Why wasn't Bignot interested in the Barrow job? Reasonable appointment for Chester. I'm surprised Moore has done enough to get the Barrow post.

Time will tell. Not sure what he's done to get his reputation - manager of an average Solihull team until he was given enough cash to get promoted by adopting much of the ex-Kidderminster side. Poor at Grimsby and unpopular with the players there too... Maybe he'll work out, but I wouldn't be confident as a Chester fan he'll be any savior....

Bignot wasn't poor for us, he wasn't here five minutes, was brought in to build for the long term, so tried too and then sacked the moment we were mathematically safe because we weren't in the play offs! Also lost our two best players on the final day of Jan transfer window.

Most of our current best players were Bignot signings.

Who knows how he will do but given time to build his side I think he will turn out to be a good manager.

Bit of a treck for the whole town to move to Barrow ;)

I think the fact that Moore brought him in to help out, to then apply and go head-to-head for the job would be a proper shitty thing to do. Plus it seems Moore was given assurances the job was his anyway.

Basically, it looks like they've said to Moore, the job is yours, but get them playing good football - over six games it's gone to shit, but too late to really go back on it, so they've taken the cheap option.

A mess. The statement tries to dress up that performances have improved - on Saturday it was the first time for years that I've seen players look disinterested. The subs spent half-time sat on the bench FFS!

Injury crisis, small squad, toxic fanbase, I am starting to fear the worst, to be honest.

As Frealaf said. Bignot's treatment here was sickening to be honest as he was meant to be the next long term appointment for us, sort of a like for like once Hurst left. Fenty backed him in the January transfer window to start building for the next season to only go and sack him shortly after. Sure he did some daft things like experiment with lineups in big local games and we got smashed a few times but even towards the end of his tenure it was still early days. He deserved at the very least around this time now.

Anyway my point is that he'll be a good appointment for Chester if they give him the time work out his ideas and back him all the way. He's very adamant about evolving the club he's with so he absolutely needs the support from the board. Expect to see a lot of tinkering with some baffling formations and players in dodgy positions but trust that the man has an idea and you'll start to see it eventually. It might take 3-5 years but I've got faith that he can do a good job at any club at this level and eventually higher.

One of the reasons Bignot was sacked was because he had a tendency to hang his players out to dry in the media.

The Barrow job like the Grimsby one may have proved to big for him, Solihull was probably about the right size of club, and he did well there. So Chester, with a similar fan base, should be a good fit for him.
I would like to say I wish him good luck, but I won't as that would be a lie. Where they are in the table now is fine - maybe 5th bottom, just for us to have another Welsh derby, if we don't fluke getting up through the play offs.

Not many clubs will give manager 3-5 years to come good.

Very true but depends on what Chester's ambitions are. If he can keep them up and make steady, if small, improvements in league positions over the coming seasons then you'd think they'd be happy with that, as a lot of clubs should be imo. Too many looking for a quick fix.

We have given keates 3 years... though some of our fans have actually called for his head when we were 3rd. Football may not be free flowing but it would be madness to sack him in my opinion.

The Barrow job was too big for him but Chester is about the right size. You card you. :brill:

Bignot is a work in progress. Good in the transfer market and is capable of a tactical masterclass. However, he does do some odd and terrible team selections, bad in the media, waffles a lot, was supposedly not good on the training pitch and just generally needs to be more professional. Would've liked him to stay to see what would happen.

Bignot's head is the size of Solihull.

Ah right, so he hasn't actually been given three years to get it right. A contract's not worth the paper it's printed on.

Some of our fans wouldn't give manager three games to get it right let alone three years. Apparently we are going down this year.

Yes - originally I think he was given a contact until the end of the season, but was then rewarded(depending on your view point) with 3 year contract. Sooner or later you have to stick by a manager, and whilst Mills position became untenable and although our football is not as freeflowing as I would personally wish to see, I can at least see what Keates is trying to achieve and that he appears to be putting the effort in on the training pitch and at least doing some scouting, which our previous manager said when addressing fans - he would rather let the opposition worry about us than think to much about them... great in theory not so great in practice.

Same thing as I said on League 2 forum about this, bookies odds in the lower leagues mean sod all. Before we appointed Bignot we had Adkins at 1/3 and Cowley at 2/5.
If Askey is at evens it just means a few people have stuck a few quid on him, nothing to worry about (yet).

I think our manager is hanging on by the skin of his teeth and will surely be sacked very soon
