We've signed Steven Schumacher today. Former Bury and Fleetwood midfielder. He was a player I rated back in his Bury days, not sure how he got on at Fleetwood though - if he hasn't declined too much in the last couple of years then I think this will be a pretty good signing for us.

If Portsmouth don't go up this season then it must surely go down as a massive failure. I'd love to see how much money they're spending to attract players from a league above.

How comes I don't get one of the infamous oakroader poems in reply? :(
WSBee please accept my profound apologies for not replying in rhyme
it just didn't seem appropriate to do so at that moment in time.
i don't know what started this pathetic on line feuding
but obviously something ongoing has been hovering and brewing.
lets just agree to abide to a common methodology
and leave it to football not petty juvenile kidology
we all at times like to give our opinions
but we dont have to act like stupid minions
the banter should be shared and taken in good taste
cause quite frankly i dont have that much more time to waste!!

They might be players from the league above, but playing for Portsmouth is infinitely more appealing than playing in front of Chesterfield or Burton regardless of current league position. I'm sure they are splashing the cash a bit, but Pompey are a HUGE draw at this level which is a big factor in a player's decision too.

Without a doubt, especially considering we now have Paul Cook in charge. I think the plan is to do what Bristol City did last season in league 1 but I have a feeling it won't be quite as comfortable as they made it.

As if players care about playing in front of larger crowds. Pompey are just paying them higher wages, which is cool, that's how life works.

I reckon playing and probably winning most weeks in front of 16,000 people at League Two level is a more attractive prospect than playing and probably losing most weeks in front of 3,000 people at League One level - even if the wage offered was identical (which it won't be of course).

For a player who will probably never make it higher than League One level, I reckon playing at a massive club like Pompey is probably more of a factor than "testing themselves at a higher level" or whatever. For career lower league footballers I don't think dropping down a division makes a jot of difference. I don't doubt for a minute that Pompey are paying big wages, but I do really doubt that they would need to offer Adam McGurk (or Gary Roberts or whoever) a particularly large salary boost to entice him back down here.

players dont even care if theyre NOT playing as long as they get paid!!
portsmouth, however,is a sleeping giant or a phoenix awaiting rebirth,
a different kettle of fish altogether...certainly on the up.

Playing well in League 1 means you have a shot of getting a move to the Championship though, and that's where you're talking about a really good wage. Dropping down a league just means you'll probably be stuck in League 1/2 for your career which shouldn't really be that attractive, and that's why I would imagine Portsmouth need to be offering bigger wages than the League 1 teams. This is all funded by their bigger crowds of course, but the bigger crowds in themselves wouldn't be enough for a player to go back to the bottom of the football league in my opinion.

Junior Brown has left us to go to Shrewsbury... Was hoping he would be off somewhere, was outstanding on loan, got his contract then he was shit, faked injuries, and got sent off to have a few weeks off... absolutely rubbish and can't see him doing anything other sitting on the bench or in the sands in league one

Is he average then? Probably fit in with the level of signings Mansfield have made so far

Yet you all cried when collins left you to go to that league one club? who was it he signed for...

Cant say much about northamptons signings, wont change an bog standard mid table side much. Potter, Lelan, Buchanan and adams wow.... The better of those will probably turn out like O'toole. That wonder signing was good wasn't he?

Adam Barton has agreed a deal with us. I'll be honest I've not heard off him but from Coventry.

Is that good or bad, Dion's Head?

In my opinion he is not a good footballer and is probably out of place in League 2. Liverpool bid £2m for him back when he was having a good season with Preston but then he broke his leg and it still affects him now because he bottles tackles all the time.

I guess if he can get over that problem and get involved in games more then he might be a good player for you. I wouldn't hold your breath though, we gave him 3 years and showed no improvement.

We've signed Omar Sowunmi from Ipswich and Shaun Jeffers from Newport, both of whom were in the trial games.

We've signed Scott Shearer as rumoured.

So.... Meh.

Meh?? We've not had an experienced League keeper for years! I feel better with him in net over studer and Pidegely!!

We've signed former Blades keeper Simon Tracey as a part-time goalkeeping coach. Hopefully he's less shit and alcoholic than Caig.

Barton is a luxury player. He has the ability but ever since his triple leg break for PNE, he hasn't been the same player. If you partner him with a combative midfielder, he'll do well in league two.

Club have confirmed that they rejected two offers from Barnsley.

Good stuff.

As we all know, TK will only accept an offer that is right for the club and I think that would be in excess of 250k plus a sell-on fee.
