Well I never.

Sold 25 odd league goals in Mcgeehan, Marriott and Vassell; signed 40 odd in Collins and Berry; profited to the tune of over £2m in the process if the rumoured fees are nearly accurate. Not bloody bad.

Seriously what the fuck united! What happened to not selling to another club in our division, let alone that shower.

We've gone backwards and will continue to go backwards, our recruitment process is dire, we've signed a bunch of average joes playing awful football under a manager who just sucks the life out of you for 90mins, as for selling Luke to someone in our division for an unsurprisingly undisclosed fee, just grow some balls ffs and say no.

Jez will come under some serious grief after his comments earlier in the window and deservedly so.

KEEP THE FUCKING FAITH!!!!!!

Although on the rumoured fee thing, from the CUFC statement it doesn't sound like there was a release clause as they rejected two bids and only accepted a higher one after Berry forced the move. So could be £250k as rumoured or could be more (or indeed less, who knows).

Only my beloved Cufc can sell a better player for peanuts to a club who just sold their best player for 5x as much!

Unbelievable.

11 goals from CM for a truly abysmal side last season is very good. That said he's not the finished article and he's certainly not ready for the second tier and I fear it's another case of the club pimping out its players far too early yet again.

Had a setback coming back to fitness but I'm surprised a club have bid for him despite him missing the whole of pre-season due to injury. I don't see how he'd even get into the Preston side as well...

Wouldn't be in the first team right away, we just need back up for our first choice midfielders and at 21 he's someone we can develop. Bit like Tom Barkhuizen, bed him in and hope he can take his chance when it comes.

We will struggle to afford players who are instantly better than what we already have so we've got to look for hidden gems and give them time to get up to speed.

Cambridge fans, Luke Summerfield would be a good replacement for a Berry, I reckon a cheeky 500k bid for him might tempt us to sell him.

He's a really nice bloke who has bags of experience and has played at the top of League 1. But his legs have gone and he was worth a mistake a match. Despite the fact we literally had no other senior centre backs besides him and Leon Legge, he still wasn't getting picked for us which tells you a lot. I wish him all the best though.

If he's only worth one mistake a match then he'll be doing better than what we have

The CUFC messageboard, Twitter and the like have gone into meltdown, when Kevin Ellison invariably sticks the winner past us in the 88th minute after watching 87 mins of the ball 30 foot in the air (Derryball) the atmosphere at the Abbey will be toxic. Actually glad I'm not going.

I don't think Cambridge had any other option than to sell. An unsettled player can have a negative affect on team spirit as we have found out to our cost. Cambridge just have to move on and use the money to bring in a replacement which they now have the funds to do. For us its a great signing and gives us so many goal scoring options, although I still think we need strengthening in the centre of defence. To be honest I want this transfer window ended so that we can get on with the task in hand. With the squad we've assembled we really should go up.

Don't wanna take the shine off Luton's new signing, but we've just signed 19 year old defender James Brown on loan from Millwall.

You know what I find funny in all of this, Jez saying we won't be selling to a fellow L2 club, and the fact the we indeed did so has got nothing to do with it. I mean this is Division 4 footy ffs not the PL or the Spanish Liga. I get it when a Wenger or a Klopp say they won't sell to another top 4 challenger but coming up with such crap when your club is only a 4th div one is just ridiculous.

We're well on our way to witnessing Sunday league managers claiming they won't allow that coke addict they've got at left back to join another pub side.

We are renewing our interest in Tyler Walker after his loan last season, depends if a L1 club comes in though.

He got the winner for Forest at Newcastle so would be surprised if they let him go out.

Dan Gleeson - ex CUFC, mates with Berry and came through the youth team a couple of years ahead of him has said 300k. Its hardly cast iron but likely true.

300k is an absolute snip. Weve signed Collins and Berry for 550k, Sold Jack Marriott for 450k (as much as I rate him this is all win/win). Fucking love our board.

Why is it only Luton fans that know how much they sell and buy players for precisely each time despite them all being undisclosed?!?! Not fair!

Not sure Dan Gleeson counts as a Luton fan!

A Luton fan on twitter who does have a really good record on our transfer dealings this summer (I admit I was sceptical of him previously but he's got everything right more or less this year) is claiming it's £250k up front with a potential of up to £150k in add-ons based on team performances over the duration of the contract (the only way we'd pay the full £150k is if we won both League Two and League One during that time if he is to be believed).

SVH (Cambridge fan) also claimed it was £250k up front so there's a few people bandying around similar figures, who the fuck knows though...

I don't even know who Dan Gleeson is so it certainly was not me suggesting he's a Luton fan.

Berry is a great signing for Luton, but you have to question the lads ambition and desire, taking such a sideways step.
Only a sideways step because both clubs are in the same division. I reckon Luton will be going up and will defo be paying more. So in the med to long turn not a sideways step.

It's all just disappointing really, there are so many things that aren't "nice" about the deal.
- Jez saying we won't sell to anyone in our league
- Berry putting in a transfer request so late in the window
- Selling to Luton (however you cut it, there's been some needle there over the years) and him wanting to go there
- Selling our best asset for way under market value, whatever that may be

It all just leads to me thinking we are not streetwise when it comes to the transfer market and that we lack any ambition to get out of this division.

My overriding feeling isn't anger or sadness, just disillusion more than anything. He's a wonderful player but it's hard to want to wish him well given the four points I've listed.

Anyway, fuck it. He's gone. Move on.

Without being too disrespectful, what are Cambridge expecting to achieve as a club?

It's a sideways step. He's got a whole season minimum ahead of him in this league.

I'd imagine he could have gone to a big club, league 1 minimum.

Dan Gleeson is a U's fan so deffo not a Hatter.

I'm always sceptical of the figures quoted on FB/MB and so on, as it only takes one guy to make up an imaginary number and everybody else treating it as gospel and running away with it. FWIW, I've also seen 350k (I highly doubt it's as high as that), 300k and 280k quoted so I guess it's fair to say the actual figure is somewhere in the region of 250k-300k plus add ons.

Well, not quite as exceptional as Berry to Luton (we have to face him three times this season) but Crawley have signed Ibrahim Meite on loan from Cardiff. A young forward who was previously at non league Harrow Borough. It seems he did make one or two appearances for the first team last season but is considered to be "not quite ready" for the top of the championship.

...in other news Andre Blackman has left us by mutual consent and Addison Garnett has joined Whitehawk on loan for a month.

Whitehawk are in deep trouble in their league. Four games without a win. At least Garnett will fell at home!
