together for him permanently. Only real question mark I have on him is can he produce over a full 90 minutes as he has yet to really prove that when he has started. Think we'd see the best of him if we went to a 3-4-3 but that does risk getting overrun in midfield depending who we picked.

saddler78 Just for your info DC was asked about rumours with Devante Rodney in his press conference yesterday and below is his response. Not sure how much you can glean from it as he doesn't expressly confirm or deny:-

ARE YOU LOOKING TO MAYBE MOVE MORE PLAYERS ON? WOULD YOU ACCEPT AN OFFER FOR DEVANTE BECAUSE, FROM WHAT I HEAR, WALSALL AND STOCKPORT HAVE AN INTEREST IN HIM?

“Is that right George? I always say this, and forgive me for sitting on the fence. You will find out the news as soon as we make a signing or someone leaves the football club.

“There will always be rumours of certain things but don’t always believe everything you hear George.”

Wheater has been touting himself to Pools something chronic. I hope we are steering well clear.

You can have Lawlor, he's barely had a chance here but no way is he league standard. A total shit the pants bottom of the barrel signing.

Owura Edwards-Owura has been recalled by Bristol City.
So that's one in and one out.

Rumour we had bid £40k for Barrow's Ollie Banks rejected. His dad played for us in the 90's

Any Bluebirds on here heard anything?
Cooper has pretty much confirmed this saying we turned down a bid for a player because it didn't meet the club's valuation. He's out of contract in the summer, but is vital to us moving away from the relegation zone.

He also said the under 23 league is a bit shit for looking for new players as there's never any tackles just possession football - we've signed three loanees from that market, so presumably they're all players who have shown a bit more than just technical ability.

We never disclose fees. I reckon about 80-100k.
Kane is a good striker. It’s a good signing.
At league 2 he will tear it up. Surprised we let him go, but we have moult who is now ready to go. He can drift out of games and be lazy but on his day he is outstanding. Ask Crewe fans last season, he scored a hat trick at gresty road.
good luck to him. Top bloke and a Albion fan. Sad to see him go.
Would that really be an 'offer we couldn't refuse' from Burton's perspective? Or was he out of contract in the summer?

I think The Terminator has touched on it already but Archibald is staying there now. We thought about recalling but he picked up an injury although more importantly, Appleton wants him to have a settled, full season of football after having not really played for two years and he's not out of contract until 2023 so we'll make a decision on him in the summer.

I'd much rather let Banks go for free in the summer than settle for a cut price now. We're even poorer than we have been recently without him in the team, plus there's no chance we'd get a just as capable replacement.

Ash Taylor has left to go to Kilmarnock. Good to get a high earner who has been poor of the wage bill. Though that does mean that we will probably be playing youngster Tom Leak at CB tomorrow at Mansfield.

We now need a left back (as ours is the worst in the league), a CB to replace Taylor and a striker.

Rumour that we're the club Luke Charman has rejected after meeting the release clause.

Not even remotely surprised to see a lad playing part time reject us. Bet we offered him a lower wage than what he's on at Darlington.

Suppose it also depends on what he does in his normal day job. Combine that with whatever Darlo pay him it could already work out more than many get in the professional game, it's happened with some players in the past. It's a gamble by him though unless he's confident of more interest from elsewhere it might be his one and only shot at getting signed.

Scott Burgess has left the club by mutual consent, somewhat sad this hasn't worked out since DC came in as Jake Taylor and Burgess were excellent in the first season together in 19/20 and he looked a really good prospect.

Scored a couple of very good goals against Swindon and Macclesfield but was told he was transfer listed last season with Whitehead and Robinson, felt it was harsh on Burgess, he certainly wasn't as bad as the other two but he managed to work hard to get a recall in November to the squad and made a couple of appearances.

Good luck Scott. Assume with Jake Taylor being injured long term leaving us only really 4 central midfielders for 3 spots we will be bringing one in (possibly why he has left today if one is about done).

I'm almost certain that Burgess has somewhere else lined up and we've just agreed a termination now to let it go through quickly for him. Good luck to him though as he is a decent player it's just realistically with Conlon, Pett, Garrity, Walker and Taylor (if he ever gets fit again) ahead of him he's just not going to play for us.

Unofficial Vale is hinting at that Dean Campbell from Aberdeen as the player we are bringing in.

Just had a google on him, Bolton and FGR were sniffing around allegedly as well, looks to have been a regular for Aberdeen and played for the Scottish youth sides up to an U-21 call up so looks to have something about him, have to see on that one, difficult to unseat any of the three currently playing I guess.

Interest from Rochdale and Stockport as well apparently.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but Ryan Watson gone to Salford from Tranmere undisclosed fee.

Mansfield still waiting on O’Toole who has a contract offer from Donny, the problem is the length of the contract which I gather is a long term offer from them that we don’t seem to be willing to match, a sign of the change at Mansfield because a few year back we’d have blown Doncaster out the water and signed him straight away.

Menayese gone to Walsall for a undisclosed fee, O’Driscoll gone to Ireland on a free transfer and O’Keefe is expected to be gone shortly too, plus a few young lads out on loan in non-league.

We need to get cover in for LB/LWB, Clough mentioned we may get a striker in but if we sort out CB It will enable Oli Hawkins to play upfront again, I think we will extend Will Forrester loan but he’s currently out injured and depends on that.

Been talking us up since summer as well, how he get's on well with Armstrong etc. Any port in a storm. As for Lawlor, can you tell the club we can have him. They seem reluctant.

I thought it was Rochdale he rejected this week?

Yeah, like Masi said, Bolton were quite good with him while we was out injured... don't think he played at all under Evatt though so it could be that the two of them don't get along. But that would surprise me as Evatt seems like such a cuddly and lovable character, can't imagine him falling out with anyone.
Evatt is one of those that I would hate if he was the opposition manager but love him because he’s our manager. Just like when we had Diouf.

Kieran Wallace from Burton. Not sure if he's going to be cover for Macca or a replacement for O'Toole. Clough obviously rates him but he's had a bad injury and just had a month or 2 at York

Ryan Watson is a strange one. He was one of our marquee signings in the summer and one of our highest earners, but has offered nothing really. He came with a reputation as a goalscorer midfielder but never broke into the box, albeit he was played quite deep at times, and did not seem to have any other attributes as a midfielder.

He must be a better player than the one we saw and I wish him well at Salford, but there is a danger he will join Henderson, McAleny and others in their list of highly paid, underachieving players.

We have effectively swapped him for Kane Hemmings, which is a good bit of business.

Re. Ollie Banks, I liked him when he was here, but he is not consistent enough for a promotion challenging side in my view (although we did win promotion with him in the squad !).

Not out of contract. It is a weird one, we are not that hard up for 80 grand or so. Maybe he has fell out with the manager and they want to get rid. Either way tranmere have got a bargain.

Agreed.

Happy it’s Watson that’s gone and not Morris or Spearing to make way for the Hemmings signing. (Fingers crossed)

Seems like this is done? I’m presuming cover for Macca but it’s always going to be difficult to get somebody that knows they are purely a back up.
