The X Files - I'm going back through this from the start. I never made it further than the fifth series but I'm aiming to complete it this time around. The early episodes are just as great as I remember.

Excellent choice, as much as the last couple of seasons can't match up the first few, it's still a great series, one of my all time favourites. In the run up to the new season 10 last year, there was a fan campaign to rewatch the whole series an episode a day in the 201 days leading up to the new episodes! I followed that and really enjoyed it, some of the later episodes are actually better second time around because first time you're still bitching about how different they are!

Elsewhere just finished the Handmaid's Tale. Incredibly tough to watch at times but easily one of the best seasons of TV I've ever seen.

My current boxset binge is Six Feet Under, which is brilliant. Started it a few years ago but then stupid Sky removed it from their boxsets so I've been stuck until I bought it the other week. Midway through season 1 and loving it. One for anybody who likes their comedy pitch black dark.

Yeah I loved the X-Files growing up, but stopped watching after season 3 iirc. Was going to get back into it but watched the odd episode as well and it didn't feel the same and got more outlandish.

Yeah, so I've seen. Two main leads are apparently superb with what they're given, but everything else sounds like a total let down.

I saw that of the 38 Stephen King books that have been translated into movies, only 9 of them have ever actually received a "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It seems that his stuff just generally doesn't translate to film very well apart from in a few cases. It's a massive pity that his biggest work, after such a long wait, hasn't done very well... probably kills off any chance of a sequel and them doing the full series.

Sounds like the best we can hope for is a reboot 10/20 years down the line and hope that they get it right next time...

Sony just can't do anything right at the moment. It's a good job Disney made their Spider-Man movie for them.

They tried to condense a seven book series into a 90 minute film so I'm not surprised it's rubbish. They also ignored most of the source material it seems so they really fucked it up. :(

Interesting stat, be interested to know what they are. Assume Stand By Me and Shawshank are a given? Carrie, the Shining, Misery other good ones.

I thought it was a sequel to the book series?

Getting into spoiler territory for the books here, (and really, if you've never read the books, avoid reading ahead and read the damn things!) but:

Technically it is. At the end of TDT Roland got sent back to the start and learned that he's been simply going around and around countless times... but the book ends basically saying that this time, he's got the horn of eld... and apparently, that's enough to change things, stop the cycle and finish it for good and stop him simply getting to the end and it sending him back to the start again. It kind of uses that to be able to tell the same story while also changing it.

Or at least it should have... by the sounds of things, they just went and did what the fuck they wanted.

Interesting stat, be interested to know what they are. Assume Stand By Me and Shawshank are a given? Carrie, the Shining, Misery other good ones.

To correct myself, it wasn't fresh on RT, it was "good" (so a score of 70 or more) on Metacritic. They are, The Green Mile, Dolores Claiborne, 1408, The Dead Zone, Cats Eye, Stand By Me, Misery, Shawshank and the original Carrie.

So yeah... never heard of some of those. And no Shining!

Cats Eye the only one I've never seen of those. I think that's a fair list, I forgot the Green Mile but the others there are pretty fairly valued, I.e. not brilliant films but enjoyable and worth a watch. Dolores Claiborne and Dead Zone especially if you've not seen them.

Westworld- Which is the most overrated thing I have ever seen. I'm on Episode 8 and I'm looking forward to it's conclusion so I can start on The Leftovers

Psychoville. Bonkers, hilarious and quite scary with the always superb Pemberton and Shearesmith.

Just finished S3 of the Leftovers. Found it one of the most confusing, hardest to follow shows I've watched.

I like them since "The League of Gentlemen" (together with Mark Gatiss).
Dawn French is really freaky here in Psychoville.

Aye she was. I like Mark Gatiss too, though I couldn't get into The League of Gentlemen (they are doing a few new specials you may be interested to hear Dirk). Been a big follower of Shearsmith since A Field In England, and his fantastic cameo in Car Share; though he is a terrific character actor who is very versatile. Got 3 episodes to go with it. :)

The finale of Twin Peaks is on tonight, episode 16 was the perfect episode to do leading into it. I've loved this season, really cemented the show as one of my favourites

PS what happened to Captain Scumbag? No longer a poster?

Shooter Series 2.
The first series was superb this one is nowhere as good but still worth watching as it flashes back and fro from both series.

Just started watching The Leftovers. The real mystery is who officer blueballs will bang first, the woman who lost her husband and kids or his daughters best mate. I'll stay tuned.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Latest season of BoJack is looking excellent. Episode 2, 'The Old Sugarman Place' is almost as good as 'Fish out of Water'.

We watched three episodes of Man in the high castle but didn't think much of it. Is it worth sticking with?

Currently on season two of The Shield too which is pretty decent.

Season 3 of Rick and Morty has been immense. One of the most ambitious shows I've ever watched. Every episode has been tight as fuck, amazing how much epicness they manage to fit inside 22 minutes.

And I watched the pilot of hbo's new David Simon show "The Deuce" last night. About the rise of the porn industry in 70's new york. Every show he's been involved with that I've seen (The Wire, Treme, Show Me a Hero) has had a profound effect and it looks like he's onto another winner here.
