Promotion just like Luton presumably
I don't know about other U's fans but the aim should be play offs (minimum) this season. Other than our first season back and since receiving the Man U money, it's always been play offs in supporters' eyes. However today does make you question whether those running the club feel the same way.

Without being too disrespectful, what are Cambridge expecting to achieve as a club?

Sweet fa Kenny. My theory is that we'll still suffering the consequences of the big wages we were dishing out to some of the players back when Dickie Dosh was still here, but ended up being sacked and Derry came in.

And oh btw, I still blame Derry for not making the play offs that season as we had more than enough quality in that side. But our Shaun opted to play it safe after starting like a house on fire and giving most of our fans a false idea of how he wanted us to play. 'Course he threw caution to the wind in that first month he was here, if his adventurous tactics didn't work out then he was covered by the fact that it wasn't his side as such. It's such a common football tactic employed by virtually all managers whenever they take up an new position.

Derry, you were sussed out by a small minority of U's fans after only some 30 days into your new job.

And with that off my chest, I have to say I'm feeling better already.

I get the CUFC disappointment, we've all lost fav players for less than we think we should have got - and there's a little extra as it's to us, as there is a rivalry of sorts. Think what you sold him for to Barnsley, then the difference in buying him back. Big profit I'd guess. It seems likely part of the return deal included a cheap buy out clause and maybe he wouldn't have returned without it.

It's exciting time for us, but no chickens have hatched yet. Young side, young Manager, lots of new parts and styles and its hard to see where they will all fit, without people getting pissy at not playing. Going to take some excellent man Management skills we don't know if Jones posseses yet. Plus everyone will want out scalp even more. Should be a fun season.

It's all just disappointing really, there are so many things that aren't "nice" about the deal.
- Jez saying we won't sell to anyone in our league
- Berry putting in a transfer request so late in the window
- Selling to Luton (however you cut it, there's been some needle there over the years) and him wanting to go there
- Selling our best asset for way under market value, whatever that may be

It all just leads to me thinking we are not streetwise when it comes to the transfer market and that we lack any ambition to get out of this division.

My overriding feeling isn't anger or sadness, just disillusion more than anything. He's a wonderful player but it's hard to want to wish him well given the four points I've listed.

Anyway, fuck it. He's gone. Move on.

Fair enough Laker, but there are a couple things I don't agree with. Liverpool are adamant they're not selling Coutinho and yet we all know how that's going to turn out don't we? Trust me, while I'm well aware of the good work Jez did and I hope still does for the club, I'm not his biggest fan and I wouldn't want to work with him that's for sure. But I believe he only said that 'won't sell to another L2 club' just so to attract interest from the bigger clubs and hopefully start a bidding war. It didn't work but I can hardly blame him for trying.

Whatever you and I think of Luton - fwiw I see them as just another club - they are on the up and have made a clear statement of intent with some of their recent signings. I'd be very surprised if they don't win the title this year, never mind going up, so if I were Luke I wouldn't hesitate to go down there esp as location is very important to Berry and his gf. Then there's also the fact that Derry is under a lot of heat presently and I'm sure Berry thought of that as well. Again, if I were Luke, I'd ask myself questions like how much time will the BOD give Derry, and will the man who comes in his place play me at my preferred position. Luke may have got 22 goals last season, but if he were to have a poor season with us this year (and tbh it's not looking like we're in for a great season) then he'd be back to square one and pretty much everybody will have forgotten all about those 22 goals.

Someone wrote earlier they fucking love our board. If Gary Sweet left it would be like losing a hundred Berry's. He is the man.

How much do you lot want for him?

Seriously though, Gary Sweet's position will always be a fluctuating one, popularity-wise. The Luton fans may think he's the son of God right now but wait 'til he makes a couple of poor judgement calls. Trust me he will definitely make a few, as that's the nature of the job.

Luton Town will never be a big club regardless of signings. You'll see when you see our pitch and changing rooms - that's a big club. Players come and go, a lovely playing surface is forever

For me its never fluctuated. Him and 2020 have taken the club from a position where it would have been easier to fold and restart ala AFC Wimbledon to something genuinely exciting to be a part of. They never settle and always want more - but do it within a sustainable business model. I think you'd be hard pushed to find 5 better boards Championship down on how we are being run. (Although at a loss whilst at KR - that issue is being addressed). Without the new stadium taken into account as well. However with the new stadium being all but approved (uproar if it doesnt happen now), I am genuinely buzzing for the next 10 years.

Plenty of Luton fans in the 'clique' have sides and personal issues with Sweet etc, includong those close to previous boards/scumbags who want to bitterly derail things. Then you have the usual retards that most teams have. Clappy sticks and mostly dicks.

Fuck all. As long as the balance sheet looks nice and healthy they aren't bothered how the football team is performing. Those figures will be looking nice and rosy when we're back in non league playing in front of 1700 fans again Jeremy mate

Our stadium has always been too small for us and in the wrong part of town as well as belonging to another era despite its charm. Unfortunately for County your stadium is far too big for you which must affect the atmosphere. I can't imagine the players are impressed seeing so many empty seats week in week out. I guess the plan when built was to rely on big away support to fill your ground. Not so easy in the lower leagues and made more difficult by your larger more successful neighbour attracting most of the local fans. KR is a dump agreed but the plans for a new stadium are in the advance stages. A modern centre of town stadium designed with the fans in mind. Most Luton fans don't think we are a big club however we have the potential to get back to a higher level. Our newly aquired training ground is championship standard and a stones throw from the new stadium land. I'd much rather be in our situation to be honest than Countys.

What smurf said. Hes got it right time after time, after time. Not cut corners or sold our soul like we've been used to. Businessman for sure and I'm certain there are some sore people out there but its all for the good of Luton Town. We are in a great place after decades of disasters.

All that said I so wish we were Notts County....it would be so cool to be THE oldest club rather than just the Oldest Southern professional Club. I guess you gotta just roll with what you got.

99 problems but our pitch ain't one.

There's a reason we are able to attract so much ex-Premier League talent like Ameobi, Stead, Smith and Hunt.

Emptiest stadium in the 92... representin'!!! :)

The difference with Coutinho at Liverpool is he has a five year contract. Of course he could turn shit and try and force a move but that might not work out too well for him either.

I am a lousy cook and love to watch the various food programs that clutter up numerous tv channels.
It is perceived that if you have the best ingredients then your food will taste wonderful....but it ain't always the way.
A lot of shit is served up by people who can't follow simple recipes regardless of expense or quality of the products bought.
Too much of this...not enough of that...not utilising the correct ingredients to get the best results.
I have a deep seated doubt that jones has the ability/experience to bring out the best of what he has now got to choose from and produce a winning team regardless of the quality of the goods.....
Hope I'm proven wrong...

Is it because you've had gullible boards and managers willing to offer them contracts?

Sort of snuck under the radar, buried in the talk about the signing of the century. But we've brought in a 19 year old full-back on loan from Millwall. We didn't have a back-up left back... now we do, wooty-woot... of course if he turns out to be shit then we're back to square one. James Brown... know nothing about him.

I hope you're right and he can play left back but Millwall say he's a right back.

The morning after the day before. The day Ousmane Dembele and Luke Berry shook the transfer world.

It's going to be interesting to see the knock on effects between now and Thursday night.
