Luton have rejected a £750,000 bid from Brentford and Barnsley for Cameron McGeehan. Would equate to £460,000 of profit for us (not including salaries) - that is an astonishing amount of money for this level to turn down.

I also saw something about Coventry City bidding £500,000 for Glen Rea - can't imagine that being true, as we only signed him for £40,000 back in July.

We have signed Dean Henderson, goalkeeper from Man Utd until Jan

Interesting signing, called up to England under 20 side and highly rated at Man U, can't imagine they would allow him to come here and just sit on the bench.....

Energetic, tenacious, tough tackling midfielder. Won't offer much going forward but he'll cover every blade of grass and will get stuck in when he needs to.

I hope Gilliead starts for Luton, he'll fit neatly into our defence's back pocket when we play them assuming he hasn't improved too much over summer. He had a couple of good games for us but also a lot of average ones, and his best game was actually against a late-30s full back who was only in due to injuries.

I find it strange that he'd go to Luton though as I assume they'll have promised him some first team football, but if we weren't willing to offer him that then I can't see how another promotion hopeful could. He needs to sort out his defensive work and get to a consistent level of effort and then maybe he'll be a first team player.
Give him a break... he's only 20 years old! Getting a full season at 19 last season is a good achievement for any footballer. He's also played several times for all the major England age groups.

Heard anything about Harriman leaving? Asking for a friend.
On a 3year contract mate with 2 years left, had a poor start to the season, actually he was brilliant on loan but soon as he signed last season he went downhill.Much better playing right midfield than as a right back. Would be very surprised if he left though with all the players we have injured but if the right offer from a higher division come in who knows?

Cameron McJannet has signed for Stoke for an undisclosed fee. Member of our all conquering youth team last year. Was probably earmarked as the next one to be offered a pro deal. Disappointing I suppose, however if thats the only player (Mark O Brien and Magnus Okuonghae aside. Anyone fancy a pair of crocked centre halves?) to leave today we've done bloody well. Undisclosed but rumoured to be 150K and a lot of clauses.

Sounds strange to say as he has just stepped up to a Prem set-up, but I'm not sure how well-rated he actually was here? Jones specifically name-checked him about a month ago as the member of last season's youth back four who was furthest away from first team football. He played James Justin (a central midfielder-cum-right back) at left back ahead of him, and today again Jones has said his pathway is blocked here even though we only have one real left-back currently.

http://www.lutontown.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/cameron-mcjannett-luton-town-stoke-city-3284281.aspx

Obviously bound to be some spin on it from our end, but Jones's words make it sound like we sacrificed him to give us a cash boost good enough to turn down other bids for our players we would prefer to keep. Works for me!

Hope the lad goes on to great things, another one off the treadmill which can never be a bad thing for our ability to attract other young players. Hopefully he'll have a better pathway to the first team than Jay Dasilva, who'd be playing first team football for more or less any other team in the country by now (and Chelsea have just gone and spunked more stupid millions on yet another average left back from the continent who'll be unwanted in 18 months time, what a waste).

£150,000 for a player that probably wasn't going to be offered a full pro deal - that's good business!

Will be allowed to play in the "Checkatrade Trophy" for Stoke U23+, but not for us?

I heard Ainsworth's interview last night - he said he only had 15 fit first teamers and he's going to be scrapping around for more tonight I think.

Most of our injured will be out for months not weeks so he had to sign at least 2 players.

Signed winger Jack Stacey on loan from Reading till January, what's he like Carlisle fans?

Also got Luke Croll from Palace...Argyle fans think he's dire but only played three games there, whereas Palace fans say he's a decent prospect. Will have to see how he does before drawing too many conclusions.

Former Carlisle youth, was very highly rated here until United snatched him off us for barely anything.

Stacey should be a good signing for you, scored a cracker for us last season and played well for the most part. He seemed pretty quick and was very direct, liked running at his man and he's good at it too which is more than can be said about a lot of wingers at this level.

I don't really get this - if he wasn't on a pro deal (which was my understanding) then surely the only fee Stoke had to pay was whatever the EPPP bullshit dictated, which (give our academy status) would have been a lot less than £150k up front I would think.

But West Side Vinny (of Outlaws fame) flatly contradicted someone earlier who said we would only get the EPPP price for him, and WSV is always right about this kind of stuff. Weird.

Joined the academy aged 9 - 3 years x £3,000 per year = £9,000.
5 years at £12,500 per year min = £60,000. Total £69,000. Not sure what happens after age 16?
Of course, it doesn't stop some teams overpaying this compensation, does it?

Why wasn't he going to be offered a pro deal? Surely if Stoke think he's worth 150k then he's more than good enough to eventually get a pro deal at Luton.

Well, perhaps I'm twisting Nathan Jones' words a little bit - he said he was further away from the first team than his counterparts. He probably would've been involved last night, but we've got Akin Famewo and James Justin as academy full backs, the former the same age, preferred.

He'd tackle your granny... not my words but the words of Keith Curle. Good little player, helped us out a lot last season when we were looking a bit like pushovers. He was well liked by the fans and think he picked up a man-of-the-match award in one game. Did pick up a red for a bad tackle in another though (or was it two yellows?). Good tackler but inexperienced. He'll get a roar out of the fans the first few times the opponents' flair player is on the ball and Comley slides in, gets the ball and leaves the player on the ground.

We pinched him from Non-League Wingate and Finchley, he was a very good young prospect when we got him - But he could never really force his way into the first team. He made a fair few appearances - mainly from the bench, but to be honest he never made the desired impact.

Last season Ian Hendon said he was good enough to be our 4th choice striker - But Kashket never took his chance well enough, when he got on the pitch his decision making on the whole wasn't good enough, he is also very very lightweight. He is however very quick and loves running behind defenders and technically he is alright.

He did score a last minute equaliser for us at home to Oxford last season, which got us a 2-2 draw and it was a very good finish from and Ollie Palmer knock down, on the half volley - His one and only career goal so far.

He may well turn out to be good for you, as he always had a small bit of promise but his decision making was never good enough. He also (like many others in the last 2 seasons) fell out with our mad owner and the clubs heirachy, which meant he has been training with the youth team since pre season and was left in limbo.

See Grimsby have also signed Dean Henderson, supposedly a good goalkeeper and was in our youth system but these days if a club like us has anyone half decent in the academy a Premier League team will be swooping in to add them to their armada of young talent like a city trader building a share portfolio, long before they even make our U18 team.

It's a bit of a weird one. He was a prominent meber of the youth side last year and many have been given pro deals. It seemed inevitable that he would be the next one to but it never came. With Potts and Sheehan unavailable for the Villa game it seemed like he would play, but Jones opted to play another youth team player out of position instead.

With Sheehan and Dan Potts left back and James Justin coming through, it's unlikely he would get a break any time soon, so maybe that's why they decide to cash in. Or maybe we offered him a deal and he chose to move, who knows. One thing to note is that a few in the know types are adament that as good as last years crop was, the lot coming in behind them are even better, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Fair play to our Board of Directors however, because it must've been extremely tempting. Trying to reaffirm to our supporters that we're not a selling club.*

But as has been mentioned earlier in the thread, a 21-year old goalscoring midfielder. Almost priceless and irreplaceable at any level.

*For the record, every club bar Real Madrid and Barcelona are "selling clubs" if the price is right.
