To be honest shoddy we may aswell just rip the p*ss as I have a feeling like yourself its linked to an extremely shady character (not naming on here) and if true that will signal us in deep crap in a year or two.

If a genuine mega-rich person is interested it shouldn't take long, they'd have a mass of expensive accounts teams and lawyers and agents and sort it within days.

Yeah the whole 'meeting with his associate' business sounded very much like that character.

Not to mention they would have already done due diligence etc.

I have to say I've heard Richard Branson's name touted more times than I would be comfortable about! Does he even like football?

He certainly has an interest. The key question - Who is he following on Twitter?

Well one of our new board members is finally here... New Commercial and Sales director 'Phil King'.

In unrelated news... since his release Sean O'Hanlon hasn't been sighted in Carlisle but is reported to still be paying rent on his caravan... wherever could he be?

Been no takeover related news in about a week now.

I think it's safe to assume that the takeover, and by extension, the football club, is dead in the water now.

The 'let's just rely on Jenkins to keep bailing the club out of financial trouble' brigade have won.

be a very interesting first game of season if Nixon and Jenkins are in charge and we lost.

But I think alas we were unable to carry on talks with Jepp Slatter as he's from all account gone some important meetings and was unable to transfer the funding out of his account into ours quick enough.

I know several Notts who worry this could be like Munto was for us, hopefully it resolves itself. When we played in League One the last time, my son a cracking day out at your ground and the cricket club were also very friendly.

Looking forward to going back this year!

PS, off subject but has Noble always had an issue with arguing with officials?

ah so now we maybe get the real reason behind the mystery investor.

Our young talent starting to be signed up for cash...........who gets the feeling when Lapping finally gets the job that cash has suddenly vanished.

of course as per the norm 'undisclosed fees' to tell nobody nothing as per usual for our club.

Well the board now say themselves that it is a billionaire... among some other gumf they spouted today. Things that caught my eye being that the trust will be expected to dilute their share, which means another vote as they are adamant the previous vote was only to dilute their share for Lapping, not for just anyone. Also that they reckon they will reopen the door for Lapping should the billionaire fall through, and a warning it could take a while.

The News & Star made a valid point about it taking a while. The value of CUFC is a few million, we're financially solvent and own our own ground, to a billionaire this is chump-change... he probably owns yachts more expensive than the whole football club. Why would a real billionaire need to think so long and hard about purchasing? I'm sure Roman Abramovich didn't spend so long deciding whether or not to buy Chelsea, and they're far more valuable than Carlisle.

Anybody from outside who comes to 'invest' in a club is just to make money and not interesting in doing the best for the club.

As you say, the club owns it's own ground so that is what he is after. He will split club from ground, keep the ground and sell the club which when he is finished will be in debt.

If he/she is a billionaire then this is a lot of effort to go through just to secure a scrappy stadium...

There is no proof he is a billionaire, these spivs just see a profit and leave other folk out of pocket and genuine fans crying in their beer.

The alternative thesis is that he doesn't even exist, and it's all the result of someone who stood to lose out as a result of Lapping's plan to put the club on a solid financial footing.

I really didn't know you were in a state like that. I genuinely feel for you. I hope it gets sorted out.

Billy Paynter? Is he any good?

He's a big lump of shit who did pretty much fuck all for us last season. Glad to be rid of him and I can't see him doing well for you, surprising that you would sign him as well considering how bad he was for us and the wage he's probably getting.

Yeah I did notice our situation got a mention on the bunker... but the posters there were under the impression Lapping had sacked us off as opposed to us sacking Lapping off (or rather the board sacking Lapping off against the wishes of nearly everyone else connected to the football club)

I don't do much on the Bunker but I do read Into The Blue which has a minimum of nutters and seems to have more friendly people. Poolie fans are generally spot on to mix with. Again I hope it all comes together. Good luck.

Yeah but I got a bollocking last night didn't I?

If that's the way certain people want the fans and club seen, well, fair do's. I think they're fucking idiots, and they've proved it over and over. I'm proud of my team.

I wonder how this is going to play out.

I mean, at some point they're going to have to make a statement to the effect of 'the billionaire buy-out isn't happening' so the only question is when and what will they say?

I doubt they're going to admit it was all fabrication either, if not them fabricating it themselves then them being sucked in by someone else's bullshit, and Nixon always likes to put a positive spin on things, as though somehow the events of the last few months have been great for the club. Nixon's the guy on the Titanic still filling out his US immigration form.

My guess is they'll blame someone else (probably Lapping) for scuppering it and then claim there are still many more viable options and this one just wasn't in the best interests of the club.

Well isn't this just the most laughable thing ever?

http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/carlis...hing-in-carlisle-utd-investor-talks-1.1222257

It’s looking like an attractive investment. Having said all that, there’s nothing in writing. All our financial information is with him, they’re able to ask questions about it in some detail, they’re doing their form of due diligence, as are we. These things take time.
...
Even if takes two months, six months or 12 months it’s got to be right for Carlisle when we pass the ball over.

A year? Really? What kind of billionaire who wants to own a football club needs a year to decide whether a debt-free small club who own their own ground are the right club to spend a few million on? How long did it take Roman Abramovich to make his mind up over buying Chelsea?

If they want to own a small League club then it's a pretty simple decision, only things like there being a lot of debt, or a requirement to pay rent on a ground they don't own are likely to complicate things. More likely if this person is still mulling things over, they're weighing up how they can profit from the club. How much they'll get for selling the ground, and what the planning situation is on building a new one. They don't want to own a football club at all, they just sense an opportunity to profit, at our expense most likely, we'll end up like Oxford, stuck in a ground our owner built for us, but then kept and charged the club rent on when the club themselves were offloaded.

Also, Nixon is keen to press the point that there's no rush as the club isn't in any immediate danger. I feel this is missing the point somewhat. We certainly don't seem to be in any immediate danger of going bust, I suppose we at least have the board (well mostly Jenkins probably) to thank for that. They've been pretty frugal over the last few years and we never spend more than we know we can make.

However, we are shrinking as a football club. Attendances are down, we're operating with less money than we used to have, we've gone from being a League One club with ambitions of promotion to being a League Two club just hoping to remain in the Football League. Reversing the slide is urgent, another season fighting relegation will see another dip in revenue we will struggle to come back from, if we actually get relegated it could be a disaster since we're not really able to spend above our means to get back up, go down to the Vanarama and we may have to accept it will take a long spell down there and a rebuild to get back out.

Turning this around and getting back to a position where we can look up will be difficult and requires an injection of new ideas, and this is where Andrew Lapping was supposed to come in. The optimism of the start of the summer has now disappeared, this is going to be a long hard season if we're to spend the next 12 months courting some mystery investor.
