Sounds like he could be Kaikai plus goals. A Corr Carr combination up front or, more likely, with him out wide looks fine as an option to explore for me - with Corr and Gaffney interchangeable. Richard rarely gives his strikers 90 minutes, so unless Slew's attitude and application has impressed Richard more recently (highly unlikely), then I can see room for another front man to come in.

I guess we'll begin to see if Slew and Chiedozie are likely to feature in the first team squad or be loan prospects by the time we get a few pre-season games under our belts.

Nice to see the rumours thread on our message board dying a death but the signings keep rolling in.

I'd be slightly concerned if Carr was a first choice option to be honest. I think Gaffney has a lot more potential, and a friend of mine was told by Morrissey that Gaffney was one of the best players he had seen in the Irish League. Plus we've still got Rimpson, Donaldo and Bez who could play off a striker if Money is that way inclined.

I agree, hence "as an option to explore." Apart from keeper, I'm happy with what we have now for a first choice team plus subs. If/when transfer listed Taylor, Slew and Simpson move on, that would free 3 decent wages. I didn't finish last season dreaming of a team as good as this on paper:
  • Dunn
  • Omozusi, Roberts, Legge, Dunk
  • Keane, Morrisey
  • Donaldson, Berry
  • Corr, Simpson
Subs: Norris, Coulson, Taylor, Hughes, Gaffney, Chiedozie/Carr/Slew

Although we are thin on numbers and I can still see 2 or 3 of the 4 listed to move on or go out on loan, that would be a fair match day squad. I expect Richard will actually be starting Hughes (especially away) and Simpson will have to put up with limited starts if he doesn't move on.

Didn't Corr say he had been told by Money that you would be playing an old school 4-4-2 with two out and out wingers this season? Donaldson could be described as a winger at a push but you'll surely be in the market for someone to play down the left hand side at least?

For me there's just to many if buts and maybes up front for us, slew, we haven't really seen the best of him, gaffney I've never seen and chidozie didn't get a look in, add that to this unpredictable Carr fella then that just leaves corr who we know is decent, I just can't see us threatening the top 3 with that strike force.

Our midfield and defence is coming along nicely though.

Seems Money is doing what he did at Walsall almost a decade ago, solid defence and nicking narrow wins.

Won them the league that year though, all you need in League Two is a solid backline and a 15-20 goal striker and you're pissing it.

He did, apparently, but I'll believe that when I see it - as a starting option. A version of 4-3-3/4-5-1 seems more likely. If it were a serious intent then his "wingers" would be the likes of Hughes :), Donaldson, Dunk, Carr and A.N. Other. I'd rather not have Taylor and Dunk as our pair on the left (so A.N. Other required) but I'd be happy with Donaldson (or in more negative mode, Hughes, at the risk of abuse from fellow U's) in front of Omozusi.

Of the next 3 to come in, I'd hope for a striker, left winger and keeper - all with L2 experience or long term loans of the quality of Sully Kaikai, Dominic Ball and Steer/Maxwell. Dare I say it, Adam Smith would be an acceptable if not ideal way forward on the keeper front.

Richard Money is still VERY active according to the BBC Cambs radio interview this morning. I know we have offered terms to Josh Simpson but that's it. We missed out on Whalley from Luton so I would suspect we are in for a winger down the left.

Corr will hopefully get us 15-20 goals this season. I would also expect 10-15 goals between Donaldson and Berry. If we can add one more striker and keep plenty of clean sheets, which we should looking on paper then I think we will be pushing for the play-offs.

That was his approach in the Conference (didn't always need/have the prolific striker) and when we needed a result last year. It was very successful when we had Kwesi and effective when we needed points at Southend, Shrewsbury and Northampton. Without Kwesi we struggled at home when he was distracted and tried to deliver on an "Are you not entertained?" dream.

Despite the sales pitch to Barry Corr, a leopard doesn't change his spots, especially at our time of life.

If I let reality creep in, you're right. If Gaffney doesn't deliver, we'll be a one trick pony up top (but our midfield have goals in them). Carr and Chiedozie look a bit light weight for L2 - but all 3 have the speed and ability to get goals in L2 if our new coaching team can work their magic. June/July is the season for positive speculation. Reality can kick in come August.

Whalley is very right footed and played almost exclusively from the right for us so that suggests you are in the market for traditional wingers on both sides (you should be glad you missed out on him incidentally!).

We've signed Gill Swerts. Belgian, leader, legend.

We now have four really good central midfielders (assuming Swerts' pedigree translates to League Two) for likely three positions, which is excellent. Nicky Wroe is still hanging about the place too. Unless Swerts is a right back, we're not really sure.

If Curle manages to get rid of our shittest, highest earning player - and to a team in the same league as us as well - then he is certifiably a genius. We could probably sign 2 good players using his wage, in fact we could probably sign Ibehre who is better than Paynter and still get another player.

Fairly happy with this signing, should be a decent asset in League 2.

Not sure about the tram line he's got in his eyebrow but he's still a good signing for us, happy with this one.

Happy with Ibehre, always liked him as a League 1 player so I'd expect him to be decent at this level. A bit of physicality and power is exactly what we need to compliment our other forwards.

He'll be very useful in showing Rigg what he needs to be doing as well, you can almost see Rigg becoming a bit like Ibehre but with more goals in him. People are saying he can help Wyke out but I'd say they're completely different players with Wyke playing more as a poacher whereas Ibehre/Rigg do more of the donkey work. Nice to see another 1 year deal with an option to extend as well, I could get used to these instead of 2 year deals which tend to screw us over half the time.

Holy shit Paynter has apparently agreed terms with Hartlepool! This goes some way to proving my theory that Ronnie Moore is mentally ill, Paynter won't have accepted a massive wage cut and he was on £2k a week here so if he goes you'll be paying him £1k+ a week which is completely ridiculous given the season he's just had.

Jabo will still get you 8-10 goals a season, especially in League Two. Really strong and powerful, tirelessly runs himself into the ground and gets through the work of two players. The only problem for us was he often found himself chasing balls out onto the wing meaning there was nobody left in the box, but he is a good signing.

I like it when a club stands up to a petulant player who's demanding a move and getting all shirty if his demands aren't met. Players have too much power so kudos to the chairman if he wants to send out a message the Club is bigger every once in a while.

Jabo is a great league 2 signing. Probably the best hold up player in the league, he was one of the best in league 1. Tireless, strong as an ox, never gives up, great characteristics for a footballer. He isn't great at finishing and he will miss a few sitters, but he's a 10 goal a season, tireless, strong back to goal forward. Play someone quick with an eye for a goal off him and you have a good little remedy there.

Bringing the best out of Paynter means cutting off his pie supply and maybe getting him to score 5 goals.
