But that's kind of the thing isn't it, with the TV money it will become a common price tag. For Premier League players. Foreign clubs aren't going to be able to turn down large sums like other Prem sides can.

Deeney is slightly less of a risk than someone from a foreign league, also those foreign clubs aren't silly if they know you've got wads of cash they'll try and rinse you for it.

EDIT: To be honest I don't really disagree with you, I just thought you were being dimissive of Deeney and I thought he be an improvement to your first 11 and therefore wasn't worth getting too worked up over. If you can find better value elsewhere then you should obviously do that. Who that would be I don't know.

It's that type of thinking that was probably one of the reasons I was one of the more positive Arsenal fans when we were linked with Vardy.

Well apparently they want £32mill now because they have to pay Walsall on any deal. So that should be that over with.

Also in silly money territory is Mane who Saints want £40mill for.

And there's something weird going on with Chelsea an fullbacks in the rumour mill. £12mill for Azpilicueta? With Bilbao interested. And something about a swap of Matic for Darmian. So that's probably the best fullback in the league for a pissant sum, and then one of the best defensive mids in the league who cost over £20mill to be swapped or a player who cost half that who has flopped for Utd.

Rumours of Jovetic to Arsenal as well. Just under £12mill.

Unless Wenger thinks Jovetic is a central striker I can't see much point in signing him. I know he had his injuries at Man City, but even taking that into consideration I don't think he looked that good.

Still £12m has become worth a punt money I guess.

Yep, was reported on Twitter last night. 11 million and 130 grand a week apparently.

Dzeko would be a brilliant signing for Sunderland, Defoe and Dzeko would be some partnership.

Most Arsenal fans had convinced themselves they wanted him.

Eh, come to terms with it perhaps, but the initial reaction to the news was pretty negative for a number of reasons which still stand.

Quite a few Arsenal fans are upset. Not neccesarily because they really wanted him, more the kind of signal it gives off when a Leicester player (or probably just more a player of his stature) turns you down. It's also probably down to the fact that the time spent going after him may have meant taking their eyes off other potential targets.

For me though I can't for the life of me understand how Arsenal have not put in some sort of bid for Aubameyang. At the start of the window I wouldn't have seen the point as he's stated he's happy at Dortmund and he ultimately wants to go to Real Madrid. I didn't think he'd contemplate leaving really, but now City have apparently offered £60mill for him and it's ongoing, then surely that is the kind of statement signing Arsene should be trying to make. Not only because he's a top striker, but also because of the chance to take someone ahead of what will be title rivals.

I do get the feeling Giroud and Sanchez might end up being the strikers next season as other players you're linked with are attacking mids, like Boufal most recently.

Equally, like Mustard, there are other fans that are relieved. Though I don't know why. He's a player Arsene likes, he's proven he can score goals in the league and he costs (relatively) fuck all. Signing him wouldn't mean you couldn't go after another striker this summer. You could have him then go after someone bigger and if you land them, you've got good cover, if you do another Benzema 'will he won't he' situation, then you don't finish the summer empty handed.

Great news for Leicester, they definitely still need to invest in another quality striker this summer though as next season their squad will need added depth and quality to cope with the Champions League.

I want Lapadula! Though he'd probably be more a Vardy backup. Slimani, Musa, Immobile have all gone dead. Deeney will too now.

I think at the price Deeney is being touted at you'd be best avoiding that, yes he's a good player but to be leading the line for a team in the Champions League next season and aiming for a top 4 finish? Not for me, better value abroad.

And now Arsenal are after Jovetic instead of going for someone like Aubameyang...

Sorry I'm on this board but I'm so pleased Vardy looks like he's staying at Leicester, he belongs there and obviously loves the club.
As a massively jealous ex local rival club supporter it does grate they are doing so well, but I honestly hope they put up a defiant defence of their title and it warms the heart that their players haven't so far left to join bigger clubs.

It's in my DNA to wish Leicester to do badly but I hope they really push again and make all the bigger clubs really earn the title if it isn't them again

I think we just want to keep Deeney as:

1. He is our main goal scorer
2. The captain and most respected player at the club.
3. English (Home grown)
4. Probably wouldn't replace him even with 25-30 million to spend (we never spend big well!)
5. As far as I aware made no desire about wanting to leave.

However he might well do so which is fair enough - just hope we don't actually leave it too late that we cannot try to get a replacement.

I'd be about 60% less confident of staying up if he did go though.

Ighalo is your main scorer now though innit?
I think 2 and 3 are the biggest reasons we're in for him. We've pestered you about him for a few seasons now and he's never pushed for a move even when we were in different divisions. He seems to be pretty happy to go with whatever Watford decide.

Well he was for the 1st half of the season but certainly fell badly out of form in the 2nd (like most of the team) but Deeney kept going at least.

It would all depend on how we'd replace Deeney as a player and person.

There wouldn't be a lot of leaders left and we know what he brings to us.

Turkish media reports that Raul Meireles' agent is going round telling everyone that terms are agreed for a move to AFC Bournemouth (currently at Fenerbahce).

Of all the clubs his agent could tout about moving too, Bournemouth seems too random to be made up? If you wanted to name drop a PL club to engineer some interest, would Bournemouth be your first thought  So we assume there's something in it. These reports have since been picked up by the usual rumour peddlers over here.

Meanwhile French media report that Jordan Veretout from Aston Villa, whom Villa pipped us to signing last summer, is another we're currently said to be in talks with. Celta Vigo and Lille also interested though.

We're also selling TK Rantie to a Danish club I've never heard of - SonderjyskE

We're also hoping that Saints sell Wanyama to Spurs to help push Ryan Mason to us.

Simple. Arsenal can't attract the likes of Aubameyang.

If he's interested in City then that's neither true nor actually all that relevant. It's a statement of intent.

Then they might as well go for Messi and Ronaldo. That'll show the world their intent!

I don't see any other premier league side trying to sign them.
Don't be upset because Liverpool aren't shopping in the same stores as Arsenal anymore.
