Have you ever wondered why you often read things in the press like 'Club A have been granted permission by Club B to speak to their manager'? They aren't doing it that way out of kindness, they're doing it because that's what they are required to do.

If you wanna treat it as a standard fixed term employment contract then we would be within our rights to make Edwards and Kyle see out their notice, which obviously doesn't happen in football.

It's a business like any other..there's no loyalty.....players and managers should look out for themselves and their family...no one else matters. He was only with us for a brief time but had some different job title that basically ultimately meant he was involved in our academy rather than the first team. Think he split his time with us and managing Colne in the Northern Premier. Not to say he isn’t a good coach but whether that’s sufficient experience is another matter.

He has been super fortunate that the last three managers he has appointed did a better than excellent job: -

# Ady Pennock managed the team to the play-offs with the club’s historical highest ever points tally of 89 points in one season.
# Mark Cooper secured promotion in his first season as manager and then took club to two further play-offs.
# Rob Edwards secured promotion in his one year with club.

Where credit must be given to Vince is that he has shown that he is prepared to allow managers time to do the business. At one time Mark Cooper was amongst the longest serving managers in football league. That is why there will be a hundred or more applicants for the vacant position.
Dale Vince’s flaw is that he sacks his managers at wrong time of season. Both Pennock & Cooper were sacked after they both managed team into a place in the play-offs, which needless to say FGR lost on both occasions.
If Vince had held his nerve FGR could perhaps have been playing in Football League 1 a couple of years earlier.

It is interesting how the club’s playing style has evolved over the years. When Pennock was in charge he hated team conceding a single goal. 1-0 victories to him was gold dust.
Mark Cooper insisted on his team keeping possession by playing out from the back. Sideway passes became the norm.
Whereas Rob Edwards allowed his team the freedom to roam. He was not overly concerned that they might lose ball possession or concede a goal or two because, as shown with title win, he knew the players would win it back. Attractive football it is called.

Of the last three managers it is only Edwards that the supporters had overwhelming affection for. Mind you he did have a fantastic start to his FGR career by topping League table from virtually beginning of season and staying there for practically every week until title win. And unlike Cooper he had tremendous rapport with the fans by smiling and acknowledging them on every occasion.
In truth he has left the new manager large boots to fill.

As both Ady Pennock and Cooper ended up going from FGR to Barrow i think it's inevitable and unfortunate that Edwards will not last long at Watford and will end up as our 2nd or 3rd manager next season...
